I kind of liked the Weeners on the page:

[GeorgeBoy]

This all could have been averted if the baby had its own eagle.

Trebuchet-Farker: Something just doesn't look right with the dive and swoop... too smooth or something... I'm going with fake.

That's what tipped me off too. I'm going to agree with the FAKE party poppers.

Additionally, a quick run through Sibley's doesn't show any North American raptor with the distinctive white patches on the top of the wing shown here. A juvenile golden eagle has patches, but not at the wrist where these are shown, and the wing shape looks wrong.

Its an amazing video.

Lt_Ryan: calbert: Wikipedia states that it was only a myth that eagles stole children.

I hope you smarmily pulled up wikipedia and edited that they DO steal children if capable, and linked to the video.

Happy Hours: WTF is wrong with you people who think it's funny? Amazing? Sure. Scary? Yes. Fake? Perhaps, I'm no expert on pixels either, but funny it is not.

Raptors are perfectly capable of picking up small animals and a baby is nothing but a small animal to them. It's no different than a rabbit, a cat, a gopher or whatever. It's made of meat and meat is food.

If it's fake that's a nice touch filming the ground and not getting a perfect shot. I've been fooled by fake videos before, but this looked real.

Happy Hours, not so happy.

2012-12-19 09:05:49 AM
The swoop and grab looks fake because the baby isn't really jerked in the manner it would be by a swooping eagle. Stupid pussy artist didn't want to hurt the baby. Way to commit to your craft, wuss.

Looks like it could have gotten away with a small dog. Should have gone to the dog park instead of the baby park.

alizeran: Happy Hours, not so happy.

It's just a marketing gimmick. I just get my beer for free whenever I'm at home. It just means I paid for it already, but it doesn't really make me happy.

This video is either real or it's fake.

If it's real then seeing a small child snatched by an eagle is not funny.
If it's fake then it's not really funny either.

Either way, the only good thing is the bird dropped the kid and it appears to have escaped being eaten without any injuries. That part is happy.

FAKE.

Golden Eagles don't live anywhere near Montreal.  Also, that isn't even a Golden Eagle.  It looks like a Black-Breasted Buzzard (Hamirostra Melanosternon), native to Australia.  On top of that, the bird's screech during the approach is that of a Red-Tailed Hawk.

Add to that the inordinate distance covered in the in the second or two that it banks to the right, not to mention the lack of concern displayed by onlookers.  Definitely shopped.  Not a totally bad job though.

Sad, Montreal media is saying it is a fake should have known birds weren't declaring war.... yet.

The lack of large wounds from having huge eagle talons grabbing the baby seems a little suspect.

Yup. Watch this video of little peregrine falcons and what they can do. Then ask yourself if that baby would have survived a giant farking eagle's claws.

One need only reflect upon the amount of people who were so quick to believe this video to imagine why it'd be so easy to fool the world on a larger scale. Not saying it happens, but this is your answer. Watched this go viral this morning and for every non-believer, there were 10 believers who simply could not accept that it's a fake. Was fairly depressing to witness, as these things are every time they happen.

CSB:

We were staying at a B&B in rural Washington, and at breakfast one of the proprietors told us the story of a big storm that blew through the town a few years back, knocking over a tree that had a huge bald eagle's nest in it.

After the storm blew out, many in the town wanted to inspect the nest, because, hey, giant eagle's nest!

Littered in with the feathers, bones and other debris were dozens of small pet collars.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiit.

I pegged that as fake starting at about 6 seconds in. I was already full-on "BULLSHIAT" before the kid was even in the shot. I don't care how amazing any bird is, none of them can flaunt the laws of physics and make a fast, accelerating, flat turn like that.

Thank you, science.

TY Zenzizi. This is french and says its a hoax. Also it blames the students and not the "hoax the internet" exam... ;)

If something weird from Montreal goes viral around Chrismast, please disregard it going forward. It was a good one though. Made me believe...

Not even an eagle... the shadow comes and goes... baby falls up for a moment... bird lacks enough lift based on the wing frequency... the list goes on and on.
