Wow, that's an old reference. I was watching that TV commercial when I was a kid.

First thing that came to mind: this guy (NSFW blood, but funny in a really bad way)

I'm pretty surprised the owl survived that.

I creamed an owl once in my old S-10. It was swooping down for something right in front of me late at night. I had quite the hoot nah it sucked, I like owls.

Well, someone at Hogwarts isn't getting their mail.

2012-12-19 04:31:43 PM
And the really scary thing is that there is an F-150 trifecta in play.

Worst thing I've ever hit was a skunk. The car reeked for days.

I had a pigeon bounce off my windshield. Left a powdery imprint...

The owl was released back into the wild a few hours later where it flew off, apparently uninjured.

Uninjured? Look at the poor thing, its face is all smashed in!!

Let's see. A one. A twhoooooo. A three.

It takes three.

heh, i hit an owl once, too. took out the headlight on a drive down a mountain. had to wait for another driver to come along to follow down. never found owl, might have survived.

2012-12-19 07:06:19 PM
I had suicidal inanimate objects that used to leap in front of me while I was driving, which is why I now stick to public transportation, one of my skateboards or bumming a ride. If an owl, or any other living creature, tried to off itself that way and I was the driver, I'd be totally upset, dudes. I'd probably drop the "black metal chick persona" and break down and cry.  I haven't driven, 'cept in an emergency situation, in years now.

I've also hit two bats, around here they seem to like this one stretch of highway surrounded by undeveloped hills.

I've also been driving with the sunroof retracted, I looked up and a farking hawk was flying right above my car.
/the hawk incident scared the shiat out of me at first but then I thought it was awesome.

Not sure, but I'm guessing it only takes one lick from a Ford F-150 to get to the center of an owl.

my wife hit and killed a domestic white rabbit Easter eve she had lost power steering just prior to this rabbit wandering on to the highway. She said she killed the Easter bunny.

That owl wouldn't have survived a second against a FERD F-TEENTHOUSAND. You can even feed the owl to the whale you have living in its bed.

i had a woodpecker fly into my windshield 8 or 9 years ago. i was helping a friend move some furniture. broke its neck, so we disposed of the carcass. it was pretty large for a woodpecker.

Last summer on my road trip, TWO owls almost flew into my car windshield while driving at night, but luckily I saw the the first one in time to slow down, and the second one managed to bank out of the path of the car just in time. The second one could possibly have broken the windshield, because it was huge...

There is a woodpecker who regularly visits my parents house and does his thing on one of the smokestacks of an old dumptruck my dad keeps around to haul wood with. You can hear that farker for miles.

In the apartment I used to live in there was a small section of the roof where the nails loosened. I was out back one day and saw a woodpecker on the roof, then I saw him hover and climb into the gap. That solved the mystery of occasional pecking inside our roof. I didn't ruin his home though because during the summer he would feast on the bumble bees that took up residence under the deck.

Good point. I remember it being on TV the same year that Nixon resigned.

And that was a very good memory. :)

The ad's never gone away completely, but I can date myself far enough back to when they were still airing it with the turtle before the owl in the 80s.

Was driving to work in the dark and saw a young girl walking to the bus stop on the left side of the road so I slowed down a little on the single lane road. suddenly as I get close to her a Terrier runs under my wheels killing it cuz I couldn't stop, and if I swerved I'd hit the girl. F()cking dog owner comes out all shaken, and I apologize 20 times, but it was her or the dog. F()cking dog owner grabs his mangled dog remains and says to me "damn thats the second dog I've lost this month"!!! WTF you had your first dog get nailed by a car, why not build a fence or let your dog out in the back yard asshole.

I once ran over a Great Grey Owl that was in the middle of my lane eating roadkill.
...took it's head clean off without even knocking off a feather.

I took it to a local taxidermist who obtained a special permit to mount it for public display.
I imagine it's in a library or DNR station somewhere now.

...it seemed like such a waste to leave such a beautiful bird rot on the side of the road.

I've seen the same thing happen on house windows. The natural oil in the feathers causes dust to stick on the imprint.

Once wrapped an owl up in a jacket and took it to my house, which was only yards away. It had been hit by a car and was sitting on the road, stunned. He sat on my son's swing set overnight and then flew away.

Glad he was OK, but those talons were scary. Pretty stupid move on my part, I know.

So ... csb.
