Meanwhile, in the US Senate, a Democrat gets to take his seat, courtesy of the Tea Party.

This needed to be approved just for the headline. Nice one, subby!

Lugar was an honorable politician, its a damn shame the tea tards cost him his job.

Lamar Alexander doesn't play well with the nut jobs either. I wonder how long before they target him.
Mr Alexander willingly stepped down as Confrence Chair of the Republican Party last year... Wonder what happened there?

Not a repeat from 1914 or 1942 or 1898?

And the most astounding unforced error in the history of Indiana political debates.

Nice! I used to work there, before he made it cool.

If you throw an umlaut over the "u", add an "n" and switch the "a" to an "e," then you come up with the German word for BIG STINKING LIAR.

Obviously Murdock sticking his head that far up his ass was important, but this was a really close race before that debate. I think people believe he was a lock to win before this happened when it was damn close.

Lugar is irreplaceable, and I say that as a Democrat. It's rare to have such a well educated and reasonable voice on foreign policy these days. It used to be common to have a couple of Senators of his stature but he's the last of a dying bread. If Kerry takes the SoS gig there won't really be any left in the Senate.

That said Joe Donnelly is a good man, he may not have Lugar's knowledge or gravitas, but give him a chance.

I go to YouTube and search for "Lex Luger" and get a bunch of results of some black guy smoking weed?

Link
I realize 1993-95 was a pretty poor time for WWF quality-wise, but why didn't Luger win the WWF title at Summerslam 1993? He was as over as he was going to get. He was the top promoted babyface, they had done the big Lex Express push all summer. He wasn't a no-name rookie. He had had a successful run in NWA/WCW before where he was a headliner and a Horsemen. He was never the greatest wrestler, but he was better than Yokozuna. Why not put the belt on Luger at Summerslam, have him turn heel at Royal Rumble time. Bret Hart wins the Rumble, beats Luger for the belt at WrestleMania X. Makes sense to me at least. Of course, if that happened, we would have not had the classic Bret vs Owen at WMX.

Subby, you got my hopes up that Lugar was nominated to be ambassador to Germany or some diplomatic post dealing with the EU. I know a think tank job will still put him in those same circles give him to lose some influence, but one of the few Republican politicians who was genuinely bipartisan is out of the public sector makes me sad.

Meanwhile Chuck Hagel is currently being hammered by the Washington Post who claim he is more liberal than Obama and is unqualified for Secretary of Defense for referring to AIPAC, J Street, etc. as the Jewish lobby and suggesting they have a lot of influence in Washington. Oh, and he things the Defense budget has wasteful spending and believes global warming exists.

He *should* be exiled to Germany for killing Miss Elizabeth IRL.
