I hope she recovers swiftly. She has given a lot to this country, and deserves a rest after doing a kickass job as SOS. I'm sure the comments below TFA will reinforce my belief that folks would never stoop to ....

Recovering at home..sure ..that's a good one..the left think nothing

of shirking from accountability every waking second...She is having a good laugh getting out of the Benghazi hearings...

THink the media will go rough on her for this like they would for a Republican? NOPE!!!!

Pretty much this. I can't blame her for wanting out. For what it's worth, I've always had a personal dislike for her that I can't quite put my finger on any reason for, however I feel she's done a good job at her current post.

Honestly, fark her. She ran a despicable campaign in 2008 and I've never really respected her since. I want Warren in 2016, and I doubt she would run if Hillary did. But a Hillary vs. Warren primary would be almost as much fun as the Judd vs. McConnell battle is going to be.

But the more likely scenario is that this makes her unelectable, so Warren can hop right in without offending Democrat royalty.

Yeah, most definitely. Age (among other things) scared me away from McCain, especially when he picked Palin as his running mate. I am fairly convinced that at least by the tail end of his second term, Reagan had early onset Alzheimer's. We don't need that again.

Huh? Being sick makes you unelectable? Now, she probably should have been resting and drinking lots of fluids, but working too hard isn't usually disqualifying for much of anything.

I'd love to see Warren as President, but I'm be nervous about how electable she is nationally. If the environment in 2016 looks like she could actually win, I'd vote for her in a heartbeat. If not, I'll probably wind up voting for Hillary. I really do think she learned a lot from 2008 and that it changed her, and she's done a kickass job at State.

Kumana Wanalaia: dalovindj: There goes her shot at the presidency. Can we really afford a leader who faints at the first sign of trouble?

She's been saying she's not a candidate for a while now. Where have you been?

Yeah, I heard that too. Yet polling firms are reporting she would win if the election were held today and dramatic tv series are riffing on the coyness of her position (hot, political Sigourney Weaver ftw) . It keeps getting brought up in the national discussion, and of course she thinks about it. But she is forever unclean and can never win. So this fainting deal likely kills any tendencies she might have to try and convince herself that the media's insistence she could win has any connection to reality.

There is a plus side to Benghazi: after a decade, two wars, and a trillion plus dollars fighting terrorism, conservatives have finally cared that someone one died.

Pretty much this. I can't blame her for wanting out. For what it's worth, I've always had a personal dislike for her that I can't quite put my finger on any reason for, however I feel she's done a good job at her current post.

What kind of barn burning Benghazi testimony was she expected to give? My suspicion is that even if she did appear before congress, she'd just continue saying what state and the president have been saying about Benghazi ever since they started to figure out what happened. In fact, it would be ludicrous to expect her to say otherwise. I don't see the issue.

onyxruby: cptjeff: If Hillary won the Democratic nomination, she would be President right now. She wasn't unelectable by any stretch of the imagination- it would have been very hard for ANY Democrat to lose that election.

This might be the most derp filled statement I've read on Fark this year, and I'm not even a Republican. Hillary polarized people just as badly as W ever did, the idea that she was electable is pure hyperbole.

That might have been true in 1996, but it wasn't true in 2008. Bush had tainted the Republican brand so badly their nominee, whoever it was, never had a chance as long as the Democrat didn't completely self-destruct.

I'm sorry, but the notion that Hillary couldn't have been elected is simply moronic. The people who hate her would never have voted for her anyway, and they sure as hell didn't wind up voting for Blacky McBlackerson. There would have been some squabbling, but the Republicans were fighting a massive, massive headwind in 2008 thanks to W's massive suckitude. It might not have wound up being quite as massive a victory as Obama's was, but I don't have any doubts that she would have won.

The woman that has had books and an entire section on Wikipedia focused on her polarizing political effect was electable at the national level? Are you on crack?

To quote wikipedia in regards to the 2008 election "According to an online poll, "half of likely voters nationwide said they would never vote for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton."

To quote a 2010 article in Politics Daily "Just two years ago she was seen -- even by women -- as a polarizing and divisive figure, cold and cynically ambitious, manipulative and scheming, sly and pretentious. Many progressives and the liberal mainstream media deserted her" ....

"Political insiders may differ on which route she will take, but almost all of them agree that she will run for president in 2016. That notion was laughable two years ago."

MFAWG: Honest question: What is the current right wing reality about Benghazi, and what does Hillary Clinton have to do with it?

I don't know what the right wing theories are, but I enjoy the anti-right wing ones like this one and this one, which says that a bunch of generals and other disloyal government insiders who wanted to see Romney elected were trying to stage a Jimmy Carter-style military fiasco that probably would have ended in a hostage crisis, but Obama sniffed it out and ordered the stand down. Then afterwards, he purged the military and CIA. As for where Hilary fits in, I guess that's the question she won't be answering on Thursday, isn't it?

Not a big Hillary fan but she has done a credible job as SoS, especially in light of having to represent and in some cases defend what can most charitably be described as a somewhat erratic foreign policy. I have no idea if this medical setback will, in the long term, affect whether or not she testifies at a Benghazi hearing but I have noticed that, in the last several months, whenever she appears with him, she has the look of a teacher who is disappointed beyond words with a recalcitrant student, but she can't discipline him because his Daddy is president of the school board. She is, in every way governmental and diplomatic, superior to Obama and she knows it. It must gall her to no end to have to put up with his unwarranted arrogance.

Eh, I think that's a bit harsh, and that you might be letting your personal politics bleed into your perception of Clinton and Obama's relationship (this is just a gut reaction to your post and no claim of fact).

However, you're not entirely off-base. Hilldawg is a studied, lifetime-groomed political animal. All the sudden a dynamic, but younger and more personable guy steals it from her. I don't believe his foreign policy is the problem as much as they just have a natural friction. If given the time to Google it I'm sure I could find at least a dozen examples of presidents and their chief diplomats despising each other.

And to be fair, I'm pretty sure everyone encounters friction with her. I respect the hell out of her, but she's never been known as a pushover...to put it charitably. That doesn't always go over well, whether she's correct or not.
