Now hold on a minute; that's just not true. They're the party of old, white, straight, angry conservative men.

No they aren't, they are only straight in public. Get one into an airport restroom and you'll have more of a gay old time than Fred and Barney.

It's not gay if they're in denial!

"One option: create an outside group, funded by unlimited contributions, to target this growing problem. Gillespie and Karl Rove are among those who have pushed the concept of doing more and doing it fast."

Mittens' corpse isn't even cold and Rove's already angling for more of those sweet, sweet contributions. Personally, if I'd screwed over a bunch of pissed off billionaires I'd try to keep my head down for a while.

Because in Karl's warped narrative, its because the billionaires didn't give enough.

I'm a white, straight, and likely fiscally conservative man, but I'm not bigoted, close-minded, fear mongering, uneducated, and selfish.

2012-12-18 12:28:48 PM
well they keep trying so hard to present themselves as diverse, hell the whole RNC was a giant diversity soap opera of bullshiat.
but they still only trust the old white angry guys with the wheel.
'we are done with you until the next photo op diversity hires, dont say affirmative action never helped you, now go back to the shadows and let the big boys run this'

Did the rest of the GOP immediately respond by saying, "no sweat--we never talk about diversity"?

Well said. The problem is not with their demographics -- it's their belief structures. Bill Clinton was as white and straight as they get, but he was able to relate to people. The current crop of republicans, regardless of gender or color, has no concept of how to deal with anyone who isn't, well, themselves.

More like trip over an intern's wang and fall out (of the closet, of course). And he'll be the one that just made the most passionate anti-gay speech the week before.

2012-12-18 12:39:59 PM
Not a new issue. I remember Daily Show coverage of the election 8 years ago, and the RNC was well aware of this. There were like half a dozen black people in an audience of thousands, so guess who the cameras kept seeking out?

But they won that election. The modern GOP has never had a very diverse base, but it hasn't needed it. The reason they are blaming it for their loss now is that the alternative would be to accept that a lot of Americans are just plain fed up with their crap.

2012-12-18 12:42:57 PM
I think that "big tent" the Republicans are always talking about is in their pants.

2012-12-18 12:48:38 PM
Well, in defense of the Republicans, they had a black man as RNC Chair (Michael Steele) once, it didn't really change things...so why try that again.

2012-12-18 12:51:01 PM
Hey, I know. Let's write an article about something so obvious that the article isn't needed. Yeah, that's it.

2012-12-18 12:53:18 PM
The problem is that they're worried about the appearance of diversity instead of actual diversity.

2012-12-18 01:00:31 PM
Well...the minorities and whites who act like them apparently aren't capable of understanding just how great the GOP really is. Maybe they're too busy getting free stuff and mooching slut pills. Maybe they're to busy having anchor babies to self deport or perhaps they're out buying cadillacs with the free money they stole from us GOP types who actually have to work for a living ....

Uh what was I saying?... Oh right, we need to figure out why we aren't getting our message out. I'm sure if they really heard us they'd choose GOP every time!

It's not gay if they don't enjoy it.

The Why Not Guy: The problem is that they're worried about the appearance of diversity instead of actual diversity.

Just like the corporations they run! In 45 years of working, very little has changed at the top (above the glass celing) sure, a few more women, one or two minorities, but very, very few people of color allowed anywhere near the top of the corporate ladder or in the Boardroom! The only difference now is that blacks are now (mostly) treated better than hispanics, as all hispanics are considered illegal fence jumpers!

No shiat, Sherlock.

2012-12-18 01:08:13 PM
Yeah, how about instead of photo-op women you send to the Home Ec of committees, you start actually looking at your positions and making them realistic? I don't care about the number of women on your panel if that panel still claims it's unethical to keep employers from forcing women to adhere to the religious beliefs of a specific Christian sect.

2012-12-18 01:20:49 PM
Is there anything that reveals the amorality of today's conservative more than this? They don't give a shiat about minorities and women - they give a shiat about not getting elected, which is why this is going to fail. Contrary to their own propaganda, women and teh brouns aren't that stupid.

What the GOP is experiencing is what happens when a bunch of ideologically pure, unruly and inexperienced attention whores are suddenly given a national stage. And as has been mentioned before, the GOP only care about insulting potential voters, NOT actually changing their policy or world view.

The Evil That Lies In The Hearts Of Men: "Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and other prominent Republicans are privately warning conservatives to put a sock in it when it comes to arguments that turn off large swaths of voters."

No shiat, Sherlock.

The problem they've set up for themselves is that a lot of those arguments are being made to local voters in heavily gerrymandered districts. Voters who insist that their representative make these arguments that turn off large swaths of voters.

Basically the base they've cultivated is made up of crazies. You have to speak crazy if you want to get elected.
The Dems can just play a tape of a GOPer in dirthole Missouri appealing to his base and the entire GOP is tainted...or the GOP establishment can disagree and they'll lose the derp vote they rely on.

That's a shame.

Can't be emphasized enough. They don't view it as an issue of morals or ethics, but simply one of marketing. They're still going to be led by the same old, white, straight, conservative men - they're just going to ensure that they install enough minorities and women in inconsequential, but visible, positions to allow them to exploit those positions as a marketing ploy.

"Look, we're new and improved - heck, we got us a black guy in the Senate and a broad on a House committee!"

It really doesn't get more scumbaggy than watching the GOP figure out how to hide their principles, so that they can convince future generations to vote for them.

In some ways, you have to respect the teabaggers - sure, they're stupid, bigoted, sometimes evil, and easily led, but at least they're up-front about it. You know where you stand with a teabagger.

It's the rest of the GOP, the ones that felt it was OK to exploit teabaggers as long as it garnered votes, the ones that then tossed the teabaggers aside when they didn't garner enough votes, the very same ones who are now trying to court the folks they spent decades viewing as villains, that are the problem.

Because Jeb is one of only three "guiding lights" in the GOP that isn't a batshiat crazy racist?

"Rubio, Jindal, Bush" is the GOP's "Tinker to Evers to Chance" - a mantra meant to inspire awe, but dig any deeper than surface level, and you'll find 3 ho-hum guys who weren't the best of their times, let alone all-times.

// the fact that the US won't elect another Bush until my wrinkles get wrinkles is just icing on the cake

I was thinking about this the other day in the wake of a report that said GOP couldn't figure out why it's doing poorly with ethnic-American groups that "ought" to support GOP based on their traits, etc.

The problem is, these groups ALSO believe in the power and necessity of group action to solve and prevent problems - the "tribe," if you will. The GOP is COMPLETELY about individualism, to the point that it will scorn the "tribal" solution to a problem unless that problem is of a nationalistic nature, e.g. defense.

So, while one of these groups might value "bootstrappiness" and ambition, it doesn't value ONLY that. And that's why they're not marching like lemmings off the Republican cliff.

2012-12-18 02:40:08 PM
ftfa: Bobby Jindal, the new chairman of the Republican Governors Association, is the son of Indian immigrants. But in crude political terms, winning over Indian-Americans hardly goes to the heart of the demographic dilemma facing the GOP. That challenge centers on women, Hispanics, blacks, Asians and gays.

Um...

/not a fan of his. just sayin'.
//if "Oriental" is too un-PC a term now, you could just say "East-Asian-Americans", if that's what you mean

Nothing warms my heart more than watching the GOP die.

They want J.C. Watts to run the RNC but it is going nowhere and the only female chair was appointed. Sounds like the Republican leadership is looking to enact affirmative action.
