For the folks worried about The Stick of Truth: Chapter 11 is not the "total liquidation" bankruptcy; it is the "restructuring" bankruptcy.  Despite that they are selling off their assets, entering into a Chapter 11 will allow them to continue work on existing projects and pay creditors for those projects accordingly.  However the bankruptcy protections relieve them of other debt payments such as lines of credit, etc.

They'll still be gone at the end of it...I anticipate after their final release they will probably liquidate and dissolve the company, but in the interim period there's no reason to believe they are going to immediately cancel or delay current works.

Probably the only reason why a video game company still making money logically would go under. Paying upkeep for programmers and some officer space isn't that expensive.

I'm sure though that if software developers belonged to a union they would be blamed for all of this.

Saints Row 2 beat the everloving crap out of Guerilla.  If only because the main character in SR2 was interesting, unlike grizzled miner-turned-space-hero protagonist in Guerilla.

Then again, same studio so it's not that big a deal to disagree.

How about a semi-sandbox game as an Imperial Guard commissar. (Takes control of tank by executing driver for incompetence, leads charge)

Wayne 985: onlyadistraction: I had heard of the Saint's Row games, but never knew what they were until seeing this article. I watched a YouTube video of SR3 and all I could think was that it seemed like a lame copy/paste of GTA.

On that note, I loved GTA3, Vice City not so much, and thought San Andreas was the best console game I had ever played. I do not own a PS3 or a 360, so I have never played GTA4. There seems to be a lot of hate for it in this thread, but I am intrigued by GTA5 and am considering purchasing a new console solely for that game. (The only reason I bought a PS2 was for GTA3).

Has the GTA series really gotten that bad? I don't know about GTA4, since I said I've never played it, but if you couldn't remain alive for at least 30 minutes in San Andreas with a 6-star wanted level without grabbing a tank or plane, then you just sucked.

Wondering because unfortunately I made the transition from San Andreas to WoW... FML

I actually enjoyed GTA IV, but they did make it "realistic" to the point that some of the fun got sapped out. It's also notorious for a feature where other characters call you all the time to arrange dates or activities like bowling and pool. You get game bonuses for winning them over, but it takes constant upkeep and the annoyance typically isn't worth it.

The big upside is that the story is easily better than any other GTA game, although it is depressing and some people didn't care for that.

I had a blast with GTAIV, still do.  Probably the oldest game in my current library that still gets regular rotation.  The shift to the euphoria engine probably turned a lot of people off, which is kind of understandable, but I prefer it, even with all it's annoyances.  I'm not sure why, but I just really enjoy seeing how the bodies and physics in that engine react to shiat.  Careening down a sidewalk at 60 mph in a Patriot into a crowd of people with the slow-mo cinematic camera on was just...incredibly amusing. The multiplayer was also a big reason I enjoyed that game.  It was the first game I ever really played "online" outside of a month playing Battlefield 2 and Sniper Elite on PS2.  One of the funnest ways to play the GTA games is just sitting around with a group of friends and trying to pull crazy shiat, passing the controller when you inevitably died a hilarious death.  Being able to do it with that many people in Liberty City simultaneously in Free Mode was so much goddamn fun.  I've played the Saints Rows games, with the same friends I played GTAIV with, and it just doesn't grab me the same way.  I can definitely see the appeal, but it does nothing for me.  Maybe I'm just a Rockstar whore, but with the way they've been putting out damn good titles for the past 12 years, I'm pretty much okay with that.

Love it. Few games truly give you that feeling of being a predator. FC3 gets it. I could raid jungle camps until my thumbs fall off.

Clutch2013: Semi-related - how's Sleeping Dogs?

I rather enjoyed Sleeping Dogs. First time I've played one of these sandbox shoot/drive/kill games in which the melee combat was interesting, fun, and effective. The story is very straightforward and pretty predictable, no surprise moments, and the voice acting is solid.

GTA4 had potential, but they overdid it on the realism NO ROMAN, I DON'T WANT TO GO FARKING BOWLING! and the gameplay suffered as a result.

That.

Some things in games just need to be implied and leave it at that.

skinink: ...GTA4 wasn't as fun as the previous games in the series for me, and it seemed too easy to die or get caught with a six star wanted level.

THIS is also exactly true of Assassin's Creed 3... you f#ck off a single redcoat and 8 of them attack you, and you can outrun all of them but the redcoats you run into up ahead are already looking for you, as if the first bunch radioed ahead.

And also like GTA4, AC3 gets a lot of industry accolades for being "more realistic' than its predessors, ignoring the fact that it's simply not as much fun to play.

You gotta love FARK.

Someone clearly pulls some "executive pay" bullshiat out of their ass...and not only does someone not call him on his bullshiat, they pile on and defend Unions at the same time when THQ isn't unionized.

The ACTUAL reason THQ crapped the bed was bad bets on kid's franchises and the uDraw product that cost a ginormous amount to develop and was a serious flop.

Tis a shame.  I rather enjoyed Saints row 2 and 3.  They sucked at the WWE games though (or really all the sports games I tried with them).  Sad as this is, there are plenty of other games out there.  Currently playing far cry 3 which is exceptional btw.  I recommend it to anyone who likes sandbox games.

rosemary's baby daddy: I have to go against the SR3 group think here and say I didn't love it. Does every mission have to be an epic slug fest where you kill 483583745 cops and blow up half the city? What about some finesse and build up like the GTA series gives you? Granted GTA 4 was my least favorite of the 3d era but I did play through the whole thing. Saints Row I gave up after around 12 exhausting hours of "play"

I have a hunch you wouldn't enjoy Monty Python's Hamlet.

Also Red Dead Redemption is overrated. It seems like there's none of the silliness that was in GTA3 or Vice City. The series began to suck with San Andreas.
