I actually just started playing SR3 about a week ago, after a big sale on Steam.  I'm finding it more enjoyable than GTA IV.

2012-12-19 08:26:45 PM
I love that game. Screw you subby, go back to teabagging noobs on Halo. Or something.

2012-12-19 08:27:05 PM
I was under the impression that Saint's Row 3 was pretty well regarded.

2012-12-19 08:27:30 PM
Why would they apologize for a super hilariously fun game?

2012-12-19 08:28:57 PM
Who cares about Saints Row? What's going to happen to their rights to make 40K games?

The Saint's Row games have always been more fun than GTA. Are there people who don't know this?

I thought that was the case too. SR1 and 2 were pretty solid games too. They managed to out-GTA GTA on the balls out zany fun. Never played SR3, but that's more because I just haven't played many games lately.

Agreed, I loved Saints 3. Tough break on THQ. I thought they were doing alright.

Classic tale of over borrowing to payout executive bonuses, and leaving the company to collapse once the bill comes due.

South Park stick of truth is apparently delayed due to this.

YOU BASTARDS!

Red Faction: Guerilla was the best shooter of this generation.

2012-12-19 08:32:28 PM
Hm. I wonder what will happen to Volition?

2012-12-19 08:32:42 PM
Saints Row the Third was awesome. Not as good as 2, though.

Tickle Mittens: Red Faction: Guerilla was the best shooter of this generation.

Saints Row 2 beat the everloving crap out of Guerilla.  If only because the main character in SR2 was interesting, unlike grizzled miner-turned-space-hero protagonist in Guerilla.

Then again, same studio so it's not that big a deal to disagree.

I haven't played any game in the series, but I believe the complaint was that it wasn't as good as 2. Sort of like Uncharted 3 isn't as good as Uncharted 2, but it is still better than most.

Bioware should file for being idiots, sleeping with EA and disregarding the community.

ME3 and SWTOR fail will not be forgotten!!!!!

Adding to the Saints Row 3 love; one of the very few games I've had the patience to 100%

2012-12-19 08:37:22 PM
Got SR3 as part of the Humble Bundle last week. Haven't had a chance to play yet, but it sounds promising.

The bundle was a pretty good deal.

2012-12-19 08:38:22 PM
I too echo the SR2 > SR3. Better story, better characters, better customization. Not that SR3 was a bad game. I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. It just didn't quite match the impact of SR2.

SR2 was a shiatty PC port though. Thank god for the Gentleman of the Row addon and fixes. Even then it was still touch and go at times.

I hope Relic is able to keep making games using the license and finds another publisher, I really enjoyed Dawn of War II and beyond.

I haven't played any of the Saints Row series, but GTA4 wasn't as fun as the previous games in the series for me, and it seemed too easy to die or get caught with a six star wanted level. The Lost and the Damned wasn't much better, but I haven't had the chance to play the Ballad of Gay Tony yet.

Also Red Dead Redemption is overrated. It seems like there's none of the silliness that was in GTA3 or Vice City. The series began to suck with San Andreas.

Christ, Subby can eat a dick.*
SR3 was the most fun I've had since Just Cause 2!

You shut your whore mouth, subby. Saints Row The Third was AWESOME.

2012-12-19 08:44:16 PM
Step 1: The city sandbox genre is built on the premise that you are given all sorts of fun toys, and in order to overcome the obstacles in your path, you have to experiment with the procedurally-generated game world and the various toys that you're given.
Step 2: Make a game so utterly easy that there is no reason to experiment with any of these variables.
Step 3: Reward all of this progress with statistics, property, vehicles, and weapons, all of which are pointless because you can pretty much beat everything in the game by shooting everything in the head with the starter pistol.  In-effect, this doubles down on the things that derailed the Grand Theft Auto franchise during the Vice City and San Andreas years.
Step 4: Go play Crackdown or Grand Theft Auto III instead.

Yes, let's fight over it.

BOGT helped redeem it. Brought back some of the zanyness (not much, but a touch) and was more fun on a fun/time played basis than the main story or TLAD.

So I take it Saints Row III didn't sell very well?

I miss their N64 Wrestling Games. The fact that they did not carry that engine over to newer games shows they deserve to die.

What does this mean for Company of Heroes 2?!?!?!?!??!

Probably the only reason why a video game company still making money logically would go under. Paying upkeep for programmers and some officer space isn't that expensive.

I'm sure though that if software developers belonged to a union they would be blamed for all of this.

Because comparing it to GTA is like comparing Tex Avery cartoons to Grave of the Fireflies.

They didn't own that engine, AKI did. and in an interview with IGN they asked THQ why they don't re-release those games on Xbox arcade etc. THQ said they couldn't because they couldn't find AKI or whoever bought them or if they just dissolved.

as for this article: fark there goes Darksiders and the South Park RPG which look farkin' awesome!

Man and they made like 5 million dollars with the latest humble bundle too.

I want to get DS2, but the PC port was fraught with issues which will probably not get patched now.

I have to go against the SR3 group think here and say I didn't love it. Does every mission have to be an epic slug fest where you kill 483583745 cops and blow up half the city? What about some finesse and build up like the GTA series gives you? Granted GTA 4 was my least favorite of the 3d era but I did play through the whole thing. Saints Row I gave up after around 12 exhausting hours of "play"

Vice City was definitely the high point of the series. San Andreas was more serious but added more content (a LOT more content) and more polish that VC. GTA4 was trying to be Godfather: The Game, and just ended up being really bland. The most believable, fully realized city I've ever seen, sure, but so incredibly bland. Snarkily named products and companies only do so much to counter a really morose plot and game world.

I have a hunch you wouldn't enjoy Monty Python's Hamlet.

Fark you, bucko. Was SRTT beter than SR2? No. Was it better than Rockstar's cousin calling sim? Most definitley.

Tis a shame.  I rather enjoyed Saints row 2 and 3.  They sucked at the WWE games though (or really all the sports games I tried with them).  Sad as this is, there are plenty of other games out there.  Currently playing far cry 3 which is exceptional btw.  I recommend it to anyone who likes sandbox games.

I played and enjoyed SR2... couldn't get into SR3 though. I'm not entirely sure why, maybe the schtick just played itself out for me over the course of one game... not enough to keep me interested for two games.

Hey Guys,

THQ is a PUBLISHER.

Publishers own developers, who actually make the videogames. Those developers are likely to be sold off along with the properties.

South Park is my only concern, but it wasn't delayed because of this. Its delay exacerbated this.

I don't know about the rest of the series, but Saint's Row the Third is TERRIBLE.

/Huge GTA fan from way back, Saints Row 3 doesn't hold a candle to any GTA, not even close.
//Saint's Row 3 is Buggy, awful stories, buggy, bad controls, buggy!

Cripes. The anti-Linux douchebags will be unbearable. THQ had just expressed interest in porting games to the Linux Steam client, and presumably the Steambox.

I dislike San Andreas, Vice City, and Saints Row: The Third for the same reasons, and it has nothing to do with motif and tone.
