As a general rule I don't watch any movies with Hugh Grant. I've never liked the guy... not for anything in particular, he just sets off the part of my brain that tells me that I don't like someone. And now Jon Stewart tells me that the guy is a dick... so I guess my spidey sense was right.

People keep telling me that I should make an exception for About a Boy... but I have just refused. Watching him act is equivalent to nails on chalkboard to me.

Dear Hugh:

If you want to shill your stupid rom-com movie on the talk show circuit, at least try not be an insufferable ass about it.

Sincerely,

Does Hugh Grant just exist to get posterized by talk show hosts?

Not that he doesn't totally deserve it. I'm just saying. Ever since the day he decided that Elizabeth Hurley was an inferior alternative to Random LA Hooker, it's been a slow, downhill career slide.

It actually is a really good movie. I get the feeling that character is closer to who Hugh Grant really is than all the lovably sweet stammerers he was playing up until then.

I generally like the guy, and I love the Daily Show, but I can see the two not being a good fit.

You're missing the content worth reading/watching. The fact that "make a better f---ing movie" was the money-moment means there wasn't any such content.

That was just Hugh being a philanthropist. The prostitute Divine Brown made a million dollars from that scandal, retired, moved and got a new home in Atlanta, and sent her two children though college with all of that money she made from a $50 blow job.

THIS. The movie wasn't bad at all, but the book was terrific, as are all Nick Hornby novels.

I love the Hugh Grant movie where he has his anus cored out by a huge power drill, and then five skinheads take turns shiatting in his mouth while he screams.

It's a great movie. Plays in my head every few minutes.

Interesting. I thought you were just being sarcastic. Looks like that's correct...if you believe wiki.

Divine Brown

And is this her now actually trying to break into music?

It's not even horrible. Not good but not horrible. Presumably that's what she was doing in Hollywood.

Yep. It's difficult to go wrong with Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, and Liam Neeson working together. Even Keira Knightley was tolerable.

In About A Boy he plays a dick who becomes less of a dick over time. There's some great scenes and no pulling the hand through the hair (thank God) and if it were not for that gawdawful it would be a fantastic movie. The song loses it a couple of points.

I saw her on T.V. a couple weeks ago and no one I was watching with remembered where she was famous from- They just assumed she was some sort of musician- I felt weird for remembering- but did and reminded the room that she was THE prostitute that blew Hugh Grant--- Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut, at this point I don't think she deserves the bad reputation.

It's a decent movie and he's decent in it, but don't worry that you're missing out on some great cinematic masterpiece. It's faithful to the book, and the book is worth reading, if your standards for literature aren't ridiculously high (or low).

I saw Kristen Stewart on the Daily Show last night and she was just as vapid and vacant in real life as her characters are.

If it wasn't for Hugh Grant going on the Tonight Show after his 1995 arrest, millions of then-regular Letterman viewers might never have discovered that Jay Leno is out there every bloody night with fresh material and he's charming.
