bloobeary: I like that the new console has actual controls, instead of just random junk from the prop room.

The room itself is just too generic, though. It looks the designer just grabbed some sci-fi wall textures from an aftermarket 3d texture package.

The other rooms before this one at least had some kind of unifying theme. You could tell some thought went into them. This just looks cheap and lazy.

Again, I want to point out that we aren't seeing the entire set, just a small fraction of it. Here is another part of the set that I saw a week or so ago:
cdn3.whatculture.com

I don't know if that is part of the ceiling or under the platform that Matt Smith is standing on.

As for it looking cheap, lazy and generic, I have to disagree. They managed a sci-fi look to the set without going making it look like it was stolen from Star Trek. The green circular pad, which looks like an old school radar display definitely gives it a feeling of the second Doctor era while still looking different and more modern.

OK. I stand corrected. It IS legit: Link

We've been missing the point:

"As well as a new companion, we've recently confirmed there will be a new title sequence, new theme tune and new look to the interior of the familiar blue box when the Time Lord returns in The Snowmen, 5.15pm Christmas Day."

NEW THEME MUSIC? An upgrade please please please!

If the pic is part of a much larger set, I can't wait to see it. If it's teeny, and it's only appearance is the Christmas episode, and they have another set in the next series, that's fine too. Don't ruin the theme music (more).

I've never liked the Matt Smith-era techno remix of the theme.

Something closer to the Troughton-Baker era theme, or even the Eccleston/Tennant theme would be better.

Nice looking set, but I've always wanted to see an itty-bitty lounge area off to one side of the main console where characters could sit, drink coffee, and weave more threads into the plot.

I like it. The whole steampunk thing never really worked for me. And, as others have said, I want to see more of the Tardis. We know it's big inside, yet we only ever see the control room, and everything happens in that room. It's as bad as Lex's mansion in Smallville where everything happened in that one living room/office. Even if it was kickboxing lessons it happened in that one room. Some mansion.

give me doughnuts: The new interior is crap.
The new Doctor is crap, as well.

Perfect match.

Hated emo 10. Hated emo 10's Tardis interior. Different strokes and all that. My favorite was the 5th/6th one. Thought it was awesome, of course I was also 13 then.

Nurglitch: I love that costume! They really need to make a Tardis-heavy episode that makes the ideas in the Invasion of Time a reality. Damnit, we deserve to see the Olympic Pool in London as the folder for the Tardis' swimming pool. Also, Matt Smith in a speedo. That is all.

Yes please!

Sorry, the Doctor gets Windows 8 next year. He'll have Metro, so the Tardis will still be huge, but it will involve a lot of sideways scrolling.

whizbangthedirtfarmer: the other TARDIS design for Smith was waaaaay too large; you could see in some of the episodes that the directors really had to work on figuring out how and where to stage scenes while still having enough camera focal length to capture the actors ... acting.

They had a hard time capturing the actors acting because these actors can't act for shiat. Eccleston never had a hard time filling up the set, Tennent actually could have used a bigger set. So don't go blaming things like focal length, because that is bullshiat. Smith is simply a shallow actor. Every time he tries to be big, it comes off as forced and contrived. Yet rather than play to his strengths (quiet deviousness he does quite well, for example) Moffatt keeps trying to have him play big again and again and again as if this time it will work. Meanwhile, he shrinks the sets and hires other people with even less talent than Smith all to make him look bigger than he really is. It is a farce. And if Moffatt intends it to be a farce of the original series I salute him, but I know better.

I was wondering how long til the "Moffat sucks! Matt Smith sucks! The show sucks!" crowd would start to turn up. fark off. Nobodies cares.

As for the new control room, I'm in.

Sure beats the hell out of this mess.

Still, this picture is awful. It smacks of some PA who snapped it on his Iphone and sent it out. Then the BBC decided they had better get in front of it. They didn't go legit with it until 4:42 local time today, and I saw this yesterday. With the greenscreen consoles and bad lighting? They would have wanted a better roll-out than this. I'll bet somebody got fired over it.

Those were a bit disappointing. Given her age, I would expect them to sit a bit higher.

I have a brother who's a publisher in Texas. He loves steampunk so much that nine out of ten comics are steampunk based.

He's now a manager at a hardware franchise chain store because he can't give his comics away.

The set doesn't match his suit at all.
It's like he's some kind of time traveler thrown into the future.

It doesn't matter how much scenery you give him, Tennant will chew his way through all of it.

I rather liked the cobbled-together feel of Smith's first control room.  It seemed to fit his character.
I especially like the hooded lamp thingies, which I swear have been recycled from earlier set dressing
pieces from the show's first iteration or from SPACE: 1999.

But to each their own.

I'm reserving judgement on the new one until I actually see it in action (a shocking stance to take, I know).

There's supposed to be a "Journey to the Center of the TARDIS" type episode next year.

I hope that they didn't scale down the control room for a smaller set. I like newcomer's reactions when they step into the TARDIS to be "Wow...It's bigger on the inside", not "Eh...I like how you decorated the inside of this perfectly normal police box, but this junk in the middle makes it a bit cramped in here, don't you think?"

The console alone wouldn't fit in the Police Box exterior... which begs the question how did the third Doctor bring it outside to tinker with in Inferno?

In The Doctor's Wife, they traveled without a shell. Maybe it transported itself out.

How is babby delivered?

Gunny Walker: In The Doctor's Wife, they traveled without a shell. Maybe it transported itself out.

Probably not, given that the Doctor was tinkering with it because his knowledge of the dematerialization codes had been blocked by the Timelords during his exile.

turboke: How is babby delivered?

That's "pull to open", not "push to deliver". :)
