Send me 20 bucks right now and I'll give some to charity as well. What a great idea!

I never fall for these guilt trip advertising schemes.. It's great and all you built a game but don't advertise via starving children. Want to help? HELP! Don't make us buy shiat that wouldn't sell otherwise first..

Well, we could all go out and by a game so that a company can donate a three-cent bowl of rice or gruel to some starving African kid. Or we could pass on the game and send %50 directly to Stop Hunger Now, so that they could give a bowl of rice or gruel to 1,000 starving African kids for each donation.

Real altruism vs marketing. Can you tell the difference?

20 bucks for a game and the best they can do is one lousy meal? According to the Stop Hunger Now website those meals cost all of .25 cents each. Real generous there guys!

Exactly. I had to read that twice to make sure I was actually seeing one single meal being bragged about.

This is going over about as well as Rob Reid begging for votes on GoodReads

If someone actually wanted to do something like this, wait for the next Humble Bundle to come out. You usually get 6-8 games, you can pay whatever you want and designate how much goes to the charity and how much the company receives.

Full Disclosure: I work for Frogdice! :)

Haters: Go ahead and unload. I can take it. I'd rather be loved than flamed, but I'd rather be flamed than ignored. So... thanks I guess.

Cynics: Yes, it would be even more altruistic if we just donated or worked with a charity behind the scenes and didn't attach it to a promotion. Of course it would. But its not mutually exclusive. We already do stuff like that - mostly local. The post wouldn't start with "Drew's friends at Frogdice" if Drew thought we were a bunch of douchebags.

We didn't initiate this idea. We were contacted by a charity group to do this. It sounded awesome, so we did it. I'd love to see more game companies do cool stuff like this, and a lot of them do. Humble Bundle is a great example of that.

Especially in light of recent events, more people need to see that gamers are regular folks and a lot of them are good people! And charities like doing promotions like this as well so they can reach out to different communities. Its not just about the money. So yeah, we're using each other, but we're doing so in a completely open, honest, and up front manner.

Gamers: Those of you who try out the game, Tower of Elements, I hope you like it. We are a small indie studio here in Lexington, KY trying to grow. This was our first game using the Unity toolset and engine. We hope to make a sequel that builds off this with even more content, gameplay, and art. Your feedback is welcome to contribute to that.

I'm glad some folks like the promo code. For people who don't, I made another 50% off promo code for Fark readers: BOOBIES.

Enjoy!

Thank you. :)

By the way, Tower of Elements is completely DRM free. Buy it once, install it as many times as you want on as many computers as you want, share it with your family, no client, no internet check, nothing.

If you hate the game, my wife was the lead designer. Its her fault! (j/k it would be all of our faults)

If you think we're huge selfish jerks and we suck, lash out in an act of internet rage by putting it up on the Pirate Bay or something. Show us who's boss! I'd rather you didn't, but I can't stop you.

No, but that's a neat looking game. That appears to be pure tower defense with a bit of RTS.

Tower of Elements is mostly match 3, with tower defense and RPG elements enhancing it.

ALSO: My wife got mad at me for making the BOOBIES promo code. So I made a third Fark.com 50% promo code for Duke lovers that hate Boobies: SHARPKNEES

1. We're supposed to believe Drew has friends?
2. I don't play games. I'm a farking adult.
3. How about a 50/50 donation thing. Don't want a game. Would like to donate to hungry kids & that farking soup kitchen that Mitt Rmoneys girlfriend dooshed over during the campaign. That $16K is not going to last forever and dooshbags like me feel teh need to donate money at Christmas because I'm such a giant doosh all year round. 50% kids 50% kitchen. I got your game right here, tough guy.

Cam, Drew thought FarkTV was a good idea. He thinks Paul and Storm are funny. He likes the Red Sox, FFS. Frankly, his judgment is clouded by drink far too often for you to hold him up as a reliable endorsement, especially to people who hang out on his website. So don't try the whole "Drew approves of this post" routine, we all know that endorsements like this are either because you are a personal friend, because he was drunk, or because you paid him, not because whatever you are doing is noble or positive. Which it isn't. It is actually pretty scummy using the misfortune of others as a marketing tool.

I just wanted to pop back in here and say THANK YOU to all the people who bought the game and/or downloaded the demo. The response has been awesome and I cannot thank you all enough.

I've been a casual reader of Fark since at least 2005 and I never thought there's be a post here about something I was a part of.

As I said before, we are a small studio so getting the word out about what we are doing is very tough. We really, really appreciate it. I hope you are enjoying Tower of Elements!

I also appreciate the comments so far in this thread, whether they are they positive, negative, sarcastic, or some combination.

I welcome feedback on our games, this charity partnership, or how we do things in general. We've always maintained a really close relationship with our players and we value their feedback enormously. Feel free to contact me here, email (address is on our website at frogdice.com), or twitter (@frogdiceinc).

Balchinian: I'm sorry you feel that way. I disagree with your assumptions but I won't bother arguing or trying to change your mind.

From the tone of your post I can only guess you had trouble with the level 40 boss. The Goblin Wizard is indeed challenging. The way he cackles at you when he teleports around can be annoying. It reminds me of that stupid dog in Duck Hunt that taunts you when you miss. ARGH! I'm angry just thinking about him... laughing... always laughing... He haunts my dreams...

Hello. My name is Leon and I live in South Sudan. I am 7 years old. Thanks to this marketing campaign which resulted in you playing "coin n carry", a collection of generic minigames such as bejeweled and tetris that any damn fool could find for free, yesterday my brothers and I got to eat food. Thank you white sahib! You are kings to my people.

And you think my assumptions are off? You are blinder than I thought. I didn't play your game, nor would I. I think you are sleazy and shameful. There is no way I would support you taking advantage of someone else's plight by buying this game.

Just what assumption of mine do you disagree with? The assumption that it is wrong to use starving children as marketing leverage? Fark you, you are a despicable asshole.

Was sort of a special level of inflamed horse penis comment. It kind of removed any lingering doubt that may have remained in my mind that this is bullsh*t.

starlost: If you would rather buy Tower of Elements through Big Fish, great! Here's the Link. Getting it directly from us has the pretty large benefit of no DRM. So its a trade off decision.

Balchinian = Fished in. Did the hook hurt much as you swallowed it?

Muthaship: So it wasn't obvious I was kidding around with him? What's the point of responding seriously to someone who doesn't understand why companies and charities do partnerships like this. It benefits all sides - including the people the charity helps - equally or else they wouldn't do the partnership. This isn't rocket science. Its video games and charity.

As I already mentioned, the charity group approached me. Not vice versa.

I realize on the internet its super k3wl to be hyper cynical and hate on everything with the most clever and glib quip possible, but not everyone out there is an evil monster.

If any of you are in Lexington or ever visit, drop me an email and you can come visit our studio and meet our team. I promise we don't have a demonic altar where we sacrifice babies to the consumer god Mammon.

LOL! Keep it coming. I feast on the angry tears of internet trolls who think they know everything. NOM NOM NOM.

What I really wonder though is why are you are so full of hate? Does this time of year make you bitter about the pony you didn't get when you were a youngster? Did you shoot your eye out with an Official Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot range model air rifle?

There, there, Balchinian. There, there.

The match-3 selection controls need work, Cam. They're very, um, dicey. Maybe even frog dicey.

Game has potential, but the rough selection / deselection of elements is a killer for me.

DragonIV: If you can email me (frogdice at frogdice dot com) details or even post on our official forums, I definitely want to debug whatever issues you are having with rune selection. The feedback we have received so far has been that our match mechanics are extremely smooth. We are one of the rare match 3 games that supports moving runes even during cascades, so rock solid rune/match mechanics is a top priority.

Mike Sass: That explains a lot. Thanks.

Why is it that whenever I read the words "Drew's friends", I always get the same feeling in my gut that I do when I read an obituary that says the dead guy was "a friend of Bill W."?
