Just had a random thought that I'd like to throw out there to see if I'm right....

What would happen if Obama suddenly decided he was going to all the funerals, and that there had to be Secret Service protection for all of them? Would that-group-whose-name-I-don't-speak back up or be utterly stupid enough to try and stand their ground against them?

Now THAT would be a popcorn moment.

The first amendment doesn't make you bullet proof, and eventually one of them is going to get shot.
So, they'll sue. Big deal.
I'm willing to chip in on the settlement.

Admins who green WBC submissions are worse than the WBC.

Stop giving these ignorant farksticks a platform. It has been obvious for years now that they exist solely to generate frivolous lawsuits by threatening outrageous acts, getting barred and then suing. Stop helping them with free advertising you shiat-for-brains

Isn't it kind of ironic that we despise and revile these attention whores for forcing their socially unacceptable views onto wider society, but at the same time we can't accept the need to start a dialogue about avoiding these completely avoidable tragedies without being branded either a "Gun Nut" or a "Liberal gun hater". I don't see that the bipolar hatred for each position on guns is any better than the WBC spewing hate wherever they show up.

Nothing good will come of this. Someone filled with grief is going to become unhinged. That is exactly what WBC wants so they can sue.

This is what confuses me about the WBC. I think most people reasonable here would not side with the WBC if put on a jury. How does the WBC leverage the legal system to make the scam work?

And how are they any different than Huckabee or Fischer? I suppose they gloat more and are openly gleeful about the children's deaths. But the basic message is the same: God did this because America is godless.

I'm not worried. I know plenty of, uh, alternative social clubs in Connecticut that will certainly make sure they don't come anywhere close to that funeral.

The midwest may have Hell's Angels... we have that and then some.

All these shootings lately, and no one picked the WBC as a target? I'd love to seem them picket a funeral if it was their own who got shot. Which gets me thinking, can you imagine what kind of protest there will be when Fred Phelps dies? Say what you will about "stooping to their level" I know I'll be there with my "FRED IS DEAD" sign. Hope they bury him so I can shiat on his grave.

If the jury is forced to go by the letter of the Law WBC will usually win. Anymore though, it's going tougher and tougher for them to pull it off. This will be as earlier stated, and I agree, the final straw.

Civil trials rather than criminal. If you punch them, you probably won't go to jail for assault, but they'll sue you for the damages. And before you say jury nullification, that doesn't work in civil trials - the judge can make a finding of liability regardless of the jury's decision if he or she feels it's unreasonable.

There are some, WBC for instance, that know how to use the law to their own sick and twisted advantage.
I think these antics from them are going to catch up with them in the long run.

I think any parent of a dead child would easily be able to claim temporary insanity, in a civil or criminal trial. And any judge or jury would pretend to believe them.

Not religion, church. And they already do, through the Tax Code. And the WBC is quite clearly a church under the Tax Code, because that's exactly what it's designed to be.

That's right. I'm no lawyer but I think what you say makes sense. People will often settle out of court too. It seems to me though, that there has to be a line drawn similar to the yelling Fire in a theatre concept.

So let me get this straight. Professed Christians claiming that God didn't stop the massacre because we took prayer out of public school (Huckabee, American Family Association etc...) are good God fearing Christians pointing out that a lack of religion is to blame and trying to help and improve this country by trying to create an official state backed religion. Westboro Baptist Church are evil cultists to be despised for pointing out that a lack of religion is to blame and trying to help and improve this country by trying to create an official state backed religion.

Officially their stated end goal is the same and they should be working together.

Fred Phelps has the distinction of being an ugly blemish on the face of humanity. Claiming to be speaking for God and then saying and doing outlandish crap, is a sign of mental instability.
He and his followers and family are completely off their nut to think that what they doing is reasonable. That includes litigating. Ill gotten gains for truly ill people.

============================

You are brainwashed, not all Christians are evil, some dedicate their lives to good, some build hospitals, some feed the hungry, and some provide medicine to those in need. I drive down the road and see HUGE Christian hospitals with thousands and thousands of people working them.

All i see Liberals build are little Clinics where two go in and one comes out and thanks to Obamacare I get to help pay for that.

As far as the Westboro Baptist Church goes these are insane people that found a way to abuse the First Amendment. I just wish all of their mothers would have visited one of your clinics years ago.

I'd be willing to pony up some money for an organization that would follow them around and set up acoustic shells (like the kind they use in the back of college stages to project the sound from the back) in front of them wherever they protested. Less people have to listen to them, and maybe hearing their own voices will make them realize something.

/Probably not.
//Assuming they'd have a certain spot they would be allowed to protest from, nobody would have to look at them, either.

Relying on an insanity defense is a good way to end up locked up in an asylum for the rest of your life. It's why, outside of movies and television, it's really only used when facing the death penalty or life in prison.
