Are they going to give him another Peace Prize or is that just one per customer?

Yay empty award from a nearly dead format! WOOOOO!!!!!  Bet that'll go right next to the Nobel on the mantle, won't it?

Wow.  Still bitter about that, huh?

Haven't they given him that honor before?

As I said in the other thread, it's hard to argue that his election wasn't a big deal. He had an enormous echo chamber, tons of money, and half of congress allied against him, but he came out with a resounding win.

Though, I credit that less to him, and more to the people finally getting tired of dealing with the right's bullshiat.

Prepare for the Derpstorm!

2012-12-19 09:40:14 AM
Huh. This is the second time for Mr. Obama. And presidents Bush and Clinton also got the honor two times.

I didn't realize they did that.

2012-12-19 09:49:59 AM
You know who else was named Person of the Year twice?

It was actually Stalin.

The newly elected or reelected President has always been "man-of-the-year" since at least WW2

2012-12-19 09:56:38 AM
I just thank God after years of toiling away in obscurity that he's finally getting some recognition.

Really? That sort of takes the teeth out of it.

Pity, I was hoping it would be Malala Yousafzai, but she's runner up so that I think is good.

Its not the Ikea Monkey? I was sure it was going to be the Ikea Monkey.

2012-12-19 10:02:37 AM
Actually, if we go by the technical definition (biggest newsmaker, good or bad) they really had to give it to the Newtown shooter. Not sure that would have gone over so well.

2012-12-19 10:02:38 AM
Time to remind everyone that Time's man-of-the-year is a magazine promotion, not news.

Wow, I thought you were going to be on deep freeze until the 2014 elections. Welcome back, tears of impotent conservative rage guy!

2012-12-19 10:08:30 AM
2008 Obama
2004 W
2000 W
1996 Scientist who did something with AIDS (Clinton was 1998 with Starr)
1992 Clinton
1988 Earth
1984 Ueberroth (Reagan 1983)
1980 Reagan
1976 Carter
1972 Nixon (Nixon in 1971, too)
1968 (Apollo 8 astronauts, LBJ was 1967)
1964 LBJ

Past that, the current President (or assumed president) is Person of the year around the time of their election but it isn't as consistent.

People surprised or upset about this are idiots.

So not the girl who got shot in the head in Pakistan for trying to get girls an education.  Or the people involved in finding the Higgs Boson, or the people on the Curiosity rover team, or even one of the  sixteen mass shooters this year.  We'll give it to the guy who won an election, because he won an election.

Why do we still treat Time magazine as if it still has relevance?

2012-12-19 10:10:39 AM
That would only prove he's human subby. "Person" is generally a philosophical judgment.

Mohammed Morsi was in the running for that? Are they nuts?

That's not a fair comparison. All those people in Nuremburg were really there for the Decembrists concert.

No. It was an online poll. Learn to read.

Kim Jong Un voted TIME magazine's 'person of the year' in reader's poll - thanks to a boost from hacker group 4Chan.
