So Mr. Bank thinks to himself "uh oh, we need to stop people finding out about the Libor thing and stop these guys from testifying.... I know, let's train their children to shoot up some schools... that'll keep the story out of the news." Really?

FTA: Both men were to testify before the US Sentate (sic)

Slow down. Chew your food.

"For similar events on the magnitude of both Aurora and Newtown to hold a connection to one of the greatest financial scandals in the history of finance is astronomically slim in regards to coincidence. In fact, neither shooter had a history with firearm proficiency, and the outcome of each shooting showed an expertise many trained military personnel could not achieve."

Those are some pretty thin arguments.

I too am confused as to how this conspiracy was supposed to play out.

Is this like Fox News jumping all over the Petraus scandal with the "He was going to testify about Fast and Furious, but now he resigns due to this!" -- and then two days later mumbling an "oops... I guess he'll still have to testify"?

See, it will be years before Congress has the guts to call these people now - they're grieving. In the meantime, they will have a heart attack, or be in a fatal car accident...or so they want you to believe. They'll end up in the Caymans or wherever they go to hide with Ken Lay from Enron (you didn't think he died, did you?).

It is a fair question: just where did they get their training to be as skillful as a well trained soldier. Ditto for the Virginia Tech shooter.

Is it really that hard? If his mum was a 'prepper' no doubt she would have prepared him as well, shown him how to aim and shoot. In a school he would have been at close range, it's not like he sniped from half a mile away.

Yeah, shooting a .223 really isn't difficult. Almost no recoil to speak of, and they're designed to be easy to drop an empty mag and reload. Apart from the whole "unbelievably evil, utterly contemptible, inconceivably cruel" part that most people wouldn't be able to get past, the logistics of carrying out the execution of a class of 1st graders is pretty simple with the right weaponry.

I'm not going to fully understand this until Glenn Beck draws in on a chalk board then cries.

"The father of Newtown Connecticut school shooter Adam Lanza is Peter Lanza who is a VP and Tax Director at GE Financial.

GE Financial is not a LIBOR contributor, and (to my knowledge) has not been linked to the LIBOR scandal. Indeed, the only places linking the two are conspiracy theory sites linking these shootings to LIBOR.

The father of Aurora Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes is Robert Holmes, the lead scientist for the credit score company FICO.

Again, FICO has nothing to do with LIBOR.

Both men were to testify before the US Sentate in the ongoing LIBOR scandal.

[citation needed]

HSBC has already been fined $1.9 billion and three of their low level traders arrested.

HSBC was fined for money laundering, nothing to do with the LIBOR scandal.

He does live in Connecticut.

Diogenes: So how's Kevin Bacon figure into all of this?

James Kopp - assassin
1. James Kopp was the assassin of Dr. Barnett Slepian (1998). He was highly influenced by the film Matter of Choice (1988) with Gillian Anderson according to his Sentencing Statement.
2. Gillian Anderson was in Chicago Cab (1998) with Michael Shannon
3. Michael Shannon was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon

Michael Newdow - atheist
1. Michael Newdow had his case Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow heard before the Supreme Court (March 24, 2004) - Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was a member of the Supreme Court
2. Sandra Day O'Connor was in Gap-Toothed Women (1987) with Lauren Hutton
3. Lauren Hutton was in 54 (1998) with Arthur J. Nascarella
4. Arthur J. Nascarella was in In the Cut (2003) with Kevin Bacon

George Soros - hedge fund manager, financier
1. George Soros was a student of Karl Popper (he says that his investment strategies are based on a Popperian skepticism about the reliability of any one human belief)
2. There are references to Karl Popper in The Matrix series of movies (1999-2003) starring Keanu Reeves [The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003)]
3. Keanu Reeves was in Thumbsucker (2005) with Benjamin Bratt
4. Benjamin Bratt was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon

I think it's clear what is happening here, don't you?

This Newton-Aurora-Libor conspiracy theory is actually a dis-information plot headed up by the "CIA-controlled and NSA-sponsored nameless, faceless hacker group Anonymous."

What's fair is questioning your premise that they were as skillful as a well trained soldier. Its not like they utilized infantry tactics and called in air support. They sprayed defenseless civilians in enclosed areas. In the most recent one, they were killing elementary school kids and teachers. Clearly these guys were ready for military service. *rolls eyes*

Well... it's not like the entry requirements are all that stringent. There's plenty of jobs for people that can't shoot worth a damn.

Not to mention that with a week or two of training you can easily hit targets hundreds of yards away with an AR-15.
It's like comparing being able to get a hole-in-one to being able to sink a putt into any of a dozen holes all of which are a foot away.

I just lost $5, I swore the first conspiracy theories would be about President Obama planning these shootings so that he could, at long last, fulfill his unholy dream of robbing America of their guns through legislation.

Since he was cremated, and his person physician was the one who did the autopsy, we'll never know if he really died then or not.

I have no military experience, no training with anything other than handguns, but I'm pretty sure that given an AR-15, 100 rounds of ammunition, and a few rooms of 6 year-olds, I could probably manage to kill 20 of them.

Karac: Not to mention that with a week or two of training you can easily hit targets hundreds of yards away with an AR-15.

CSB: First real weapon I ever fired was an AR-15. Could barely hit a milk jug (1gal) from 25 feet (firing at a downward angle*, if it matters), but at the end of the day, I had a pile of shredded plastic.

It's weird to think it, but I bet I could wipe out a building full of running targets, even with a less accurate weapon (I'm thinking handgun, since they're lighter). No one has said how many shots were fired vs how many "hit", but with 26 victims, I'm guessing he fired at least 100 rounds. A very grisly thing to contemplate.

And no, I don't own any weaponry (unless you count my "assault-style" softball bat), nor are there any people I'd like to aim a weapon at.

*thank you Det. Greenly, for the onion bagel, cream cheese.

I have shot a real gun once in my life, my training consisted of the range instructor saying 'aim at the target and squeeze the trigger'. I was able to hit the target with suprizing ease. It's not rocket surgery...

Well put.

We're giving this Lanza turd far too much credit... "many trained military personnel could not achieve" my ass. He wasn't tactically clearing room after room in an opposed environment, sweeping corners, checking his six, blah blah blah. He was walking the halls of an unsuspecting elementary school. This freak, with the sole exception of the fact that he was deranged, had no advantage over your average military grunt on the battlefield.

If you've never used a weapon, take my advice; the only thing easier than firing one is not firing one, and not by much.

This last shooter belonged to a gun nut family, who trained him. The Aurora shooter wasn't trained, he was just firing uncontrollably at a large cluster of densely packed people. The only reason he didn't kill more was because of his inexperience and his gun jammed.

A friend of mine went half-apoplectic at Huckabee on FB. My response (typical in this situation, especially considering where I heard it):
"[Friend], a HS teacher of mine, a rabbi I respect far more for his example than for his knowledge of scripture, once told the class: 'Anyone who pretends to know god's reasons for anything is not only wrong morally, but spiritually as well.'

"Then again, fart noises hold more truth than The Huckster."

// I believe he said it in response to some similar bloviation about a different school shooting, or maybe OK City
// such a person has arrogance beyond comprehension to think they can "know" god's reasons, says he
// he added something about such a person being dangerous for the kind of frenzy they can create - intentionally or not

what skill? fired 100+ rounds at very close range in an enclosed space against targets that weren't shooting back No skill required really. And if reports today are true that this guy lacked the neural circuitry to feel pain, he probably also lacked the machinery to feel nervous or excited making the shooting that much easier

2012-12-17 03:43:04 PM
This would actually be a mildly interesting coincidence - but still just a coincidence - if not for the enormous tragedy involved.

Alaska's Lt. Governor went to that school.

It's obviously a message aimed at him by the Finance Industry.
