nope not ironic

2012-12-18 06:56:18 AM
Irony would be more like if it turned out the shooter worked for a company that manufactured body-armor for children or something.

Oh, so we are going after gun manufacturers now. Got it.

Oh, is this like the argument that Debbie Wasserman Schultz has Swiss Bank accounts and is JUST LIKE MITT ROMNEY because one of the funds managed by one of her retirement plans invests in Swiss banking companies?

It makes sense actually. The more people who pay into the retirement system but don't make it to retirement age, the more money there is for the ones that survive.

More like how Wasserman-Schultz was biatching about how bad the American auto companies had it, and needed to be bailed out, then she gets in her BMW/Audi/Mercedes/etc... and drives away.

/She's a (D) coont anyway... , just like the other 'side' (R).

CalSTRS probably didn't know what exactly Cerberus was investing in, other than Reaper tech.

2012-12-18 09:18:42 AM
Yep. That gun walked right into that school and killed all those kids.
And it's the teachers fault! If they had not invested in a fund that bankrolled the A.I. chip that allowed the gun to become self-aware, thus taking out it's murderous ways upon mankind, those kids would be alive today.

Farking teachers and smart guns.

2012-12-18 09:19:16 AM
The killer also drove to the school in a HONDA. Who wants to join me in spearheading a HONDA BAN?? NO MORE HONDAS! HONDA CONTROL. If he ran the kids over would we be talking car control? No more cars?

2012-12-18 09:20:05 AM
On a more serious note, the money that CalSTRS put into Cerberus is likely invested in several different companies, not just weaponry. The pension fund put the money in the hands of Cerberus to invest and didn't pay attention to exactly where it was going which would be normal for a setup like this.

That's because owning a gun doesn't make you want to kill people. Being mentally unstable sometimes makes you want to kill people. Sometimes it makes you want to watch The View.

California also started the trend of closing mental hospitals to give crazy people more freedom, then not funding any sort of help short of jailing them after they commit felonies. Still, irony would not be the word I'd choose.

Actually there is a conspiracy there out there about a few gunman besides Adam Lanza. According to the medical examiner, all the kids were shot via an assault riffle. The assault riffle of Adam's was reported to be found in this car's trunk AFTER the shooting. Only yesterday did the media then change their story to say that the assault riffle was found at the school. Also, there are multiple reports that many more guns were found on site besides the three originally reported by the press.

There is footage of the camo-pants man running into the woods along with eye witnesses seeing him (the video shown). Also, the little kid from the above video says a man was placed in handcuffs.

Where are these men now? Why aren't the media reporting about these extra men?

2012-12-18 09:32:41 AM
I can see where this thread is going.

I'm gonna say no big deal. The company charged with investing for the teachers union invested in a company that is partially invested in a company that has one of many subsidiaries who makes rifles, one type of which was used to kill kids. No big deal. They didn't directly fund the killer or anything. In fact, I'd say it is a wise investment move as that subsidiary and the other subsidiaries in that company have shown steady sales growth over the past ten years. Of course, now the company that invests in the company with the subsidiaries is selling it's investments in said company, so as not to offend the teachers union, as their portion of ownership was worth less than the amount of money that the teachers union invests in the company that invests.

In summation, company, invest, subsidiary, no big deal, teachers, company sell investments, potatoe.

I have only a five funds to choose from with target retirement year balanced funds for the Thrift Savings Plan. Do I think there are so companies in those funds that I would not support if I could individually invest in? Probably. Do I truly have a choice if I want to participate in the TSP? Not really. Am I required to participate in the TSP? Nope. If I was a civilian employee, I probably would since there is an incentive to do so (i.e., matching funds). The headline seems a little stupid if you ask me. California doesn't manage their funds. They hire a company to do that.

If there had been a number of events in the past few years where people had driven cars into gatherings of people and killed large numbers of them, yes, I do think we'd be talking about some steps we could take to reduce that risk. Are you asserting that we would not?

Because the media hates sensational stories that let them drag coverage of tragedies out for days. They're like orange juice after brushing your teeth to them.

So much facepalm this week. Pass all the rules you want, society isn't going to suddenly become perfect. People need to realize that sometimes really awful things happen. Making scapegoats of peripheral things just absolves the wrongdoer of their deeds.

2012-12-18 09:35:59 AM
There's a point in here, though, that's pretty clear.

If you're not a fan of wars yet own stock Halliburton stock (or a fund that owns a chunk of Halliburton) for example, that's pretty hypocritical.

On some level, we're responsible with what we do with our money - and how we attempt to make it grow.

The point of my post was not to open a can of worms re which investments you should own. Only that if your investments don't reflect your values, you're a hypocrite.

2012-12-18 09:36:52 AM
Investment is a Jebus-given right that is the most sacredly, truly, patriotic thing, truly, that any patriotic sacred American patriot can sacred.

Unless you're a teacher.
