FTA: Chaney also targeted two women he knew, sending nude pictures of one former co-worker to her father.

Screw the high fives. This dude was just weird.

Maybe. But it's not like he only did it once.

Prosecutors said Chaney illegally accessed the email accounts of more than 50 people in the entertainment industry between November 2010 and October 2011.

And seeing as how they said he could have gotten up to 60 years I'd say he's lucky.

The fact that he did it to 50 people makes me wish his sentence was at least a quarter century, if not more.

Sure, that's more than you'd get for armed robbery. But one shouldn't get a discount on their prison terms just because they were stupid enough to commit them in bulk.

It doesn't matter how many times he did it, it's still simple hacking. There was no violence or even threats of violence. It doesn't even say he stole any money. Someone should kick his ass for this for sure but to get more time than some violent offenders is kind of messed up.

Mugato: It doesn't matter how many times he did it

The law says otherwise

Mugato: There was no violence or even threats of violence.

Mental wounds can run as deep as physical ones. It appears that several of the victims are fairly farked up psychologically. People shouldn't dismiss them so lightly.

And playing Devil's Advocate here, I'd like to point out that one of the victims seriously contemplated suicide. Had they gone through with it, successful or not, it would have been an act of violence caused by the defendant.

Mugato: but to get more time than some violent offenders

Again, you're dismissing the number of offenses. He violated 50 people's lives. That shiat adds up. How it is any different than some dude who gets 50 parking tickets at $25 each versus the dude driving 20MPH over in a residential area who gets a $200 ticket? You shouldn't get a discount for being a repeat offender.

Hey look, some white armour. Let me put it on.

I appreciate attractive women as much as the next guy, especially ones like Scalett Johansson. But this guy deserves to be in prison. I don't know about the length of term, I guess that depends on a lot of factors like his multiple offending. It's a fundamental violation of privacy that should not be tolerated. And it doesn't have to be naked pictures, it could be things like financial data, or private emails.

FTA: The women, identified in court filings only by initials, wrote in letters to Otero that their lives have been irreparably damaged by Chaney's actions. One has anxiety and panic attacks; the other is depressed and paranoid. Both said Chaney was calculated, cruel and creepy....

Actress and singer Renee Olstead said in court Monday that she attempted to kill herself after Chaney leaked nude photos of her. She said she had never before considered suicide...

Aguilera said in a statement issued days before the sentencing that although she knows that she's often in the limelight, Chaney took from her some of the private moments she shares with friends...

He continued to pursue his victims after the FBI seized his computer, a factor Otero said warranted a harsher penalty.

He didn't just hack their e-mail and post pictures. The guy read their e-mail every day for years (he says he started in 2008 and was caught in 2011), he responded to e-mails pretending to be the celebrities, and even said he was happy he was caught because he couldn't stop himself.

Ten years in prison is just about right. Do you not think that psychological harm can be as bad or worse than physical harm? You seem to think it shouldn't factor into sentencing.

Scarlett isn't even 30 yet. Her career, with the exception of the Avengers franchise, doesn't seem to be on some comet-like trajectory. Given the proper amount of time, we would have seen her nude in some last ditch effort to resurrect her career around the time she's 34.

Poor guy, he just had to wait.

Well, I agree on principle, but hacking for titties isn't worth it. Whack off to fake nudes of Scarlett and pretend that she has the body of some 38FFF porn star if it's that important.

I could be wrong since TFA is light on details and I don't even have my GED in law from Fark U, but if he did the same thing to 50 people or so wouldn't he be guilty of multiple counts of the same charge resulting in the longer sentence? Much like someone who murders multiple people can receive multiple sentences?

I'll grant you that violent offenders should get more time, but considering the number of times this person hacked folks stuff and all the other stuff he did I'm actually kind of surprised he got off so light.

Dude pulled that shiat with 50 freaking people according to TFA. As I said in an above post, last I checked that made him eligible to be charged with 50 counts of whatever he was charged with. He could have been charged x months or days or whatever for each charge. I could be wrong on that, but that's my interpretation of things. Yeah it sucks harder criminals get less time for worse crimes, but how often are they getting busted for multiple counts of those worse crimes?
