What crappy video game would have semi auto Bushmaster junk in it? I would think that if it were video games then these shooters would be bringing the weapons they play in the games and I wonder why they don't.

What a profound and excellent point. You should, like, write a thesis exploring the universe of possible answers to that question.

I caught that vibe from a Republican today.  "All things need to be on the table" and happened to wedge video games inbetween guns and mental health. The distraction will begin in earnest once the funerals stop and nothing will get done if they can delay long enough.

Video games are for emotionally-stunted babies who can't do anything in life but play for a high score.  Do something constructive with your life.  I'm in my twentieth year of high school football.  You're in your twentieth year of catching Pikachus.  Lol.

I don't know why GTA IV get so much hate.  Was a solid game IMHO.  But RE4 was really amazing for PS2 as was MSG3.  Pushed the system to its limits.

Funny that the powers that be at Fark have added a WYSIWYG editor but still no direct reply like the app. I digress.

The hate for GTA IV was a few things. For an open world game from the open world masters, it was surprisingly claustrophobic; a jet pack would have helped a bit.  And the dating thing was unacceptable and a complete waste of time. They stripped the fun from a fun game.

Something like Saints Row and the addons like Ballad of Gay Tony tried to recapture that sense of fun, but they still had a limited environment.

I'm hoping GTA V will fix the flaws. Sounds like it's a gigantic map of exploration and fun.

Crackdown is the go-to game for the city sandbox subgenre.  Preserves everything that made Grand Theft Auto III fun (i.e. "minimal hoarding and collect-a-thon bullshiat") and gives you an obscenely-overpowered character to wreak havoc with.  Absolutely awesome game.

"People who played the violent shooting game were much more violent and more likely to aim for the head than people shooting at targets," Bushman told FoxNews.com. "Video games are excellent training tools," his paper noted.

Excellent training, in the sense that they're learning to take shots with a lower hit percentage?

THIS!  I play video games to distract myself from my real life.  If I wanted to go on a date, bowl with my buddies, or get drunk and stumble home, I can do all that in real life.  If I'm playing GTA, I want to get more involved an an absurdly violent crime syndicate and shut out friends and lovers for a few hours.

GTAIV was approaching the uncanny valley of video game realism.  I used to joke with some friends that GTAV would give you a day job and a quarterly evaluation.

So, once again we blatantly ignore that 80% of gun violence is committed in relation to the war on drugs, and not a single gotdamn thing is mentioned about it. Now who's being dishonest?

It's FOX News, what did you expect?

2012-12-19 09:12:39 AM
Have they watched their own newscasts? The violence in them (REAL violence, not simulated as in a game) is far more prevalent. And now, you can watch news 24x7! Why doesn't anyone ever say of a murder, "He was always watching Fox News, nodding to Glenn Beck and smiling, or listening to Rush Limbaugh."

Before you accuse me... take a look at yourself.

2012-12-19 09:12:52 AM
I think FOX has it's priorities mixed up.
If ya ask me these games are great training for our beloved armed civilians. What better way for these heroes to prepare for chaotic shootouts with the badguys?

2012-12-19 09:13:47 AM
For realz, playing FPS games does desensitize you somewhat to shooting people. That's why the military trains on silhouette targets instead of bullseyes, and has FPS simulator training with human targets. Baby steps, and next thing you know, you're mowing down Hajjis.

Going to the real-gun shooting range, like this kid's mom had him do, probably has a much greater effect. BAN MARSKMANSHIP TRAINING!!1!!!

2012-12-19 09:14:30 AM
Why shouldn't games be on the table? You don't need games to survive. I say if banning them saves one child that we should do it. If you disagree with me then you want to kill children. There is just no way around it.

Oh, and of course, step one is to be a rage-filled, self-destructive whacko with a revenge complex. The video games just hone your skillz, and make it easier to pop that first cap. After that, you're fully combat effective.

Also guns are nearly impossible to get your hands on in some of those countries, and gaming (angry birds) and violent gaming would probably be two different things. A graph comparing violent gaming to violent crimes would be interesting. It would still probably be fairly flat I'd guess.

Seriously, can't we find a way to deal with these events without taking away every single citizen's rights?

Every damn problem the US has had, the solution is to take away the freedom that allowed them to make the decisions from ALL citizens. Not the least of which was homeland security act. I am glad the founders had the forsight to later add a bill of rights, which is slowing the procress down a little but man, I wonder if even they could have predicted the immense pressure, from it's own citizens none-the-less, to become a police state.

I am a white male that doesn't own an assault rifle, and doesn't sell video games. But I still want the right to not be profiled and to have a private conversation, the right to buy whatever gun I want, and the right to make whatever video game I want.

If we're going to blame videogames because the players go crazy and start "reenacting" the events in the games, then we need to start blaming Lifetime Television because viewers start acting like they are the victims of everything.
