The Lions are sloppy, undisciplined, violent, and monumentally underperforming. Whose fault is that?

Can't they sacrifice a goat or some chickens at midfield in the off season or something? Cursed team is cursed.

The ownership of the Lions is the only thing that has remained consistent over the course of their losing history. That's the obvious problem.

After last season, I thought they were improving...this season...not so much...I think it's time to replace him.

Who's fault is it that the secondary is hurt, their Offensive Line is god-awful and they have had no running game since they beat Barry Sanders into submission with their awfulness?

Cause they got a QB. They got a decent enough WR core. They have a talented D-Line. Their LB's are serviceable.

Schwartz isn't just an ineffective leader, he actively mismanages the game. Throwing a challenge flag that led to 7 points on Thanksgiving and not watching the play clock yesterday.

Ford needs to sell the Lions to ownership that actually enjoys football.

On November 22, 1963 William Clay Ford, Sr. purchased a controlling interest in the team for $4.5 million. During his ownership tenure, the Lions have won just one playoff game.

Linehan is goes than Schwartz won't be far behind. No other GM would put up with such poor coaching of a very talented team.

They had a running game with Best, but he currently can't count to potato.

But seriously, that offense is suspect. Stafford's completion percentage is atrocious, and that big bad D-line seems to be softening.

They had a slasher. Best was solid, and could catch out of the backfield.

When was the last time they could line up and get 3 yeards when they needed it by running on third down?

Stafford's completeion precentage is indicative of him being handed his ass all the time.

Being a Lions fan for decades now, I do not even make excuses anymore for their performance. I just simply say "C'mon man, its the Lions", that seems to do well or at least it has worked for me the last decade or so. Yeah, I considered those injuries flukes. He is geting beat down week after week these last 2 years and he hasn't had something like that take him down since.

I am not completely letting him off the hook. I am suggesting that O-Line is bottomo 5 in the league awful and that WILL affect how your QB plays.

I think their only new bright spot has been Mikel Leshore in goal line sets. That guy just has a nose for what's needed in the endzone. Other than 3 yards in a goal line set.... yeah not much else.

There are going te be a ton of coaching vacancies at the end of the year. If you were a top talent coach and you had opportunities in places like Philly, San Diego, or Charlotte would you really consider Detroit? Not if you like winning or non-Siberian type weather.

Yes, Millen was bad. He should have been the low point of this franchise. However, once they fired him, they hired his assistant. Mayhew hasn't been near as bad as I'd assumed, but it is simply inexcusable to keep anyone associated with the 0-16 fiasco. To lose 16 games in the NFL, you should assume that even the towel boy is incompetent.

fark the Lions, fark the Fords, fark Mayhew. Schwartz never had a chance, but fark him too. It'll take more than firing a coach to fool me again, Ford.

As stated all over this thread, Ford is the key to their ineptitude. One playoff win in ten playoff appearances in forty-nine seasons of his ownership is all you need to know for why.

People who think Jay Cutler sucks need to have Christian Ponder quarterback their team. I will say that he knew he had no one to throw too before he showed up though. His O-Line when he came in was aging at BEST. So it's hard to feel bad for a guy who jumps in front of the bus and says "ow".

Now the flip side is those Bears fans suggesting he's a top 10 QB need to stop it too. His stats have been comparable in Chicago as they were in Denver.

Link

Thing is, those numbers are only acceptable if you actually DO something the playoffs. He has been in 2 games. One he looked great. Threw for over 200 yards and 2 TDS (also ran in 2 TDs). Then he laid the turd that was the NFC Championship game against the Packers. On NATIONAL TELEVISION *CALEB HANIE* looked more compitent then he did.

And that's it. 2 playoff games in 6 years. One outsanding, one god-awful. So he is not awful. He is frikin ADD.

I always root for teams that suck...obviously, I'm a Bears fan (though not a Cubs fan, thanks to my family).

Today I decided I needed a new hat. I bought a Raiders hat. I don't really like any other NFL teams besides the Bears, but I DO sympathize with other teams (Bills, Browns, and Raiders). I don't root for my city's team (Seahawks) and wanted a different west coast franchise to represent. I've always liked Oakland teams, to a degree, and there you have it.

The Lions are an absolutely perfect, poetic representation of Metro Detroit, which of course is why they are by far the most popular team in the area.

In Detroit, nothing fails like success, and nothing succeeds like failure.

I'm a big Jay supporter, but there are issues in his game he needs to work on.

First, he doesn't see the whole field; yesterday when he tried to throw into coverage for the TD, someone (Rodriguez?) was uncovered in front of the goal line.

Second, he just makes bad choices sometimes. He's so confident in his arm he thinks he can thread every needle. He needs to become wiser about throwing the ball away when there's nothing to get.

Now, one could argue that because he's been running for his life for four years behind this line, he's not had the opportunity to develop those skills in Chicago, but that's a chicken/egg argument.

My last issue with him is that when things go bad, he lets it get to him. THAT is something that he can work on, regardless of the talent around him.

All in all, though, I'm still glad Angelo traded for him. Put him behind a good line, give him a few good targets, and that should be more than enough to cover his mistakes and allow him to continue to develop.
