The world's not going to change because you wet yourself at the idea of a gun or, heaven forbid, shotgun shells.

My first thought, too, but I wonder if they use bomb/drug sniffing dogs. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

In the video, the reporter said that the shotgun and knife were in plain sight of the police officers as they swept the parking lot. She also said that the penalty for having weapons on school property is expulsion.

As much as I think discretion is important in these cases and expulsion is excessive, if you're on school property with those items, you'd better know school policy regarding those items.

IMO, the kid is just a dumbass. A couple days of ISS where he has to write an essay on responsible gun ownership would suffice as reasonable punishment.

It doesn't do much good to keep mentally unstable people from buying guns if they can just look for a car with a gun in it that someone forgot to unlock, or break out a window with a rock.

This reminds me of for all the talk I hear about people needing to arm themselves against house intrusion, every gun owner I know who's been robbed had it happen when no one was home. NRA stickers on your car don't say "Owner is armed, go to the next house", they say "Wait until I'm not home to steal all my guns".

Everyone in the country is not going to arm themselves either, so that you tiny percentage of gun lovers can continue to have your love affair with lethal weapons. Because that's your solution, right---everyone should just be better armed. That's the one I keep hearing around here.

Well, I have several big pit bulls that sometimes get loose. When they get killed I get more, I just love my mean guard dogs. Tough shiat if you don't like it, it's my right to own dogs. Why don't you go get some big dogs of your own, so you can defend yourself from the pit bulls of the world? You aren't going to take MY rights away from ME.

/and that's how you all sound too--it's all about YOU and your precious toys.

So weird kid gets locked up because he's weird.

Fantastic.

When I was in 10th grade I was in first period class and realized that I had 3 12 gauge shotgun shells in my pocket from waiting for a deer that morning at my place. I immediately went and discreetly told her my mistake. She nodded and I handed her the 3 shells where the other students could not see them. I went back to my desk. She left. About 5 minutes later I'm being taken out by the SRO and my vehicle is being searched. I ended up being suspended for 10 days from that stunt.

I'm not a gun lover. Don't even own one any more (well, I think my shotgun and .22 rifle may still be in my parent's attic). But you need to stop and think about WHY our country has become so dangerous and strange. We've always had guns and we've always had people who kill other people with them. But we never had high school kids killing their classmates, or Sideshow Bobs shooting up a movie theater, or some upscale holocaust prepper's strange emo spawn killing 20 six year olds with an assault weapon. What changed over the last 30 years? Guns are not the real issue. The real issue is how we got so farked up so fast.

You know that you should always refuse those searches.

Where I grew up, if you refused the search, they would make you sit there while they went and got a search warrant. And then they would search the car extra-special-like. In some cases, they would plant something. Point is, you dindn't F with the cops in my area.

They need probable cause to search the car. They need probable cause to obtain a search warrant. If what you're saying is true and the court was complicit in allowing illegal searches, then they violated the constitution and should be sued. Any competent attorney could get that search thrown out of court.

But it sounds more like an urban legend to me.

TheGreatGazoo: My high school had a gun range in the basement with a rifle team.

I've heard they had to switch to air softs.

I know someone with a concealed carry permit who just about had a hole shot in the floor of his truck when the cop picked it up during a traffic stop. He had to walk the cop through how to hold the gun (get your finger off the trigger stupid), and how to unload it.

Honest, not-trolling question: He carried it in a ready-to-fire condition? I thought you weren't supposed to have a round in the chamber?

circa 1950: my aunt, at age 14, used to ride the NYC subway on the weekends, with her 12 year old brother, carrying a .22 rifle to go to a shooting range in Brooklyn.

Nobody even took a second look let alone panic or talk to them.

I've also heard of stories where high schools in rural areas would have a 'gun closet' for the fall hunting season. typically hunters start their day before dawn, so there was often time to go on a morning hunt before classes, and would go right to school after. nobody would have a problem checking their rifles on the way into class.

People do not understand incentives.  This creates an incentive for a student not to self-report, and eventually, something bad will happen.

God, I always hated school. I was the quiet, weird kid who kept to himself and didn't have a lot of friends. Every time there was a school shooting, there was a solid 3 months of shiat heaped on me.

If you want to encourage murders and school shootings, keep doing exactly that, people! Find the isolated, smart, frustrated kids who are already abjectly miserable in school and just make it worse by threatening them with legal action and frisking them constantly because other kids "make reports".

If I were in high school after this one, I'd probably be in handcuffs getting fisted by the School Resource Officer.

Must not have been that rural if they actually showed up to school during hunting season.

/I thought it was normal that schools made the first day of every hunting season (doe and buck) a vacation day.

Several kids at my high school would wake up around 4am, go hunting, then come to school. Hell, in the 80s my school used to let kids who were in the trap/skeet club bring their guns in to school so they wouldn't have to leave them in their cars to get stolen.

The outrage here is pants on head retarded.
