"Hey EOD, there may be a bomb in that building but we're not sure. Hell we don't even know if there is anyone in there. How about your three man team clear the whole thing? Cool?"

They didn't seem to have a problem with it when Roots showed white slave traders herding black folks like cattle to capture them, rather than just bartering for them from the other black folks who did capture them.

Hey, the government thought that it's easy to make a binary bomb, just like in Die Hard, hence, why you can only have small amounts of liquid in your carry on.

They also wanted to know why our subs don't have worm drives, like the sub in Hunt For Red October.

Second Try: ernst_k: Pumpernickel bread: If torture doesn't work then why would virtually every government for the past 5000 years use it?

If buying the guy ice cream and whispering sweet nothings in his ear doesnt get him to tell you what you want to know, you've gotta try something else.

Does this argument mean that praying to a sky-father also must work? Because - you know - people have been doing it for a such a long time?

Newsflash: Yes, it works.

So does praying to Joe Pesci. Because he's the kind of guy that can get things done.

FeatheredSun: I'm kinda with the senators here. Hollywood is far too abusive of historical fact. It's a bit insulting actually.

Hollywood makes movies in order to make money. They do not make movies to educate. If you're going to see a feature film to learn history, you're doing it wrong.

the filmmakers and your production studio are perpetuating the myth that torture is effective

That's not a good thing.  "24" did that plenty.

tenpoundsofcheese: just because it doesn't fit the desired narrative from the government, doesn't mean it isn't historically accurate.

remember, this movie got the inside info from the 0bama administration.

Well, 24 isn't on anymore, so "conservatives" need more torture porn to make them feel good about violating human rights.

And if you can get them to cough up some dough for it, all the better.
