Qazi traveled to New York last month in hopes of getting a job to fund his terrorist plans

He probably shouldn't have put that in his cover letter.

Being a block from Times Square this week, I do not approve.  Well, I approve of his failure. Just not of his stupid plans.

my guess is there are tens of thousands of people who want to avenge the deaths of their loved ones by killing Americans. our gov't seems to be responsible for a lot of death and suffering. my personal preference is those seeking vengenace seek out real scumbags worth killing. get their moneys worth and what not. aim for the villains!

If only the FBI had bankrolled him, given him fake materials, and arrested him when he tried to detonate a defunct bomb.

That's what they usually do.

Sounds like the FBI is facing budget problems.

This is why you don't post your crazy bomb plots on forums, join fringe groups, or tell your neighbors about your plans for overthrowing the government. If you're going to blow something up just do it don't talk about it to people. And what is their obsession with bombs and high visibility targets? Not to be calloused about a tragedy but we've seen that just using a gun is pretty effective.

Since I don't want anyone to die I'm immensely pleased how little thought goes into these people's plans, but I just find it weird that terrorists in America we hear about on the news seem to be pretty uniformly stupid. Do the smart terrorists get here and decide "screw it, I'll use my bomb money to open a store"?

I don't want to give anybody any ideas, but what would have to happen
for the USoA to say "Well. That's a Nukeing".
Would Russia and China say "That's an appropriate response. We
would have done the same."

Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Gilbert said at a bail hearing that Raees Alam Qazi, 20, researched bomb-making techniques on Internet sites affiliated with al-Qaida, including one using Christmas tree lights..

Gilbert said. Investigators also found bomb-making and related components at the Qazi family home in Oakland Park, as well as explosives research evidence on a computer used by Qazi..

Just what I thought. Every mother farker has bomb making material in their house. Hell, the flourescent light bulbs can be used to make bombs. I bet a pound of beacon can be used to help build a bomb, what, with all that becan grease. Your car is a potential bomb. Geez, all the FBI has to do is just pick someone, um maybe someone who's opinions are not PC, and arrest them and charge them with possessing bomb making material.

They should institute "No Terrorism" ZONES.

I don't know maybe the State Department could stop handing out visas like Chiclets to countries that are overtly hostile to America and American culture. ( until they calm the fark down.)

// Seems stupid to send of American troops out one gate at the airport .
And bringing in hostile would be terrorists through the next gate .

"Qazi had made money by selling bicycles on the Internet"

Say, Judge, did anyone mention how he got those bicycles?

But he didn't actually blow anything up! Maybe it was Qazi-legal ?

A Pakistani-born man wanted to avenge the deaths of U.S. drone attacks in Afghanistan by blowing up a New York City landmark but lacked the money and materials to carry out the plan, a federal prosecutor said Tuesday.

Just once I'd like to read a story about an extremist Muslim wanting to avenge the deaths of women giving polio vaccines or an attack on a 13 year old girl

It will never happen.

And if Terrorism does happen in those zones we can increase the penalties.
