Was the first episode about guns?!

the executives probably heard the title and thought that it had to do with sparkly vampires..."Make this happen. Yesterday!"

A pleasant faced man steps up to greet you
He smiles and says he's pleased to meet you
Beneath his hat the strangeness lies
Take it off, he's got three eyes
Truth is false and logic lost
Now the fourth dimension is crossed...

You have entered the Twilight Zone
Beyond this world strange things are known
Use the key, unlock the door
See what your fate might have in store...
Come explore your dreams' creation
Enter this world of imagination...

You wake up lost in an empty town
Wondering why no one else is around
Look up to see a giant boy
You've just become his brand new toy
No escape, no place to hide
Here where time and space collide

You have entered the Twilight Zone
Beyond this world strange things are known
Use the key, unlock the door
See what your fate might have in store...
Come explore your dreams' creation
Enter this world of imagination...

Another Twilight Zone fiasco?  Heads will roll.

maybe they can come with good, original ideas.  and not manage to kill someone in the process.

ManateeGag: maybe they can come with good, original ideas.  and not manage to kill someone in the process.

They need a strong, central creative mind or two behind the show to make it work.

The original TZ had Rod Serling. The first season of the '85 show had Harlan Ellison and Rockne S. O'Bannon behind it, and Season 3 had J. Michael Straczynski writing some of the better episodes.

'03 didn't have a strong central figure behind it, and '03 failed all the way around.

Step 1: Do not let Forest Whitaker host it.

They don't need a host.

S1 of the '85 show did well without an onscreen host.

/when talking about the '80s TZ, you only talk about season 1.

It's been said that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Those behind the rebooting of The Twilight Zone felt as if a stitch in time couldn't save nine.

Even knowing that all that glitters isn't gold, sleeping dogs couldn't be allowed to lie as all roads led to Rome.

While one would suspect that a penny saved is a penny earned, but a fool and his money are soon parted, as the rolling stone gathered no moss as it rolled over the hopes and dreams of all the fans of The Twilight Zone, not unlike a bull in a china shop.

CBS, a station that proves that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link...

... in The Twilight Zone.

Nothing will ever top the original Twilight Zone series.

Don't forget, all day Twilight Zone Marathon, Dec. 31 & January 1.

Have Billy Mumy as the host. Nuff said.

Preach it.

It was a show that came along at the right time with the right story premises and the right talent.

You are entering the vicinity of an area adjacent to a location. The kind of place where there might be a monster, or some kind of weird mirror. These are just examples; it could also be something much better. Prepare to enter: The Scary Door.

That's just it.

It doesn't matter if you have them memorized. Those episodes continue to make for good viewing, especially with a solid supply of snacks and what-have-ya.

Twilight Zone? Is that like The Scary Door?

Outer Limits was better in my opinion. They should bring that one back instead

It's all about the writing, a good anthology series that a network is actually willing to back long enough to find its footing would be a novel concept.

The Blu-ray restoration of the show is amazing. I never thought those old episodes could look as good as they do.

If they are doing a new series, I hope they can get great actors to show up for it. That's one thing that was pretty heavy in the original series that never quite happened in the revivals. We went from established big-name actors during the Serling era, to b-movie and TV rejects for the revivals.

2012-12-19 07:49:25 PM
CBS, DON'T...DO...IT. The original series stood the test of time.

I can see it now. Within the first 2 minutes of the first episode, someone will mention vagina, penis, drugs, casual sex, or body excreta. Or there will be gratuitous violence or blood letting.

Some things can be better when left to the imagination.

Is it really a reboot? It sounds like it's just picking up where they left off. Unless they plan to remake the classic episodes.

Forget it. Twilight Zone was Serling's idea and only he knew how to make it work. The movie and reboots after he died were feeble copies at best.

My sentiments exactly.

I don't really see anything to be gained out of this.

And that's more than just the rank sentimentalist in me talking.

Daviud Duchovny would be a pretty good candidate for hosting. He's already done something similar with Red Shoe Diaries and he's got geek cred to boot.

I was thinking more in the vein of his Red Shoe Diaries intros.

"We never know where our paths in life will take us. Only that we will go there, somehow. And we will find out things we never knew, things we never expected, about how we love, about our passions, about how it was really a cookbook for humans."

I think it could work if they shake up the format. Instead of 1 episode short stories do 3-6 episode novella type stories. That way you can tell a compelling tale with a reasonable beginning, middle, and ending without too much cutting or filler. The best of them could be spun off into full series if they are popular enough. Tell the bean counters they are "extended pilots" if you have to.

I've always wanted to see 'Time Enough at Last' re-imagined with a skater rather than a bookworm. This kid gets hassled all the time for skating and then a nuke goes off and he's the only one left so he goes and shreds everything in sight. Then as he's doing a rail slide down the town hall steps he falls and shatters both of his legs.

Hehe. I always watched those with the sound off so I wouldn't know. I didn't even know for the longest time that was Mulder sitting on the rock with the dog.

I really like that episode where a complete idiot is given an amazing gift but he abuses it and it dooms him to his own personal purgatory.

Same idea was in a Twilight Zone comic I read as a kid: guy wishes for immortality, gets his wish, and later, falls off a cliff into a remote ravine, shattering all his bones and leaving him alive but immobile, presumably forever.

TZ is my all time favorite series, right there with x-files. The writing for the original series was so damn superb. Think about the age of beaver cleaver and andy griffith, and this show that generally had stories of misanthropes and misfits who rarely came out smiling and happy and the end. It was freaking brilliant. Favorite episodes are stop at willoughby, and the episode where the astronauts land on the planet full of statues of people and it ends up being a graveyard.

There were VERY few duds. I can only think of "the black motorcycle jackets" and the one with the robot baseball pitcher as ones that I really didnt care for.

Yes, the marathons are perfect for hardcore snacking as well. Although I will probably have my own marathon with netflix..btw, any fans know why season 4 isn't on there?

I don't know if we have strong enough writers available to create new TZ stories.

Not that they don't exist, but, what sells today is so mediocre. Anything creative or possibly thought provoking gets the circular file.

The original is full of dead people. Watching movies or TV shows with actors who are now dead gives me the creeps.

I loved this Serling show as well. It had some comedy relief from time to time, but could get pretty macabre.
