Oddly when I search for news about this hot dog guy, the only stuff I can find is conservative sites. So can anyone confirm what really happened? Or is this another one of those fake conservative things? Like that guy who attacked a union guy and then was pushed down himself, and he went on national tour in a wheelchair.

Fake conservative thing.

First they tried the comedian/reporter/blogger gets beat down thing - until the rest of the video showed he was the aggressor.

Then they tried the 'union thugs tore down the tent with women and children in it' - until video proved the 'union thugs' were not union members and there were no women and children in the tent.

Lastly they tried the 'black man beaten and called uncle tom' thing - except the guy was never hit and his stuff was in the tent that was involved in the previous story and most of the money raised for the guy came from union members.

To top it all off - every one of these stories happened near, in or on top of the Americans for Prosperity tent - the Koch Brothers grass roots organization. AfP only provided all the food, beverages and $25 gas cards to it's attendees and their 'benefactors' stand to profit tremendously from every weakening of worker rights in this country.

Shocking coincidence?

eejack: Moosecakes: Oddly when I search for news about this hot dog guy, the only stuff I can find is conservative sites. So can anyone confirm what really happened? Or is this another one of those fake conservative things?

Source that any of this was fake? When I do a search, the only stories I see saying this are left wing socialist sites.

There are also reports of the Koch-funded conservatives untying the tent restraints so the tent could conveniently fall down when union members were nearby and on camera.

The guy was contracted by the pro-right-to-work people to serve refreshments; they paid in advance for several hundred hot dogs, and handed out coupons to people who wanted them.

In exchange for a probable payoff (that is not proven but these things are usually done on a cash basis), a bunch of punk thugs attacked him, beat him up, destroyed his business, called him a ni**er, an Uncle Tom, a scab, and numerous other unpleasant names.

It was pretty much done because he was 70 years old, had no weapons and could not defend himself. I got serious doubts those yellow bellied cowards would attack an able--bodied man.

Make no mistake. Obama was intentionally trolling conservatives with that statement. The whole thing was meant to anger them and he knew it. He touched on one of the right's rawest nerves: to have the audacity to suggest the fact that maybe they aren't the bootstrappy "rugged individualists" they claim to be and have actually *gasp* had a little bit of help from government programs to give them a leg-up in their successes. And the GOP took the bait handily and built up their entire convention against that theme ("WE BUILT THIS! DERP!!!). A convention that, if you recall, actually caused Mitt Romney's support to DECREASE rather than giving him the usual post-convention bounce. They played right into Obama's trap and didn't realize it until it was too late.

Go back to reading your Pravda, and keep increasing your ignore list.

You still planning on attending Romney's inauguration, genius?

You so funny. Let's talk about the Tea Party having control of The House for the next 35 years, talk about a shellacking.

And this is why we need better mental health care in America. So you can get the help you need. Listen, I understand it's hard admitting your brain is broken, but you'd go to the doctor if your leg was broken. Go to a doctor. If you can't afford it now, Obamacare will be kicking in soon.

Because they did, the Tea Party did cost the GOP the US Senate twice in the past four years.

;)

Four Years? Really? The Tea party swept the House only two years ago. Time must be condensed in your universe. Just give up on trolling me.

You're right, I stand corrected:

The Tea Party cost the GOP the US Senate twice in the past TWO years.

Let's ask Wikipedia:

When Anschutz started the Examiner in its current format, he envisioned creating a conservative competitor to The Washington Post. According to Politico, "When it came to the editorial page, Anschutz's instructions were explicit - he 'wanted nothing but conservative columns and conservative op-ed writers,' said one former employee." The Examiner's conservative writers include Byron York (National Review), Michael Barone (American Enterprise Institute, Fox News), and David Freddoso (National Review, author of The Case Against Barack Obama).[4]

The paper endorsed John McCain in the 2008 presidential election[11] and Adrian Fenty in the Democratic primary for mayor in 2010.[12] On December 14, 2011, it endorsed Mitt Romney for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, saying he was the only Republican who could beat Barack Obama in the general election.[13]

If only they were rich and powerful enough to destroy an entire hot dog company, raping the pension funds of thousands of workers to pay themselves a handsome bonus for the hard work of loading the company with debt until it collapsed. Then they would be heroes. They could run for President as the GOP candidate with a record like that.

The whole "you didn't build it" BS is annoyingly juvenile. Either you're an utter moron incapable of understanding more than one sentence of context, or, you're being intellectually dishonest and willfully ignoring the meaning of Obama's quote in its entirety. Literally, these are the ONLY possible options, either dumb or dishonest.

The problem is that it wasn't phrased very well. Someone on the left, who basically agrees with the ideology, will give benefit of the doubt, and hear "Intelligence and hard work are necessary but not always sufficient for success, and the structure of the society you live in is responsible for a portion of that success."

Someone on the other side will hear "Intelligence and hard work are neither necessary nor sufficient for success, because some people have both and don't succeed. The only determining factor is the help you received from society." A plain reading of the text can easily support that interpretation as well.

It was basically an off the cuff statement, and the President didn't think very much, or at all, about how it would sound to anyone on the other side.

Other Detroit/ Michigan originated hot dog brands:

Koegel Meats, Kowalski Meats, Winter's, Deaborn Sausage, Greenfield Village, and the classic Ball Park Franks.

It's all about the right combination of snap, salt, and texture. If the dog does not have snap, it's worthless and deserving of scorn.

Koegel is the best--you can get them at Meijer in Michigan, but Meijer in Chicago doesn't carry them

I love how the Fark trolls and shills constantly repeat the same tired, refuted, whining things over and over and over again. It's like you're not even trying anymore.

It's bullshiat, and will be proven so in a day or two, yet your aunt will still be fwd:fwd:fwd: this to you for years

The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." ... "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality-judiciously, as you will-we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors...and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.

2012-12-17 12:21:55 AM
In case this hasn't been made fully clear, a Detroit coney dog and a Cincinnati chili dog are not the same thing.

The Detroit coney dog starts with a natural, snap-casing dog (I saw some people covered the preferred brands, above). The chili is actually chili sauce, a somewhat runny, no-beans affair (also, no cinnamon or chocolate or any of the other craziness I saw referenced earlier; it is, however, often made with some relatively unconventional meat, beef heart among others...not a lot of people seem to know this part, I think, otherwise I can't imagine coneys'd be as popular as they are) used in quantities so great that the coney can't be eaten with your hands. A fork and knife is mandatory. Then the raw, diced onions and (usually) yellow mustard. That's pretty much it.

Now we just need to get someplace to serve 'em in Chicago's. Leo's tried, but selling dogs for $2 and Bell's beers for $3 is no way to stay in business in Wrigleyville.

There was a coney island near Wayne State in Detroit that literally saved my life. $1 detroit coneys, $1 fries, $1 drink. I would go there all the time and spend hours studying and shooting the shiat with the owner. Great times, great food, GREAT KOEGELS. I gave the guy a $50 tip my last day before i moved away. He was an awesome little greek man.

jso2897: The clock is ticking. In two more election cycles, the old will cease to run this country. Better push that anti-union message on the angry white men - and push it fast. It won't work much longer. None of the right's shiat is going to work much longer.

But I should have the choice to join a union right? I mean its a CHOICE! Choice is good or so I'm told by the left. And the unions dont want the non-union member aka dead beats who did nothing getting the same things they worked so hard for. Where have I heard people complaining about that before? But when those people complained about deadbeats they were called stingy racists. You shouldn't be forced to join a group just so you can feed your family
