Given the state of the Russian economy, every third Russian warship is currently being rowed by slaves "recruited" from former Soviet satellite states.

I always wondered how WWIII would start.

Next year I hear they will get a steam warship. I still cant believe all the pics Ive seen of those old soviet warships and subs just rusting at docks. Seems like hundreds of ships.

They are going there to evacuate Russian citizens. It's basically Russia telling Assad, "We're done here. Good Luck on your own."

2012-12-19 10:09:00 AM
Oh come on. It's a civilian evac mission. The Russian leadership is not going to risk damaging the equipment they just sold to the Syrians.

Aren't these the same single frigate and two unladen troop carriers that have been reported off and for the past two months as "en route to Syria"?

You know; trotted out to derp up the derpity derp?

Then I'm sure the Russians would have no issues letting a UN monitor determine their landing ship isn't chock full of supplies for Assad?

The only way Russia would have the to potential to kick Israel's ass would be if they had a functioning nuclear weapon (which is probably ture but honestly I wouldn't be terribly surprised if half of them didn't work when they were newly built and the rest are so old they wouldn't clear the bunker) and were stupid enough to lob it at a state with modern and definitely functional nukes.

Hardly. There isn't a country in the world that'll throw down with the Russians for Syria's sake. That's why there hasn't been any intervention yet besides surreptitious money and weapons funneled through a half dozen middle men.

Russia has claimed this mess. NATO will stay out unless Assad does something retarded like shoot nerve gas at Turkey. In which case, I suspect Russia will tell him he's on his own, because Russia ain't throwing down with all of NATO over a shiathole like Syria either.

John's vision in Revelations is his interpretation of a massive solar halo display.

22 ° halo, lower tangent arcs, Sundogs, 120 ° Parhelia, upper tangent arcs, Circumzenithal and Supralateral all changing with solar altitude and cloud cover.

The pregnant woman is obviously a circumscribed arc converging on itself. As the sun rose in the sky the "belly" gives "birth" to the "dragon" with is a circumhorizontal arc below.

The "Throne" is a parry arc and the "Lamb" is the Upper Tangent arc.

Huh? The Russians are going to evacuate their citizens that are stuck in Syria. The Russian and US Navies have been doing maneuvers together and around each other (in a much more antagonistic political situation than this) for decades. It'll be fine.

Only after they get done monitoring the check points that hault supplies coming in for the foreign Syrians termed rebels.

When the USSR began to decline the Navy was the first branch to take a hit, now that they are coming back the Russian Navy is last in line for that sweet, sweet defense budgeting.

While the Russian military might be coming back with their economy the Navy is, and always will be, the ginger stepchild of the Russian military.

We are missing an opportunity here.

We should be sending ships too.

We want to make sure every Russian national gets out of Syria as quickly as possible. Picking up a few thousand Russians and taking them directly back to Russia would be good for two reasons. It lets the Russians cut-loose Assad even quicker AND it lets Americans and Russians spend a little time together in a non-threatening manner. Play it up as not wanting any of Putin's people to be harmed (by the mess the generally created).

Not quite.

FTA: "There will be no evacuation while [Syrian President Bashar] Assad remains in power in Damascus," Korotchenko said in an interview Tuesday. "And it is clear now that Moscow will support Assad to the last."
