(MSN)   I wish I could tell you that Morgan Freeman made the statement about the Newtown shooting. I wish I could tell you that -- but Facebook is no fairy tale world. He never said who said it, but no one knew   (now.msn.com) divider line 44

And underneath that article, one with a Bunch of stupid featuring Victoria Jackson, must be a day that ends in "y".

Giving a mediocre statement celebrity gravitas is a time-honored tradition, and this is, of course, no different.

I just want to know what George Carlin has to say about it.

Here's a funny reply that Robin Williams made 20 years ago but it applies today.

Also, I believe Steven Wright is involved.

I consider Morgan Freeman America's grandfather. That would have found great coming from his lips.

Oh sure...he never made a statement, but I'm still the dick because I was compelled to make the Titty Sprinkles comment the way the internet has conditioned me to do so. No one ever blamed the dog for drooling when a bell was rung....

I want to say how weird it is to me that Newtown is famous or infamous now. It was always just the place with the annoying flagpole in the middle of the damn road. That and the cheap movies at the town hall.

I never head about that until now. After reading it, it doesn't look at all like something Morgan Freeman would say. It's not dignified enough.

If this is the worst of the fabrication of mythology about this then I'd say we're doing better than the usual national tragedy.

The root problem behind these shootings never was fame, and the idea it is is one way people can minimize the impact as well as avoid addressing real issues like access to mental health care and access to heavy combat weapons in the civilian population.
This is spot on and totally the issue ditto with Virginia Tech, Columbine, and even Andrew Cunanan (the Versace spree killing).
However a Glock is not a heavy combat and he could have done just the same amount of damage (potentially more with a large clip) with a .22 rifle especially looking at the end results and the victims.

Do you forget "Lean on Me"? He played a coarse bully of a principal who was not above tossing the N-word around. It doesn't have to be dignified to come from his lips.

Not to mention the last sentence says gun control would not solve it as it is just a mental health issue. Pretty sure Morgan Freeman is smart enough to know that both sensible gun control AND mental health needs to be addressed if we are to prevent most of these horrific incidents.

NO NO NO - don't you get it? We get ONE thing to try to solve a problem, just one. So you gotta be careful what you pick. Doctor says that illness could be bacterial, could be viral - you gotta either that the pills, or get rest and fluids, but you can't do both!

Damnit man, next thing you know you'll be trying crazy mixes like lowering spending AND raising taxes.

This is NOT the American way - if it doesn't solve the whole problem, it's not worth trying.

I wish the networks should do like major league baseball does when some ahole runs out on the field to get on tv.

The camera men immediately point the cameras at the sky and announcers start talking about some obscure story about one of the players.

Definitely has cut down on people running out on the field.

because they wanted everyone to hear it as if it were coming from his ('soothing') voice, there's another meme going around with his face and captioned "I could tell I'd just killed your entire family with an axe -- and you would still be calmed by the sound of my voice"

The media is partly to blame, but the real cause is that those with mental issues do not have the healthcare they should get and that the availability of firearms to these individuals increases the death toll.

2012-12-17 01:46:22 PM
Serious question...If the argument is that if we ban all guns (which from what I've read no one is seriously suggesting) then only criminals will have them, isn't it a moot point when it comes to spree killings? Weren't the firearms aquired in Columbine, movie theater shooting and now CT all done so legally? None of these people were criminals until they were.
