No, Southerners wanted slaves to breed because it was profitable which is why they didn't kill their investment. Hitler simply wanted to prevent breeding from happening.

So I have words to describe your process. They would be "nonsensical" or sometimes "dumb."

So you really don't know anything about the failures of Reconstruction do you?

I'm deeply versed in it. Pretty much every difficulty in the south since reconstruction can be traced back to the Union's failure to eradicate rebel sentiment through the south. Do you suppose Nathan Bedford Forrest's reanimated corpse would have started the KKK if Grant had hung him like he should?

Do you have any factual arguments you'd like to make, or are you just going to throw around innuendo and truthieness?

It is pretty funny that you have a different opinion on how Reconstruction went than basically every historian out there. If Lincoln had not been assassinated things would have gone much smoother. But he was and people took it out on the Southern states.

And no... Zombie Forrest would not have come back from the grave... but it isn't like he was the only person that made the KKK.. others would have taken their places and probably more of them.

Sooo... what you got is what you think might have happened based on.... nuthin.

Got it.

But keep being retarded with your view of how it all happened.

Well, I'm starting from what actually *did* happen, so I'm two steps ahead of you, professor.

I am starting from what did happen... just not with your stupid "if we just killed them all it would have been better" stupidity. Try reading a few books about what actually happened and stop being such a dillhole.

Yes. By taking up arms against their current country. That, by definition, is treason.

You know how i know you havent taken more than high school history? The independently governed states of the union did not belong to a country that had the power to dictate laws in each state. When that central gov't decided it did, the south said, "hey, it was fun, but we no longer want to be a part of this union." The North said, "no, fark you, we are going to stay together and we will kill you in order to force you to submit to our laws." The North destroyed the American experiment when it won the civil. What the South did was not treason and more than if you were part of a club and decided to leave becasue you didnt like the changes in policy. I'm from the midwest so i don't have any hard feelings about this; from a nuetral standpoint, the North was wrong it what it did

Well, I'm not sure I agree with your thesis but a part of me wishes that Lincoln would have just let them go.

I live in GA, I don't need Daily Kos to explain the South to me. Let 'em think you are and be ready for some awful comment about Obama or a racist joke.

That's almost as brilliant as showing up to war without shoes.

Your precious Southern Heritage is little more than a history of vicious hatefulness and ignorance. Piss on it.

At the end of the movie, I realized that about 2/3 of the people had left.

They know that but the Conservative needs confrontation and conflict in the same way ordinary people need food and water. Hell, they even make their vehicles a confrontation. God forbid they should go to the store without taking at least one opportunity to enrage a liberal with a sticker pointing out that Obama is One Big Ass Mistake for America. Still doesn't make any sense. That decision was related to black armbands protesting the Vietnam war and wasn't actually reached until 1969.

RTFA. It happened in December 1965. It took 4 years before SCOTUS ruled against the school district and set nationwide precedent.

I *did* RTFA and I was already familiar with Tinker. If that was what subby was referencing they could have done a better job of it. If you are subby then perhaps you could just say as much.

Still don't think the headline makes much sense except in the broadest of possible ways.

/baby wrangling for a few hours and the thread filled up

2012-12-18 09:41:07 PM

Gdalescrboz: Well, northerns tend to rewrite history on this subject.

The Vice President of the Confederacy said it was mainly about slavery, in 1861, in a public speech. Then he doubled down on it in a written "What I really said" article right afterward, which read, in part:

"Slavery was without doubt the occasion of secession" ... "The relation of the black to the white race, or the proper status of the coloured population amongst us, was a question now of vastly more importance than when the old Constitution was formed. The order of subordination was nature's great law; philosophy taught that order as the noraml condition of the African amongst European races. Upon this recognized principle of a proper subordination, let it be called slavery or what not, our State institutions were formed and rested. The new Confederation was entered into with this distinct understanding. This principle of the subordination of the inferior to the superior was the "corner-stone" on which it was formed. I used this metaphor merely to illustrate the firm convictions of the framers of the new Constitution that this relation of the black to the white race, which existed in 1787, was not wrong in itself, either morally or politically; that it was in conformity to nature and best for both races. I alluded not to the principles of the new Government on this subject, but to public sentiment in regard to these principles. The status of the African race in the new Constitution was left just where it was in the old; I affirmed and meant to affirm nothing else in this Savannah speech."

How are the northerns rewriting history, again?

snowjack: Gdalescrboz: Well, northerns tend to rewrite history on this subject.

We had General Forrest Middle School. Emma Sansom High School's band uniforms had the Confederate flag on them; they were the Rebels. Their mascot was a Confederate soldier, IIRC.

Link

Emma Sansom High School sits boarded-up and abandoned like the other two city schools (including mine). There's now a hugenormous high school that serves the whole city. Alas, no more "Rebels".

Jiminy Christmas. The prose in that link was so purple I thought I'd see a paragraph about throbbing members straining at oh-so-constricting laces.

Land sakes! I do believe I have the vapors!

bluewirenut: atomic-age: bluewirenut: Funny, I went to Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio. Their football mascot was a rebel soldier that ran around with the Battle Flag, use to think it was called the Stars and bars but, now I know. Only went there for a year , army brat, just thought it was kind of weird to have a school named after a guy who wasn't even a citizen till the late 1970's or early '80s.

As far as the flag goes, my two cents, I look at it as a badge. Tells me there're with stupid. Most I know that fly the flag are racist cept one. He is and old friend from childhood and was a sergeant in the US Army. He was station in Afghanistan or Iraq and his units' commander said not to fly the USA flag over the base. So to show his balls he ran up the Battle Flag. He is Black.

Not sure what is up with Robert E. Lee High School. Could have fallen off the face of the earth for all i know.
on a side note , due like the link. did not know this story. high five to ya

One more stupid Confederate tricks tale, and I'll shut up.

I have actually seen a case of a Southerner named Roberty. This solves the problem of how to name your child for the Glorious Fallen One if your last name is not Lee: Roberty Lee (Last Name).

Yes, really.

twistofsin: Really, so if it has nothing to do with race now come I have never ever in my life seen a southern black man displaying a confederate flag?

because you're blind/you're not looking hard enough/it clashes with your preconceived notions, so you ignore it.
