They should have invented gun powder first, or at least traded for it.

I was about go off on ducks thinking they have a heads up on world events, then I saw that he founded a humanitarian group that works in that region.

Good on him.

If and when the Congo attacks the USA, that would be a threat to our security.

I thought we had "people" that did this sort of thing.
Apparently we just use actors and rights groups to gather our data.

A wise use of resources now that I think on it.

Oh shiat, does this mean I'm going to be hearing about Kony again?

Three sentence summary of what's going on in Congo: The country hasn't had a stable government in years as various leaders are continually assassinated or overthrown in military putsches or coups. They're still fighting a civil war, a war against the Lord's Resistance Army (Kony) and a war against the leftovers from the war against Rwanda, while UN peacekeepers sit on their hands and only directly intervene to "protect civilians" which means approximately diddly. Meanwhile, the US and China are both interested in the massive rare earth deposits for electronics manufacturing, so we're constantly jockeying with each other by proxy and smuggling arms to "our side", but it hasn't risen to a full on proxy war quite yet.

I saw a documentary about that on PBS a few years back. I was amazed about what the hell he did. How he got chiefs to sign "treaties" and how basically it was his personal domain. Until a lot of his shenanigans came to light and his govt took control of it away from him.

Warfare in central africa really does not impact me in any measurable way. But honestly, knowing that 5 million people have been killed (as reported in a recent NYT story) makes me a sad panda.

I'm guessing Ben is going to sum up the security situation in the DRC with one word: "shiatty".

What's wrong with you, don't you know you're supposed to be focusing on the horrors committed by the government of Iraq Iran?

It's all very silly and unproductive. Wonder how the cliff 'thing' is going on.

The latter. Double-reversed myself into an error.

I couldn't give a sh*t less what that pretty-boy clown thinks, he doesn't get paid for his political prowess, he's a money-grubbing whore.
