I hate it when "innocent" is used as a noun. "The slaughter of the innocents must stop."

Not sure this qualifies for the "stupid" tag... I think putting the National Guard in schools is extreme, but at least they're trying to move in some direction.

It's better than making the teachers carry guns.

You know what? No. I don't want a police state, thankyouverymuch.

The last time somebody did this was in Alabama, wasn't it?

Why don't we just put the schools in National Guard armories?

2012-12-19 06:06:35 PM
I thought the idea was we don't have armed people at the schools and that's why there are shooting rampages.  Why is Feinstein a dumbass if you believe that Subby?

California gives us two of the worst POS Senators ever, but they aren't the same person.

While I agree with some, or even many of her rants in a base ideological way, sometimes she rustles my jimmies.

She's seen the original Red Dawn too many times.

I'm a libtard. Hell, I'm Libtard 2.0: Libtardier. But for some reason she has always found the perfect way to grate on my nerves.

What's so bad about them, and why are they worse than people like DeMint, Shelby, Inhofe, and Coburn?  Be specific.  How are they some of the worst Senators in history?  And I didn't even go back further than currently serving Senators.  I could easily toss in Strom Thurmond.  Are Feinstein and Boxer worse than Strom Thurmond?

I don't like them much, I disagree with them quite often. But I was simply making a snarky comment because subby picked the wrong senator.

Thanks, B.

Anyway, from what I heard, the proposal isn't to deploy Guard troops to envy school, it's just reimbursing the costs of having the Guard sent to a school should they be needed.

If this is true, then it goes from being buttfarkingly stupid to a pretty good idea.

Considering that subby couldn't even get the woman's name right...

If you want to have access to guns like we do now, the only way to be safe from wacko people is to live in a police state. Ironic, isn't it?

We need to deploy them at the border, with shoot to kill orders.

Or they're trying to point out solutions to school shootings that are much more absurd than, let's say, making guns harder to come by.

You know, if you think about this idea... even for a little bit... it still doesn't make any sense. I think everyone's efforts would be better spent by going to a single payer health care system and giving people a chance at getting the treatment they need for the mental illness before it ends up getting so bad that someone has a psychotic break and starts shooting little kids.

Even that wouldn't totally stop the mass shootings, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a hell of a lot more effective than establishing a security perimeter around schools and posting enough sentries to guard the doors and ground level windows.

GAT_00: Are Feinstein and Boxer worse than Strom Thurmond?

Ted Kennedy left a woman to drown and ran away because he's a coward. Robert Byrd was in the KKK.

Thurmond ran as a Dixiecrat on a racist agenda.

Proving once again the greatest crime you can possibly commit is to disagree with liberals.

This isn't the solution I would want, but I would be more comfortable with it than arming teachers. Frankly, some of the teachers at my kids' school are .... a little squirrelly already....

I don't disagree with you, but as a knee jerk reaction, this one will more likely to cause no harm than actually make things worse...

2012-12-19 09:11:21 PM
I hate it when Senators and Reps don't even bother to THINK before they throw ideas out.

For example, in the state of Missouri there are just under 12,000 guardspeople across army/air. There are also just under 3,000 public schools plus another 1,000 private schools in the state. That means 1/3 of the entire guard would be required to be in schools every day. Even with a rotation every person in the guard would have to take 4 months off of their regular job to sit in a local school. MADNESS.

/the next shooter would just hit a preschool, or playground, or church, or restaurant, or Best Buy, or kids sporting even, or campground....

moonscatter: I don't disagree with you, but as a knee jerk reaction, this one will more likely to cause no harm than actually make things worse...

At the very least it should make a whole generation more comfortable with living with the trappings of a police state. Hmmmm... having said that, I'm wondering why there isn't more congressional support for this initiative. It's odd that it comes from a Democrat.

Senators an idiot, but the basic idea seems reasonable. There's no reason a school can't have an armed security officer on premises, a panic button in each classroom, and restricted access during school hours. i.e. all doors except one are locked from the inside and that one requires people to be buzzed in or a key card.

That would be hilarious. Some old codger who was in Viet Nam gets bored and starts fixin' to "learn them disrespectful kids a lesson".

2012-12-19 09:13:54 PM

kxs401: Are you telling me this headline is trolling? I refuse to believe it.

Yup. This, and almost every headline about the topic out there. It doesn't "deploy the National Guard to schools" or "feature armed guards on campus" - it earmarks part of the $640 billion defense bill to reimburse state and local governments for things like creating tip lines and installing security cameras. And yes, if an emergency occurs, the National Guard can be called in on the federal government's dime. We aren't going to fill school hallways with soldiers, for fark's sake.

its an equally stupid idea when the gun nuts or the liberal senator advises it.

and good call, saying all our vets are rednecks in uniform. classy.

People like her are reason a lot of people hate people who are liberal. The same reason people hate people with conservative views because of the rabid people of the GOP.
