I love SoA but it's gotten a little melodramatic of late. Charlie Hunnam's character has turned into a whiny little biatch.

Mind of the North Star: /Any farker wanna vouch for Louie?

It is good. A comedy without a laugh track, so that is a bonus.

A different take on comedy, where Louie basically plays himself in real life (being a comedian). Unlike his previous comedy show Lucky Louie which only lasted 1 season and is not nearly as good.

It's not funny. At least not "ha ha" funny. Imagine 22 minutes of Lucy pulling the football out from Charlie Brown in increasingly disastrous and humiliating ways. I think it's great, but it's certainly not for everybody. That said, I'd watch "Duckling" first. It's probably the best episode of the series and pretty well showcases Louis CK's humor exactly.

If you like Louis CK as much as he likes himself, you'll enjoy it.

It's different - mixes comedy with heavy amounts of pathos and awkwardness. It's not really my thing but people who like awkward humor will enjoy it.

Shows I think have been worthy of watching this year...

Nashville -a soap with surprisingly good music, and hot women

Neighbors - high concept sitcom which I find funny, probably most viewers will not. Silly is fine by me.

Last Resort - (probably overly) Ambitious action/thriller that is really fun to watch. It is not lasting longer than a season which is most likely a good thing. I really do not see how the premise could last longer than that. It could have been better if it were a bit more dark. Networks still shy away from a gritty feel.

Arrow - This show was really a surprise for me, I really expected a schlock-fest kiddie show. Instead, I see a well balance action/mystery/romance show about a super hero much along the lines of batman. The producers do a good job of producing a great looking show on a thin budget.

Louis is okay. I just found out about Jeff Jefferies..... so its kinda hard to laugh at anything else a comedian says right now

In all seriousness, Happy Endings is the funniest show on TV.

I do, and that's why I love the show.

/actually I love it for the same reason I love Wilfred:  Tragic dark comedy makes me feel things I don't want to feel.  And that's fun from time to time.

Louie is a pretty groundbreaking show. Basically, the network gave Louis CK a blank check to bring back a finished show. You never know what an episode is going to be about. And I think that a lot of his fans don't realize that he was a pretty experienced filmmaker before he started making the show, so a lot of thought has gone into the "natural" look of the series and his artistic collaboration with his production crew. The show also won a little thing called an Emmy for, I think, Season 2.

And the first two seasons of the show are on Netflix streaming, and iTunes has all three seasons, so no need to steal it.

Glad to see Longmire on that list. A little less murder next season would be fine with me, since it's the characters and the small town/reserve political and social strife that really drive the show.

Loved Boss. So sad it's gone.

My current favorites: Boardwalk Empire, Shameless, House of Lies, Homeland, Top Chef and, of course, Game of Thrones.

Loved SOA so it's great that it's #1 on this guys list. That said, I liked Last Resort, but you're right on the money. It'd have been better as a mini-series, but that would never fly. If it had been of FX, AMC, et all it could have been great. Honestly can't think of a single actor I disliked, and I really enjoyed the premise.

Loved EB&D for the first season but it's gone downhill since then. Pretty disappointed since it's my style of humor too. AHS was a good first season, but I just couldn't get into the 2nd. Not a huge fan of the same actors in different setting I guess.

Oh I am with you on season 3 being the weakest but there was still some stomach destroying laughs for me. I enjoy Ashley Schaffer far more than any man should. I am digging season 2 of AHS just as much as the first so far. I am a horror nut so I again I am probably biased.

If one doesn't like Ashley Schaffer, they should lay down on some rail road tracks for a few minutes. His character is hilarious.

When the author lists "The Stevie Harvey Show" (syndicated), does he really mean the reruns of the 1990s show?

IMO the best shows not on critics lists

Arrow- Was prepared to hate it but turned out liking it a lot. Now with added Barrowman
Happy Endings- Just a silly show that make me laugh consistantly
Archer- Don't know how this show isn't at the top of everyone's list

thegod082: When the author lists "The Stevie Harvey Show" (syndicated), does he really mean the reruns of the 1990s show?

Nope. He has his own daytime talk show now. I've never watched it, but from the previews and ads I've seen, it looks to be in the same space as Maury or Springer rather than Ellen.

I love Breaking Bad, however I'm waiting for it to wrap up clean ala The Shield.
Sons of Anarchy is still on its Hamlet Path
I couldn't get into The Walked Dead, just laughed through the entire premiere.

The real comedy is a little known in the US show called Peep Show, it's not about strippers, but it's on Channel 4 and very available via torrents.

Homeland went right off the rails, I stopped watching it 3 or 4 episodes into season 2, I just didn't care anymore, Morena Baccarin's tits aside.

2012-12-20 09:03:20 AM
I heartily agree with Justified, but I'm betting that will be on a lot of critics' lists, so it probably doesn't qualify for this guy's list.

I'd also suggest:
Psych
Happy Endings
Last Resort
