I wish that I cannot believe the comments in the linked article; Unfortunately, predictably - most of them are clamoring for the death penalty, release of the minor's name, the country going to shiat/3rd world status and/or fussiness about the use of the word "semi-auto".

It's as if the majority of the readers reason by pathos alone.

TFA says the same. The "witness" (the kid who survived) had the gun pointed at him the whole time until the victim stepped in front of him.

FTFA: "The accused shooter then retrieved a semi-automatic shotgun,..."

While I know such a thing exists, I bet it was just a regular pump shotgun or even a single shot. The AP is going to throw that phrase out in every story they report, everytime a gun is used.

2012-12-20 12:38:20 PM
"and playfully wrestled at the boy's home in South Dakota"

When I read this phrase yesterday, I postulated that the real motive was about one boy trying to put his P in another boy's A. That seems far more likely to result in a shotgunnin'

No, it is most likely just a typical hunding shotgun. Just means you don't have to pump it.

*facepalm*... semi-auto shotguns are very very common. Your assumption is dripping with ignorance, bias, and conjecture. Here's a pretty accurate list of the top 10 semi-auto shotguns.

I'm not usually one to advocate for stricter gun laws, but I think there needs to be something on the books for parents who leave firearms where kids/minors can have easy access to them.

I posted the following in the thread about the asshat who shot a guy in FL over pizza.

----

Look... There are a lot of gun owners. Sure there's this guy. And the guy who gave his six year old a gun to bring to school for protection. Hospital in Alabama. Guy who shot the cops in... Was in Kansas? doesnt matter. And yes that's all I think of since last Fridays massacre but really... C'mon friends... Why even THINk about new restrictions, laws or bans. It so very mean to the vast majority of law abiding citizens. Gun violence hardly ever happens at all.

----

And now I can add "idiot in SD who killed a 16-year old KID over paintball.

Oh look. More people being kept safe by responsible gun owners.

Yeah, those 20-year-old "minors".

How about we just change the "no true Scotsman" fallacy to the "no responsible gun owner" fallacy.

Even if the "kid" was 30, it wouldn't matter, it's still your responsibility to keep your guns out of the hands of other people. The kicker is that it's not that hard and they can still be readily accessible, even loaded...
I have 2 full size safes and three small quick access safes. It's a no brainer. But we digress. Is the issue at hand that fact that psycho kid got a gun, or that he shot his "friend"?
Yes...they're connected at the hip, but really..

By Christmas, guns won't even need to be involved. Watch, someone will be weilding a semi-automatic baseball bat.

They do, but don't let that stop them in this case. What has been reported thus far would cause them to go this route.

- suspect was "playfully wrestling" with another teen (the witness based on the reporting)
- after the "playful wrestling" ended, the suspect left the room and returned with a shotgun
- suspect pointed the shotgun at the witness
- suspect pulled the trigger, disengaged safety, or checked the breech for (or at least they allude to that in the article)
- suspect then took a shotgun shell out and loaded the firearm
- suspect pointed the shotgun at the witness
- suspect again pulled the trigger, disengaged safety, or most likely, loaded the shell into the breech (again, alluded to in the article)
- suspect pulled the trigger

I don't care what kind of firearm was used, I'd be calling for the suspect's head too (as based on reported facts). Unless the reporter or the witness was flat out lying, this one is pretty damn complelling.

/the logical side of me is waiting for more info, but I can understand the emotion from most people in this situation

Hmm. Well, me put it this way; when FOX News makes the same arguments you are, they often scapegoat Rogers as "feminizing" generations of American youth. I assumed you have a similar vision in mind.

But basically I'm questioning your entire premise. Self-esteem or over-coddling isn't going to make someone kill their friend. Whatever this kid's problem was, it wasn't that his dad excessively praised him.
