The Angels open their season on the road against the Reds and the Rangers, Hamilton's two former teams.

Are you ready for the OVERWHELMING DRAMA that ESPN will inevitably manufacture over this?

So now they have Josh Hamilton, Mike Trout AND Christopher Lloyd in the outfield??

Great Scott!

The local media here isn't too distraught, other than to say that they missed out on some other big free agents so they don't have anyone to replace him with.

The overwhelming answer I heard from the Rangers fans I know was "good".

Good luck, Josh. Looks like a tough high score.

the L.A. media will tear him a new one the first time his eyeballs get too dry from caffeine or jesus gets mad at him for using skoal, Hamilton flat out quit on his teamates three times last season.

Any chance Tim Tebow can be there?

Have fun losing to the Tigers in the playoffs.

Thank you, Josh, for the great years. I wish you all the best and hope your life works out well. I also wish you hadn't ended up with the Angels, because you ared formidable. However, I'm glad the Rangers didn't sign you to that kind of deal, because there have been too many 'minor' incidents already, and I fear the implosion.

2012-12-14 01:51:18 PM
The Angels strike me as a needing a good starting pitcher more than a middle-of-the-order bat. I'm not convinced that Joe Blanton and Tommy Hanson are going to do well in the AL West, and besides Jered Weaver there's not a lot there.

Pretty much. North Texas is beyond sick of his shiat, and was glad he went. He flat out quit on the team last year, is exceptionally high maintenance (not just the drug and alcohol problem), and is an insufferable arrogant twit about his personal story. Ranger fans didn't want him back. There was a minor freak out because of the numbers we were losing, but he's a headcase that everyone in and out of the org was sick of.

Just like CJ last year, we loved is work and the numbers, but were glad to see him go. We've got cash, and the best farm system in the league. We'll be just fine.

The las 100 games of his year he batted .245 with 123Ks

If that ain't worth $25mm per year, nothin is.

2012-12-14 02:03:17 PM
A lot of Orioles fans thought they should have made a play for him. But Baltimore is not where you want to be if you have substance abuse issues. Plus, the way he ended last year? I didn't think they should have taken that chance.

The Angels, though? Yeah, they have money to burn and need a good outfielder. Pujols didn't cost too much, and that Trout kid is probably just a fluke.

Local news here in LA was all about how the Angels had to match the spending spree of the Dodgers... Just like last year the Angels had to spend big bucks in order to take advantage of the dissaray that the Dodgers were in.

It's funny how the Angles have been much more successful in the last 2 dacades yet the media is still based on what the Dodgers are doing.

They're having a minor meltdown up here in Seattle because it was rumored that the Mariners were a serious contender to get him, and now he's off to Anaheim.

This just demonstrates how delusional Seattle sports people really are.

Great player, but 5 years at $125 million is waaaaaay too many years and waaaaaaay too much money for a 32 year old who spends as much time on the DL & has the off-the-field problems Hamilton does. I think it's a bad deal for their ballclub & I'm okay with that.

There's a lot more trouble to get into off-the-field in LA than in D/FW & he won't have the kind of support system that he had in Texas. I seriously doubt that Mike Scioscia will put up with nearly as much of Josh's shiat as Wash did.

His body started breaking down in his mid 20s. What kind of player do you think he'll be when he's 37 at the end of that contract? I'd venture a safe guess & say he'll likely be nothing close to what he has been over the past few years and the Halos will be trying to unload him, while eating a lot of that money.

Again, great player & I'd have loved to see him stay in Texas (who in their right mind wants to watch a 43 & 128 guy walk), but 5 years is about two years more than I'd be comfortable with.

I think it's probably more about TV & ratings in that market than anything else.

Still, the Dodgers keep throwing their big 12 pounder on the table (see the Greinke deal) and pretty much money whippping everyone.

That was actually the national story that they were in highest contention for him last week. The delusion came from management according to the stories. You guys are fine, just relax a little and enjoy the Hawks attempt at the WC and possibly division.

If ESPN airs any of those games (and you just know they'll air one of the Rangers games) they'll have Tebow in the broadcast booth for a couple innings, because America wants nothing more than to hear Tebow talk about how God is giving Hamilton a second chance on life.

Oh I know the Mariners were trumpeting about how close they were. I'm just saying you had to be delusional to think that they were actually serious about it. Hamilton had about as much chance of playing for the M's as I do.

Anywhere but DFW would probably be a bad thing considering the support he had here. The team was walking on eggshells around him, the staff was dedicated to making sure that Josh was clean and accountable, and the local fans dealt with "I'm in a slump because of my eye color" or "Jesus hates me because I drink Red Bull" for several years before giving up on his nonsense.

The good news is that we get to look forward to another year of talking about how awesome that AAA squad is down in Tacoma, and how cool it is going to be when those kids come up and win us a pennant!

And then May will come around. Justin Smoak will be hitting .203 and everyone will sigh and say at least he's getting better.

I'm just about done with the Mariners. I don't think it's ever been so obvious that the ownership and front office don't give two shiats about actually putting a good product on the field. The attendance numbers are declining at a record pace (most abondoned team of the decade) and they do NOTHING.

Oh wait, they signed Jason Bay - I guess I'm full of shiat.

Actually, the delusion stemmed from thinking the Mariners should sign Hamilton, if he were even interested.

Because, a 30+ year old with major questions marks regarding his ability to stay healthy, and his state of mind regarding a variety of issues, is absolutely a guy that a team like the Mariners, who are not a playoff team with or without him in the immediate future, should sign to a long-term megaf*ck deal.

Spending money on people who can actually hit major league pitching is exactly what this team needs to do. I am so sick and f*cking tired of reclamation projects and rookies every season and the winter meeting ending with zero news. If this team gave a shiat they'd have signed an actual major league baseball player by now.
