No.

What Texas and other states can do is propose the 28th amendment that dissolves the union or call a constitutional convention and attempt to force a vote on devolution. That is it, if they can't muster a enough votes in the House of Representatives, Senate, to overcome a presidential veto then they have to try and get 32 states to submit applications for a constitutional convention and get a 3/4 majority of votes at the convention.

Not likely to happen in the 21st century, but it could.

2012-12-18 10:42:41 AM
Let's let Texans have all the guns. Let's give guns to everyone in Texas. Let the police stop & search anyone and arrest anyone who is not carrying a loaded firearm: children, sex offenders, convicts, illegals, blind, mentally disturbed, mentally disabled, drunks...

And then they can say how well their Second Amendment experiment worked.

Until then, SHUT. UP. TEXAS.

Can Texans be murdered en masse by drug cartels crossing the border and thus improve the American gene pool? tl;dr edition: Yes.

2012-12-18 10:49:54 AM
Though it would be funny to see Texas do just that and watch them deal with even worse problems as a result. Think the Texas border towns are having problems with the Mexican cartels now, just wait until Texas no longer has the protection of the Federal Gov't behind it. It'll turn into the Wild West.

It would kindof undermine the entire existence of the country if someone left without extraordinary circumstances. Same reason the EU can't afford to let Greece leave.

Discharge Texans from the military.
cancel DoD contracts with Texas companies
Remove all U.S. military hardware from Texas
Post ads nationwide asking for people skilled in treating radiation poisoning to contact the U.S. government about work in states that border Texas and, with their permission, in Mexico near the Texas border.
Put up MASH units across the border from Texas.
Put all of our B-52's in Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Put three carriers in the Gulf of Mexico.
Transfer federal prisoners that are not Texans back to their home states.
Explain to the governors of Wyoming and Alaska that we will become very dependent on their states for domestic oil production in the near future. The east and west coasts will need to build some chemical factories.
Withdrawal the U.S. from the U.N. and Geneva Convention, explaining that in order to preserve the union, we will likely violate many international agreements.

Now, Texas, if you really have faith in Khali or Shiva or whatever beast you worship with your blackened, racist heart, vote on succcession.

It's not 1860 and we are not exactly Israel and Palestine. I think we could work out a deal and coexist peacefully.

Sure, tell them that they owe us their portion of the national debt, withdraw all Military forces and federally owned equipment of any kind, let them know they are entirely on their own for defense., inform them that any Texan caught working in the US without a Visa will be deported and seal the border to ensure that no drugs are smuggled into the US via the Independent Republic of Texas. If they prove themselves to be a stable country, we may allow them MFN status for trade in about 50 years or so.

Day 2, when the US comes in to recover its military property, would be the second best.

Day 5, when the trade embargoes and blockades are in full force, would just be the best.

Impeach the president and congress and begin the second American civil war. I'm not sure where this war mongering derp fantasy comes from, but buddy if that begins to happen you will have just fractured the union all on your own.

Yeah, but it's not like he's a mainstream politician or in any responsible position of government.

/We all know there's "only one way to be sure".

Texans themselves hate Perry more than you possibly could. He's not taken seriously. That shiat he said was years ago at some stupid Tea Party rally, anyway.

If you study our structure of government, the Railroad commisioner has as much power as the governor.

This will be his last term.

So, No. Nobody seriously discusses this in Texas. It's just not a reality. You guys can herp and derp all day about it if that meets some need you have, but I and all the people I know will just sort of scratch our heads and look at you like the "not this shiat again" guy.

As a resident of this state, I'll believe that when I see it. Until then, all I can do is hope.

I love how the video assumes that laws would have to be written to allow Texas to secede, otherwise there would obviously be a bloody war. If Texas seceded without permission, do you really think there would be bombing raids over Dallas and Austin? That there would be an invasion of tank divisions? Artillery bombardments? This is more of a fantasy than Texas seceding.

Why not? I wanna see how long they last without all that funding from states they hate.

Thanks. As a Texan of over 30 years, I am getting pretty damn weary of all this jibber-jabber about Texas secession. For most of my life, this was solely a topic of interest for racist Neo-Confederates and gun-nutty militia movements - in other words, the precursors to the Tealiban. By giving secessionists attention and wasting time listening to their ludicrous bleatings, we give them the illusion that there is merit to their simpleminded, absurd proposals.

When you say "this will be his last term," how do you mean? Is he retiring? Will a reasonable conservative primary him? Will someone even more batshiat right-wing primary him, then lose the election by way of superderp to a centrist Democrat? Do you think he's actually pissed off enough people that he'll just lose straight up against a Democrat?

Now, g0dammit, I BELIEVE in this country.

And i believe if we put our minds to something, there's nothing America can't accomplish, God willing.  This is the country that put a man on the moon and a black man in the White House -- who doesn't have to clean the toilets.  We can accomplish ANYTHING!

So if we all pull together, working as a team...

...and striving conscientously towards our shared patriotic goals...

..we can get Texas out of the United States by the end of this decade.

Seriously, we can do this. I know we can.  You just have to believe.
