If somebody is out there thinking about shooting up a school or shopping mall, I have a different target for you to consider.

Is there anyone outside of the WBC who actually supports or agrees with their positions? Anyone? Has any ultra-right wing pundit or politician endorsed one of their viewpoints or used their positions to bolster a point? Do they have any legitimacy whatsoever beyond their own bubble?

monty666: So is this what all Christians are like?

They are what the bible is talking about when the people that "did great works in his name" are sent to hell because (Jesus' words) "I never knew you".

All they want is attention and lawsuits. We need to listen to some important advice from the Simpsons: Just Don't Look

Question -- Can WBC sink lower than this?

Answer -- Yes. They could bring their own Bushmasters to the protest and open fire on the mourners.

I'm sorry. Upon review, the caption to the photo should have been DAT'S AN ASS???

I have to wonder if they would still hold firm to their view that God is heaping judgment on others if it was their children who were the victims of a murderous psychopath.

BronyMedic: DancingElkCondor: Westboro Cult founder Fred Phelps is buddies with Al Gore, and has contributed to his political campaigns over the years. That is fact. The Phelps Family are DEMOCRATS

Which has to do with what, exactly? Please. Tell us more.

DancingElkCondor: The Westboro Cult/Phelps Family are also all Bar Certified lawyers...and stage these protests to lure opponents into lawsuits. They are really no different than the Liberal Democrat Trial Lawyers that are the biggest fund raisers for the DNC

Fred Phelps was debarred because of his massive ethics violations in the past, as well as the use of the court to file frivolous lawsuits in hopes of settlement.

DancingElkCondor: Note also that none of the Gay Rights Group ever protest against Westboro Cult and their anti-homosexual themed protests. There is a reason why the Gay Rights Groups do not protest Westboro...they are both funded by the same Liberals

You're trolling here, right? Please, please tell me you're trying to Poe.

Wow. I never thought I'd see, of all things, Westboro Conspiracy Theorists.

And you are one of the morons I was talking about....thank you for proving my points.

Hoban Washburne: Osomatic: There is actually no low to which these people can sink. Because they're not in it for their supposed beliefs, they're in it for a living. They employ full-time lawyers to file applications for demonstrations. Many are denied, and so then they file lawsuits under the first amendment - but of course they will usually settle for some money. This is what these people do. When they actually show up to "protest," they are usually there for about 30 minutes or less and then they get the heck out of there.

Therefore, the VERY best thing that we can all do is allow them to do whatever the hell they want. Let them hold up their signs, and laugh at them. They don't mean it. They've almost never meant it. Let them do their thing and laugh and laugh and laugh at them. But always let them do their thing. Because it is only in not being allowed that they make their dough. They must always be allowed. It is so irriating, I know. But they must always always be allowed.

Because if they have nobody to sue, they will eventually have to go away, because they won't have any money.

Very nice. To put it succinctly, don't give these attention seeking coonts any farking attention.

...I'll say it again. "Ignore it and it goes away" doesn't work. In fact, I'd go farther and say "Ignore it and it goes away" is a chief cause of the very funeral these people are protesting.

Per Anonymous, one of them is a fitness trainer.

The ass in question is probably Rachel I. Phelps-Hockenbarger.

/How does a member of the WBC get to be a fitness trainer, probably in the Topeka, KS, YMCA?

Weaver95: are they TRYING to get themselves murdered?

WBC: 'we have rights! we can protest anywhere!'
locals: 'a-yup. say sheriff, why don't you go check out the north forty. I hear martha's out that way with a flat tire.'
sheriff: 'why sure, I'll head on out there for while. might take me all day though, that martha...she's got terrible car troubles.'
WBC: 'um...hey, we' got rights. you have to stay here to protect us!'
sheriff: 'you don't look like your in any danger, right fellas?'
locals: 'oh they're fine. just fine.'
sheriff: 'ok then, see you all tomorrow! [drives off]'
WBC: 'well um...ok then, I guess we'll just be going now...'
locals: 'why don't we help you to the elevator'
WBC: 'hey! we're on the first floor! and we got rights! WE'LL SUE!
locals: 'well you'll try anyways...boys, go pry open them doors on the 10th floor. we'll move 'em up in batches...'
WBC: [screams] *dies*

I like this solution!

chuckufarlie: Funk Brothers: Here's a tip for the residents of Newtown, just ignore them and don't go and see them protest. They're protected under the 1st Amendment in the case of Snyder v. Phelps.

When the WBC sees people ignoring them and/or not showing up to counter protest, they will probably give up.

you don't have to "go see them", they will be across the street from the funeral services.

They are not going to go away just because people ignore them. That is a rather childish notion.

Not as long as they have the Left supporting them and mentioning them in every article. You can tell their fans by the stupid responses to my earlier post.

Bravo, dude. You are actually being sincere about what you just said, aren't you? You ACTUALLY think the Westboro Baptist Church is a "librul conspiracy" to make Christians look bad, or actually think that rational people equate a professional religious scam group with Christians as a whole?

Do you have to wear a towel to keep the drool off your clothing?

I think I can say without fear of hyperbole, nothing is off limits for these creatures. They still have much further to fall before one of them asks the others if maybe they're stepping over a line. They're in love with their own message to the point I don't think it occurs to them even for a second that they are the problem. They are utterly without shame. Vanity, thy name is Phelps.

Yes. Phelps has tried to run for Governor 3 times and the senate once. All as a Democrat. Never made it through the primaries though.

2012-12-16 11:27:16 AM
They obviously didn't think their plan through.

There's at least a dozen churches, synagogues, etc. in that town. There are twenty-six funerals being planned as we speak. Assuming there are twenty six funerals, and all the possible faiths are represented, that's a long time and area to spread out the work. With that many permits to protest needing to be legally procured (a must on these window-lickers' checklists), that long a time to be in hotels in the area (which aren't that cheap, I've stayed near there before), they're actually going to lose money on this one if no one bites, and I get the distinct feeling no one will. Hell, Newtown PD is probably a weeeee bit busy with an on-going MCE investigation, how are they going to have the time to even clear all these permits in the first place?

I'd also like to believe that some of their members might be driven to crises of faith over protesting first graders, but I doubt it.

What if I granted that this was true. Elder Phelps checked a box marked "D" once. Maybe even gave money to Al Gore (who can imagine why, or even try to figure out the motives of a madman). Can't you see every single democrat trying to push this group away at Ludicrous Speed? At least Democrats ostracize their extremists.

Thread jack.

I don't agree with the "just ignore them" approach. Think about it this way -- many of the problems we are facing in this country is because we ignore it or look the other way. What's the general reason kids are shooting up schools the past 10 years? Society is ignoring them and their nutty ways. Even when someone thinks there might be a problem its hard to act because we are so worried about "offending" someone.

We have become SO damn politically correct and soft that we don't want to take care of problems as they present themselves.

If the underlying issue with WBC is that they are just in it for the money -- solve their abuse of the system by not allowing them to exploit people or tax dollers on inciting hate. Anyone with any common sense would tell you that a group that wants to protest after 20something children died... is a group that deserves *whatever* they get in terms of street justice.

Had I been a parent and lost a child -- I'd be in such a messed up mental state that if this group showed up a my childs funeral... I more than likely would blow them away. (put yourself in a parents shoes, if you've already lost everything thats important to you, what does it matter anymore?)

lately the US has a great track record of ignoring problems: the national debt, our utility infrastructure, immigration, health care, education, our jumbled/clogged/corrupt legal system, hell even our patent system is broken.

I do agree with a few here -- instead of shooting up a school or a hospital, why doesn't one of these nuts shoot up WBC? I'm not advocating violence at all but if it "HAD" to happen, why shouldn't it happen to people that deserve it?

Laws (and their level of enforcement) will come and go - but there is always a given social contract in any society. If you violate that social contract you should be dealt with, swiftly and harshly . There is already too much pain and death in this country but sometimes that's the only thing capable of getting the message through to sick twisted people like WBC.
