As someone who plays classical guitar everyday, that thing keeps me away from people and bad influences like anything.  I'll live to be a lot older from playing, but my hands and fingers will probably be completely useless by then

You can always switch over to slide guitar when the carpal tunnel sets in. Or you could proactively adopt a regimen of stretching exercises and keep playing until you are so old you don't recognize your instrument.
