(LA Times)   Kobe Bryant says if he didn't play with Shaq, he would already have 40,000 career points. It actually could have been 100,000 if he didn't have all those other pesky teammates getting in the way   (articles.latimes.com) divider line 41

Yes, indeed.  My point wasn't that he didn't get help... it was just that hell yeah, when the game is close, Jordan did and should have the ball in his hands, and should be taking the shots.

Kobe has a career assist average of 4.7 a game, and has never averaged less than 4.5 in a season since '99-00. For comparison, Durant is having by far his best assist numbers so far this year, at 4.2 a game.

It's true that Kobe will go Black Hole in individual games/down the stretch in games, but there aren't a lot of shooting guards in the league that get more assists than Kobe.

And the only reason he got those other two is because the Celtics had critical injuries those two years. If all the Celtics were on the floor for the playoffs, it would have been a threepeat.

Kobe didn't win anything without Shaq. He won the two because of Pau. Or, did Laker fans all of the sudden forgot how the Lakers was so bad that Kobe was asking for a trade before Pau came and turned everything around,

If I had to venture a guess, the point (which even a certain Lakers fan named Romero knows) is that you can score 40,000 points all you want, you won't get anywhere if you're not part of a team.

Not that I think he's right; how many points did he score because Shaq was getting all the attention?  How many becaue of Gasol? He does realize how all this basketball mumbo jumbo works, doesn't he?

No one wins championships by themselves. I never insinuated that. I refuted beerrun's comment that Kobe would have no rings without Shaq. That's it.

I believe his point is that the Lakers won championships in spite of Kobe's ball hogging because they had Shaq.
Which is rather ridiculous. I wanted clarification.

Can't really compare the two. With Derek Fisher and the triangle, Kobe did act like a point guard a lot, and now the offense always runs through him, so he naturally going to get assists. Despite Durant being the best player on his team, the offense has mostly run through the guards for the majority of his career.

Jordan routinely passed the ball when the game was close. It's a myth that Jordan took all the late shots. He didn't. He took all the best shots and passed to his teammates when they had better ones. One of the reasons Jordan is better than Kobe is he made better decisions, especially late in tight games. This is also one of the reasons LeBron is better than Kobe.

That finals drove my crazy. Kobe single-handedly delivered the championship to the Pistons.

Game 1 (Pistons 87, Lakers 75) : Shaq 13/16, 34 pts. Kobe 10/27, 25 pts.
Game 2 (Lakers 99, Pistons 91) : Shaq 10/20, 29 pts. Kobe 14/27, 33 pts.
Game 3 (Pistons 88, Lakers 68) : Shaq 7/14, 14 pts. Kobe 4/13, 11 pts.
Game 4 (Pistons 88, Lakers 80) : Shaq 16/21, 36 pts. Kobe 8/25, 20 pts.
Game 5 (Pistons 100, Lakers 87) : Shaq 7/13, 20 pts. Kobe 7/21, 24 pts.

It looked to me like Kobe just HAD to prove that the Pistons couldn't guard him, so he threw up junk against 3 defenders the entire series. This despite having Shaq, Karl Malone, and Gary Payton on the floor with him. Also despite the fact that Shaq shot 50% or better the whole series and Kobe shot like GARBAGE. The Pistons quickly figured out he was going to hog the ball the whole time, shut Kobe down, and nearly swept the series. 4/13 in game 3?! Pass the farking ball!

Uhm, let's take tonight's game as an example. Westbrook took 28 shots and turned the ball over 8 times. That's 36 possessions that Durant didn't get a chance at an assist, consider Westbrick missed them all.

Conclusion?: Pass the ball, RUSSELL

It's well known that Kobe took all the late game shots. Nobody on the Lakers has attempted big shots in big games late in the game but Kobe. Not Robert Horry, not Fisher, not Fox... nobody.

Is Kobe a passer? No, he's a shooting guard and arguably one of the best players in NBA history.
