Those poor bastards. For 349 days a year, it's the best football team ever assembled - WHY DOES THE NFL KEEP SCHEDULING THEIR GAMES ON THOSE OTHER 16 DAYS?!?!?!

The problem with Sanchez is he's too nice a guy. He doesn't want the opposing safeties and corners to have bad games, so he gifts them a pass or two each game.

If Sanchez is ever going to succeed in the NFL, he has to ditch his clean-cut, nice guy image. He needs to get dirty.

To be fair, 4/5 of the O-line is fairly good and the defense has some very talented players. The receivers stink (except for Holmes), the running backs are medicore, and Sanchez is absolutely terrible. If the Jets had someone mildly competent at QB they would be a playoff team. And I hate the Jets and their coach who can't stop whining.

As annoying as Rex can be, am I wrong in thinking that he's not doing a particularly bad job? I mean, the QB is horrible and they're too invested in him to make a change, their best player has been out for weeks, the defense is old, there's barely any talent on offense, etc. I'd put it more on the GM than Rex.

Yes, the receivers suck. But I don't see how you can say the offensive line is good. Maybe they have decent names, but it's almost every play Sanchez takes 3 steps back and chucks it because the defense is already in his face. O line has not been getting the job done (maybe partly the coaches' fault, idk). I don't think Sanchez is bad at all. It's the other 10 players on offense that need to be replaced. But it's typical in the NFL to channel all blame to the quarterback and head coach. Look at the Eagles - Vick has sucked this year but the O line is just as much to blame. The Eagles will dump both Vick and Reid at the end of the season, just like the Jets will can Ryan and trade Sanchez.

The biggest issue seems to be that the owner, coach, and GM all appear to be on different pages with respect to the team philosophy. My guess is that the GM gets the boot, and the new GM will want to bring in his own coach, who in turn will want to bring in their own QB. Process may take a couple years to play out, though.

From an ESPN Insider Article looking at ProFootballFocus Discussions of Offensive Lines:
The underrated -- New York Jets

...this unit is being made a scapegoat. They've gotten better and better since moving on from Wayne Hunter, with Austin Howard making up for some pass-protection problems with some good work in the run game. The real problem is that when they do allow pressure, their quarterback (Mark Sanchez) is so bad at dealing with it that it makes the pressure stand out that much more. As it is they've allowed only 97 combined sacks, hits and hurries -- seventh fewest in the league.

Sanchez sucks. Just watch the replay on NFL.com from yesterday's game. Most of the interceptions are passes he floated up for grabs. No one will take Sanchez in a trade as they owe him an astronomical amount of cash to be a replacement level QB. Expect him to either start or be the backup next year.

FreakinB: As annoying as Rex can be, am I wrong in thinking that he's not doing a particularly bad job? Well, the players drafted while Rex is there haven't panned out too well and that hurts, but his defense hasn't really been too bad. As odd as it seems, Mangini brought in alot of talented players that defense. The offense has sucked the life out of the Jets and, in the process, made all of Rex's bluster embarassing. As someone who isn't a Jets fan, I'd rather they get rid of him so I can stop listening to/reading about him but I don't think he is the problem with the Jets.

This is probably valid. I'm starting to wonder if maybe Mangold is a bit overrated. Opponents seem to get a lot of pressure up the middle and some of that has to be on the center. Ferguson is very good, though, and I think the team does an solid job with edge rushers overall.

Even then, though, it's kind of hard to sort out what is the line's fault and what is the QB's fault. Opponents send a lot of bodies after Sanchez because the tape tells them he can't beat the blitz. A good QB will know where the hot read is and occasionally torch the defense after a three-step drop. If he does that successfully, he won't see as many blitzes in the future.

For next year, my guess is Sanchez spends a year on the bench and then gets cut. I don't see him having any trade value, even if he radically restructures his contract.

I very seriously doubt he'd be willing to restructure. I think he knows he's done as a starting QB and will try to milk every last penny out of what he's going to get before he starts collecting backup money in Arizona or whatever shiathole he ends up in.

The only reason why I'd give him a chance is that he wasn't coached by the same idiot (Pete Carroll) as Sanchez, Matt Lenhart or Carson Palmer. But I don't think Barkley will be good, either.

I mean, not to be a dick or anything, but considering that Carroll got Heisman-winning and national-championship-winning seasons out of those QBs, and then those same QBs failed after leaving (in one case, against Carroll's advice), blaming Carroll's "idiocy" for their failures is... well, I'll be slightly nicer about it than Carroll was to Whisenhunt, but man.

Can you honestly say that Pete Carroll developed a NFL ready QB at USC? Palmer was the closest he got to doing so and he's only had 2 good years, at best?

Success at the college level doesn't mean they'll have a great career in the NFL. Want proof? Look at Sanchez's backup last night.

Which was a huge mistake. McIlroy had saved the Jets season earlier and Ryan has him not dressed and ready to get into the game last night -- Kay was grilling Ryan on that and Ryan kept running around in circles.

For a coach known for talking a lot, he said nothing during his interview but a bunch of weak excuses and avoiding to give answers.

His job when he was a college coach was to win college football games, and he was incredibly good at that, one of the best in my lifetime. Now his job is to win NFL football games, he's doing that pretty well, and by the way, he has a rookie quarterback who is improving by leaps and bounds every week and is now easily an NFL-ready QB.

And Palmer, by the way, was an excellent NFL QB who was never the same after a freak injury. Sanchez, again, left against Carroll's advice and might have been a better pro with more than one college football season under his belt. Leinart appears not to have the requisite work ethic once he jumped to the NFL. What can you do?

As for "look at Sanchez's backup last night": are you saying that because Tebow was a good college QB and a bad pro QB, Urban Meyer is an idiot?
