If you're going to copy another band how about someone more modern than Black Sabbath (the singer in particular)

I was going to say he looks like the IT guy at my job.

Tune isnt too bad, Pretty simplistic sounds like old Sabbath and some stoner rock

Boring. I kept waiting for the song to go somewhere. Agreed with the Sabbath comparisons.

I've never heard anyone else sound so much like Ozzy before that wasn't Ozzy or singing karaoke Ozzy.

I rather like this tune from the start. Good production values, and it sounds really thumpy and nice on my new Logitech G35 set. Yeah, it's simple and reminds me a lot of late 70's early 80's. This is not necessarily bad.

Metal I'm listening to this week

Wind Rose - The Endless Prophesy (Italian) In the Italian Neoclassical vein, but with lots of progressive influence

Aviations - Outliers (Berklee) Really heavy djent and math, but clean vocals and a big progressive and ambient influence also.

nice pick. i can listen to this type of noncontroversial metal all day. very tasty. vocals are solid.

From some albums I got today...

Portal of I by Ne Obliviscaris

Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum by Deathspell Omega

Memoria Vetusta II - Dialogue with the Stars by Blut Aus Nord

Really looking forward to giving all of these a listen. I've listened to the BaN album most of the way and it is fantastic.

Ha. I love seeing Alestorm live. They really only care about having a good time, and it always is. The last time I saw them was on Halloween, where they all dressed up as characters from Batman. They became "Christian Balestorm" and sang about Batman. It was hilarious.

Because virtually all metal traces its roots through Sabbath?

Because Iommi is so metal that he lost his fingertips and went right back to playing guitar?

Because the rotting corpse of Dio is still a better singer than Cookie Monster?

Folks emulate Sabbath because Sabbath is farking awesome

That in no way fits my criteria for metal.

Sounds more hard rock-ish. Keep waiting for some metal from Fark that impresses me.

To avoid a argument, Im not saying their bad. Just no where near what I look for.

El Brujo: Portal of I by Ne Obliviscaris

Easily my pick for album of the year.

HighZoolander: /g

I don't know about this one. Loved the Mercyful Fate meets Blue Oyster Cult feel of the first album, but there's no need for the two of them to meet Diablo Swing Orchestra.

Heh. That would be a strange dark alley. I liked it at first, and it's gotten better I think after a few listens, but even if the new album is only half as good as the first one, it will be high on my list of favorites next year.

Yeah, that was a really solid, well made, interesting album.

Out of all the metal albums I've heard this year, I think that Skeletal Remains "Beyond The Flesh" is my favorite. For my tastes, just about perfect from beginning to end. The, apparently suicidal, Al-Namrood's "Kitab Al Awthan" is right up there. Probably 3rd would be Sonne Adam's "Messenger's Of Desolate Ways". Too much music to choose from. What a bummer problem. heh

Also, the most Sabbath-y band not named Black Sabbath is Count Raven.

So you want to use revisionist history and say Black Sabbath wasn't really metal even though they were considered heavy metal in the 70's because there's stuff that's heavier now?

Good answer.
