braedan: I'm sick of all the complaints about Season 2.

The show he its budget cut in half very soon before production started which forced the show to minimize the number of sets they had and there certainly wasn't time to re-write the season to take better advantage of the farm setting.

It seems the writers were preparing for this when writing season 3. The only significant sets are the prison & woodbury -- granted those are large sets, but they're constantly being used over & over.
On top of that the budget was increased. The Walking Dead also has a way of dealing with tricky fact that actors get more expensive the longer they're on a show.

We can make excuses for Season 2 all we want but it won't change the fact that it sucked. Fans of the show know why it sucked--that AMC took a bunch of Walking Dead money ($650K/episode) and threw it at Mad Men. They lost the entire writing staff from Season 1 AND Darabont. Whatever they could have done differently is moot. The season sucked, we all know it, but we held in there and got a nice pay-off w/the finale and now Season 3.

DuudeStanky: Black and white can add a lot to movies and TV shows IF the show is shot well enough to pull it off.

I watched Terminator in black and white and was far better than Terminator in color, just for the cold, harsh visuals. Good contrast is essential.

I don't think The Walking Dead has enough contrast between characters and background to make things stand out. It'd all feel washed out in grey methinks.

The best example of this is The Mist. The special edition of the DVD release featured a copy of the movie in black and white. It went from feeling like a well acted Syfy original to an awesome episode of The Outer Limits.

The black & white version of The Mist is pretty cool. The lack of color makes it moodier and darker, and it also makes the CGI look less obvious. Darabont wanted to do a theatrical release in B&W, but the suits said no.

dyertek: Just to pipe in...the story of the video game from Telltale Games is much better than the comic and the show.

moothemagiccow: This is not like having a bad harvest. God did not cut the budget. AMC made a terrible decision.

I do blame AMC for their decision. I do NOT blame the writers, producers and/or show runners of The Walking Dead. That's the differentiation that I don't think is clear to many fans. Season 2 is not terrible because "The Creatives are teh suck", Season 2 is terrible because "teh suits" didn't want to pony up the cash that their wildly popular show required.

I applaud the writers, actors and crew of The Walking Dead for giving us the memorable material from Season 2 that we did get (the well zombie, the zombie stampede where Rick was lying under 3 zombies, the season 2 finale come to mind) and I appreciate that they decided to show less zombies rather than skimp on the make up.

Someone cut that budget. And it made the show suck. And people complained.

This is not like having a bad harvest. God did not cut the budget. AMC made a terrible decision.

Why even bother complaining now? Everyone seems to agree that Season 3 is firing on all cylinders. Why dwell on the past?

brigid_fitch: The Singing Bush: I'm a big fan of the show, so I picked up the first compendium of the comic. I have to say the show is far superior.

Read a few more. You'll change your mind.

No he won't. The comic books sucked front to back, even through the vaunted issues 100 and 104.

The TV show is vastly superior. The comic books should print in big bold letters on the front of each issue "THANKS TV FOR SAVING OUR LAME ASS!!!"

I'll agree season 2 had some dull episodes, but I think they've recovered pretty well this season.
