(ESPN)   Rex Ryan decides to bench Sanchez, start McElroy, and keep Tebow involved in the offense, which is kind of like playing "The Lady, or the Tiger?" with three doors and three tigers   (espn.go.com ) divider line

This story's been submitted a dozen times already, but that's a terrific way to sum up this quarterback situation.

I was wondering why he didn't start in the last debacle.

I mean it wasn't pretty but he was a winning QB.

I don't know if they are on the schedule but I would like to see Tebow start against the Lions just for LULz.

The game didn't turn truly laughable until right by the end, at which point most people were in bed.

But I agree, the Gruden taking a shiat thread didn't need to happen.

Rex Ryan decided? At this point I doubt Rex could successfully coach a Pop Warner team.

If I were a Jets fan at this point I would be happy if the team just declared next year was a rebuilding year, and start looking for Sanchez' replacement. And fire who they need to.

2012-12-18 11:42:52 PM
Why doesn't Rex Ryan give the people what they want? It would be a ratings bonanza. Personally, I think Ryan is afraid Tebow will win.

Tebow! Tebow! Tebow

Better yet, start McElroy, put Sanchez on the roster as a backup QB and run Tebow as a fullback with the occasional use of options, direct snaps and move him out to the tight end depending on the situation.

If it wasn't for Tebow, the Jets failures would be as meaningless as the Jaguars, Chiefs and Cardinals failures this year. Gotta love the guy just for the sheer power to attract that kind of attention in a nothing role.

Rex is simply mad because his guy didn't win and there's no way he's going to cave to call the people who thought from the beginning he should.have played Tebow. He probably even blames Tebow on the whole meltdown and this is his petty revenge.

I just can't see switching to McElroy as a rational decision after you've proclaimed Tebow you're #2 guy all year long.

Hmmm...

"He had, obviously, a poor day," Ryan said.

So, a bad day is 6 picks, apparently 5 is just a poor day. Full Dirty Sanchez even.

I really want to see McElroy win, both to piss off Jets fans that Ryan didn't do so earlier, plus for the added bonus of improving the Chargers draft placement as well as be another nail in the coffin of AJ Smith's career.

On second thought, I really hope the Jets hire AJ Smith next year.

Jets absolutely deserved all this negative attention since their most recent loss. Their nose dive into shiattyness is more than noteworthy, even on a national stage. Fark them.

Would it be even more entertaining if McElroy had to come out of the game and Tebow went in, scored the winning touchdown, and still demanded a trade?

That would actually be good for the Jets, because then they would actually be able to get something of at least a little value in a trade.
Right now, I can't see any team willing to give up much more than a broken JUGS machine for Tebow.

Actually, I'm gonna disagree with you on this. Tebow was just sort of a sideshow. Sanchez was highly touted when he entered the league & has been mediocre, even at his very best.* Super-high draft pick. He was supposed to be 'the guy.' This season, he has shown his awfulness to everyone, even people like me who kind of don't pay attention to the AFC. Sure, you need a team around you to really go anywhere, but I'm not sure anyone could save him.

*After writing this paragraph, I looked up his numbers and I will admit right here & now in the very same post that I was freakin wrong. He's always been terrible. Geez. He's bad & he makes everyone around him bad.

It's their own fault for drafting a USC QB.
Remember, when you need a quarterback, look for the SEC Seal of Quality. Accept no substitutes or imitations!

If I were an NFL GM I'd offer a domestic beer and a small popcorn for Tebow. Only a fool would turn it down.

It's not like there's an endless supply of Jest articles out there. They only have Tebow, Sanchez, and Ryan all in the biggest media...

I'll see what I can find.

Could you imagine the absolute media circus if Rex Ryan named Tebow the starter on Week 16? ESPN would have to move the game to Christmas Eve for a MNF miracle gift.

I'd offer a fourth round pick and make him a TE.

INeedAName: I'd offer a fourth round pick and make him a TE.

He can't block worth a crap (he plays punt blocker as a decoy for a fake punt toss), he hasn't been trained to reflexively "box out" the way TE's are trained nowadays (thanks Tony Gonzalez!) and who knows how good he can catch.

While he may have excellent athletic ability, he hasn't been trained for this position. I'm not saying he couldn't succeed at it, but it's about like having a lead guitarist switch to bass guitar. He can technically play the notes, as the strings and frets are identical to the 4 lowest strings on a guitar, but he needs a LOT of practice before he really understands how to play the instrument like a bass player.
