Just so everyone knows, you can already CHOSE to pay your loans based on your income. This bill would FORCE you to do so, and make your boss be the one collecting the money.

oh, and it would end the Public Service Loan Forgiveness plan, because fark teachers.

If you borrow money, you BORROWED money. This is not a gift it is a loan. Just because you took some stupid major and are now pouring coffee somewhere doesn't discount your promise somehow. If need be work two jobs and devote one to repayment of your loan. Besides your employer already has to withhold funds for numerous government boondoggles, like you "free" healthcare.

It actually wouldn't cause much problems for them than they already deal with.  I did payroll for a while and was shocked at the number of people with garnishments. Most were for child support.

No is saying they should not repay their loan, and anyone who wants to already has the option of doing so based on their income. This would require EVERYONE to do so, which would hurt the higher income graduates- good luck getting a mortgage with 15% of your pay going to your student loans.

I pay both child support and my student loan. One is more important than the other and I pay more to the one that is more important. Student loans are pretty low interest, so I'm in no rush.

You are going by the way things are done now, the government "repays" the loans with our taxes. Make the borrower responsible and lower the tax of the population. The amount owed on student loans could make a real dent on the tax rate of the rest of us. I know taxes are good for us I should be proud to relinquish 50% + of my money to the poor government blaa bla bla, heard all the arguments from big government types. Just think if when you got your pay that there was more for you and less for the government, you maybe could pay off your loan or buy a new car or house. By the by I paid for my education while working (two jobs), raising a family, buying a house, voluntaring time to the less fortunate and being a Cub scout/Boy scout person. So it is possible even for the weakest minded of us all like myself. I am obviously dumb, I rely upon myself and my family in this world.

it's part of the bill. There is only one deferment period allowed now.

As someone pointed out, it will take maybe 3 months before Congress has to draft emergency legislation to fix the loans of some poor guy in Afghanistan.

Now, this bill has NO CHANCE of passing. I doubt it ever even gets to the Senate. But it's a bad bill, and the person who wrote it should feel bad.

I guess I sometime tire of hearing people talk nonsense. Everyone who thinks that the world needs changing would only change the world to fit their ideas or needs. I know poor black jews irish homos bi sexuals and everyone else who thinks that they are being used somehow. We all are being used. All one can do is just try to get farther up the ladder so you are better treated for being used. It doesn't matter who you think is on your side. Do you honestly think Obama or anyone in power will surrender any power to help the "little guy"? The argument over more taxes is just a show, both sides want more taxes, money is power. The reason you all think I am a troll and haven't been around for 10 years is I was too busy earning a living to fool around here. I just find the failure of the education system appalling though I should not be surprised they are in fact government employees. If you don't like my comments ignore them, it seems that ignorance is considered a virtue in is this society. But when the people find that the future is just as bleak as the past maybe some feeble light will shine into their eyes. Only when the people figure out that they are the best hope for their future will the clouds part. And in parting nah nah na nah nah.

This is why we can't have a reasonable discussion. Nobody is saying that people shouldnt repay thier loans. What we are saying is that repayment amounts should be fair and reasonable as to not disrupt a persons life assuming a 40 hour a week job

More money from poor and middle class people to the wealthy, probably.

You start out in 1954 by saying, "N-, n-, n-." By 1968 you can't say "n-"-that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states' rights, and all that stuff, and you're getting so abstract. Now, you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.... "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "N-, n-."

It solves a lot of problems.

- College students tend to vote Democratic.
- They often use student loans to help pay for school.
- They also often work while going to school, to help pay for school as well as living expenses.
- College students will have to react to this law by either 1) working longer 2) dropping out or 3) reducing living expenses.
1) If they decide to work longer hours, they study less and have to drop out. They might also have to work on Election Day.
2) If they decide to drop out, they are no longer among college students (who tend to vote Democratic).
3) If they reduce living expenses, they starve, possibly to death. Or drop out.
- Less Democratic votes means a better chance of a Republican victory in elections.

Democrats were winning, and now they're not! Problem solved!

This whole thing starts to sound like a scheme to me. You need a degree to get a job - you need to pay for that degree - cost of degrees across the board is skyrocketing - earned wages, relative to production, are as low as ever - you're poor, with money automatically taken, for the huge debt you needed to get the low paying job.

Great start to life, that.

Then you have retards like our fellow Farkers who think that nobody has student loan debt but English Majors.

No. This would actually make education MORE affordable, moron. By forcing people to pay back what they borrowed, people will think twice about taking out a government backed loan. Without all the government backed money floating around tuition costs will eventually drop.
