BlippityBleep: steamingpile: MurphyMurphy: But we can still smoke in the office, in airplanes and the movie theater, right?

I mean, as long as we don't go crazy with this whole thing...

Only non smokers know how bad the smell is, smokers want to act persecuted but even being around smokers puts off an odor. What I still find amazing is that smokers think they can mask the smell or that we can't tell they smell like an ashtray.

i find it amazing how much people gripe about cigarette smoke and completely gloss over other airborne contaminants that are way worse for you.

Ya, nobody ever complains about pollution. Keep farking that strawman though.

Yes, you do.

skinink: Until smoking is made illegal, then too bad for you non smokers. It's a legal item. But since the state and local governments love the tobacco taxes they collect, it'll be a cold day in hell when tobacco cigarretts are banned.

Also, even if were banned, there would be plenty of organized crime types who would be glad to smuggle in foreign smokes, illicitly manufacture them here, and set up "smoke-easys" where smokers could smoke (and gamle and drink and have hooker sex and do drugs). The blood bath in the streets establishing all this would make the old alcohol prohibition murders seem like a sandbox fight between 4 year olds.

Smoke, infiltrating your apartment complex like a commie fifth columnist. We need to start some sort list, a blacklist if you will, to prevent this from bringing down our proud nation. We also need to scrutinize smoke's fellow traveler code named "cooking odor" and his subordinates "Fish" and "Curry".

MagSeven: iheartscotch: Pretty soon there's gonna be a painted red square on the ground and that's where you'll have to smoke. But only one smoker at a time. And it costs $5 per visit.

And someone will still walk over to you in your square and pretend to cough.

Or bum a smoke off of you.

austerity101: CrazyCurt: Meanwhile everyone living near a busy street is breathing fumes from exhaust and airborne road grime particles. This is the big conspiracy -- tobacco is an easy scapegoat to place blame for health problems actually caused by the automotive-oil-chemical cartel. Once tobacco is illegal and eradicated people will still be breathing the floating debris from millions of dirty vehicles kicking toxic dust into the atmosphere.

/ no one thinks about all of the fine road dust, road dust consisting of ALL the chemicals spilled upon said roads, that gets scattered into the air with every passing tire. I will probably be killed just for knowing about this and farking it to fark.

Vehicles serve a function in society; smoking doesn't. Furthermore, removing any harmful chemical from the equation is a step in the right direction--might as well start with the ones that are most easily removed, and the ones whose presence serves no purpose.

And vehicles and their emissions are heavily regulated.

I'm old enough to remember when they first banned smoking on flights less than an hour long (full disclosure I'm not a smoker).

They swore it was just for these short flights, nothing to worry about.

Now I'm sure in the next few months it will be only for 'assault' weapons and everyone will hold hands and cheer (full disclosure I'm not a gun owner).

Only 'assault' weapons, nothing to worry about.

Then, God forbid your Farking little asses, someone will want to ban first shooter video games.

Oh how I will laugh at the comments.

This. Last I checked, drinking wasn't so great for you, but it seems favored upon on FARK.

Drinking only affects the one ingesting it, and smoking doesn't take much time using to cause permanent affects. And I doubt anyone that smokes more than 5 a day could out perform most on physical activities unless they are lard asses who have their own vices. But still that doesn't harm anyone else besides their own fat asses.

This seems like a rational extension of the law. I actually used it to break out of my lease.

The country I live in is very anti-smoking. If it's indoors and the public can enter, or you have employees, it has to be smoke free. But the buildings and the building codes are woefully out of date. I was living in a building that was built in the 1600s. It was designed to be a house, was 'converted' into apartments, and was generally a crap hole.

My neighbors would have people over, 4-5 of them smoking in a small apartment and my place was like the inside of a chimney.

I have no idea what the hell a 500m short track speedskating time is. But I can say that I personally knew star athletes on my high school cross country team that smoked and still competed at the state level. This was a '6a' school in Illinois (so really damn impressive).

Of course, that's nothing compared to the professional and Olympic athletes that smoke.

I dont smoke and have no love for those who do. That said, they should be free to smoke in their own apartments, unless the property owner says otherwise. Its not a matter for the feds. If you dont like your neighbors smoking then move into an apartment complex that does not allow it, or just go buy a house. What is next? Banning farting in apartments?

To be fair though, alot of American cigarettes do smell absolutely awful. My mom smoked Salems and my god, in a 60's car with the windows up, brutal. But, yeah, just because I can smell it and I don't like it, doesn't mean it's hurting my health. If that was the case my cat's ass would be a superfund site.

That's because smokers are cool, and speedskaters are not. Skating is a thing you do when you're in middle school, until you discover smoking. Then you go out and get a life, and stop skating around in faster and faster circles. Well, if you're cool, you do. If you're a sad, pathetic excuse for a human being, you skate a lot more instead.

i see the finer points of cheeky commentary is lost on you with the tour-de-france pic. and i didn't claim that top olympians were or were not smokers. i just said that healthy people smoke, and there are very athletically competitive smokers, even olympians. and yes, i'm certain that an olympic athlete who smokes can outperform lots of nonsmokers. that's why they competed and won a chance to go to the olympics! it's not like there's a smokers quota they need to fill.

27 out of every 100 female deaths will be caused by breast cancer.

17% of the US population will die from obesity this year.

12 out of every 200 woman will be murdered by a friend or a love one through domestic abuse.

Global warming and the storms attributed to it will claim 3 people in the US every six and a half minutes.

Rectal itch will result in a decrease of 27% of the world population by the year 2024

And 100% of the people on this earth right now will be replaced within a hundred years. Life is short, enjoy it.
Want to puff a cigarette? Go for it. Don't like smoking? Don't smoke.
Most, not all I grant you, are "considerate" to others. It's a shame that non smokers couldn't be a little more "considerate"

msupf: Honestly surprised more complexes don't just put it in the lease that tenants can't smoke.

Fiancé was a leasing agent for a while... the amount of damage a smoker does to an apt in a year's time is astounding. Freshly painted walls are yellow and gummy; duct work, even after cleaning, is gummy and nasty and reeks of smoke; plastics throughout the apt need replacing; carpets and padding often need to be just torn out and replaced since cleanings don't always work, and so on and so on.

It got to the point where one particular apt had to be stripped down to studs because 2 years after the fact the place was still untenable because of two heavy smokers who lived there a couple years ago. They smoke so heavily that they stained the insulation and drywall opposite.

Speaking as a heavy smoker who has done a fair amount of cleaning, maintenance and repair work, you're either full of shiat, or the owners/managers were cheap-asses who paid $60 for an apartment cleaning and expected it to be like new.

It takes even a heavy smoker more than a year to do that kind of damage unless they are huge slobs smoking all day every day with all the windows closed and spilling ashes all over the carpet without cleaning them up,. and never wiping any surfaces down. If they were smart enough to use semi-gloss instead of flat paint, they might not even have to repaint after a good cleaning.

I wish people would stop with the know-nothing exaggerations and bullshiat.

ZeroPly: RayD8: ZeroPly: BlippityBleep: ZeroPly: BlippityBleep: ZeroPly: Who the f*ck is stupid enough to still be smoking, yet smart enough to have any sort of opinion on a public health issue?

hate to burst your weird little bubble, but there are plenty of healthy smokers out there who could physically outperform you in any category.

Challenge accepted. My 500m short track speedskating time this year was 57 seconds. Show me a healthy smoker out there who can outperform me.

go find your own! i'm not into 500m short track speedskating but ask your competitors. i'd be very surprised if you didn't find a few smokers in the bunch. probably closet smokers due to the bullshiat social stigma attached to it nowadays but you'll find them i'm sure.

No, cretin. There are no smokers in competitive speedskating, any more than there are functional alcoholics in the astronaut program. Let me say it again. No smokers. Here's another one - competitive marathon: no smokers. Wait, the ideas just keep coming. My last 100km bicycle time trial? Pretty sure there were no smokers on that one either. Unless they somehow found a way to smoke while on their aero bars and their heart rate was at 90% max.

Smokers are disgusting sh*tbags. They defend their addiction as "freedom" in the same way the NAMBLA creeps enhort you to keep an open mind about sexuality.

Heart rate only 90%. Sounds like they're not working hard enough.
You're probably one of those sh*tbag cyclists that ride 3 abreast and defend your right to use the road like eveyone else.

You sound like a lardo whose only encounter with heart rate monitoring will be after your first "cardiac event".

"cardiac event" sounds too competitive for me.
Played cricket yesterday. Just a short format. Only about a7 hour day.
Play Aussie Rules in winter.

Those sort of "jocks" are more the HGH crowd.

BlippityBleep: ZeroPly: Wow - I didn't know they took black and white pictures of the tour these days. What year is your "evidence" from? Also, I probably would know if my competitors smoked, the same way I would know if they rolled around in horse manure right before coming onto the ice. You must be one of those retards that thinks spraying yourself down with half a gallon of Febreeze will fool the rest of us.

"List of Olympians". Right. RTFA. The best in each of those fields is a nonsmoker. Bradley Wiggins is no Lance Armstrong. He's a mediocre bicyclist, his team engineered his victory.

But wait, you're on here arguing that smokers can actually outperform non-smokers. I don't think logic applies to you. Why don't you go find an "earth is 6000 years old" forum? You'll have better luck there.

i see the finer points of cheeky commentary is lost on you with the tour-de-france pic. and i didn't claim that top olympians were or were not smokers. i just said that healthy people smoke, and there are very athletically competitive smokers, even olympians. and yes, i'm certain that an olympic athlete who smokes can outperform lots of nonsmokers. that's why they competed and won a chance to go to the olympics! it's not like there's a smokers quota they need to fill.

Listen, no one is claiming that every single person who smokes is going to get lung cancer or won't be able to exercise, especially early on. Yes, it is possible that a good athlete may also be a smoker. But if you look at the statistics it is clear that smokers suffer more health issues directly related to their smoking. So please, stop pretending that smoking does not have an impact on your health, because it does.

CruJones: Think about this people, if we ban smoking, that means you can't get high when weed is finally legalized. Let's not be shortsighted.... Don't you want to be able to get high in your apartment?

Yes, you do.
