Why do teams continue to employ Bobby April? The Steelers' special teams sucked when he was their coordinator. Now they get lots of great punt and kickoff returns.*

*that are all wiped out by holding penalties

I have been watching the NFL for two decades and I have never seen a game change so quickly as that game last night. The Eagles are truly dreadful....

2012-12-14 10:59:13 AM
I saw a lot of young players make stupid mistakes, but also make some great plays, especially on defense.

2012-12-14 11:00:55 AM
This isn't as failtacular as they're trying to make it sound. I only saw it once, but trying to stop a surprise bullrush and the punter doesnt adjust his placement is not the fault of the blocker IMO.

McNutt is such a bust.

2012-12-14 11:06:01 AM
How is having a punt kicked into their own player (not blocked by their own player) more of "a perfect metaphor for a lost season" than giving up 24 unanswered points in just over 3 minutes? Motherfarking, USA Today.

SkylineRecords: McNutt is such a bust.

He's a 6th round pick.. not really a bust.

There are pleanty of other players on the Eagles who are legit busts.. not need to water down the word.

TFA: Disappointingly, the punt counts as a block and not a real attempt. I was unnaturally excited to see a "M. McBriar punt for -7 yards" in the NFL.com play-by-play

Saw it in a college game once, many years ago. Punter was injured, back-up QB punted into a strong gust of wind and it landed behind him.

BTW, 2 games left

Can't wait until big Red is gone!

Can't wait until Vick is released!

It's a festivus miracle!

I liked that their own player blocked the punt and roughed the kicker.

I was at that game, and I still don't know what the hell happened.
One minute, they're up 13-10, and the defense is giving Dalton a hard time breathing. Next, they're down three scores, and the Jets fans are feeling better about themselves.

How about just "the butt"? I say a team in playoff contention signs a sentient, free-floating human ass as a goalline/short yardage back.

Thank you, Bengals defense, for likely winning my fantasy playoff this weekend for me.

The best part of the game for me is that Norv can't accidentally fall into the playoffs and save his job.

Butt-Interception. QB underthrows receiver, the ball bounces off his butt and into the waiting hands of the cornerback for a Pick-6.

make that three. I picked up cincy and detriot (stock defense is denver, but I don't trust them against Baltimore). Did research for about an hour and chose Cincy. It appears I chose wisely (was doubting my choice when it was 13-10). Funny part was I picked cincy due to the number of sacks they had for the seasons vs. the number philly has allowed, and all the other defense categories were the ones that paid off. My opponent had bryce brown and ben-jarvis green, felt sorry for him (no I didn't, this is playoffs dammit)

/Now watch Detroit put up 40+ fantasy points like seattle did last week.

For the third time in four weeks, my defense this week will be the team playing Arizona. So far I am 2 for 2 with this strategy, getting good days from the Rams and Seahawks.

Butt-Interception. QB underthrows receiver, the ball bounces off his butt and into the waiting hands of the cornerback for a Pick-6.

Didn't that already happen this year? It was a quick throw to a receiver on the right side, and a blocking TE got pushed back into the path of the pass. I want to say Redskins, since I remember there being yellow pants...

Aha! Steelers-Chargers game. Here's a choppy *.gif.

Ok, so it wasn't a straight deflection, and wasn't anywhere near as glorious as the play you described, and it should've been ruled a incomplete pass (I'm honestly not sure how it wasn't, since it was a turnover AND a score...), but I think it's worth watching.

Eli had one too. The fabled "buttpick". Although it was a defender butt.

Too big to post in-line but here's a gif

A typical Thursday suckfest but the Eagles took sucking a few steps further than the Bengals could.
I was originally enthusiastic about the idea of Thursday football but the reality has been disappointing.

A few teams have been able to look like professionals on a short week but for every Patriot level performance there has been a huge pile of butt fumbling folly.

I wanted to do this, but someone in my league beat me to it.

It all comes down to: can I survive with the Bears D this week to make it to the Shiva Bowl to get them against the Cardinals O.

I swap out defenses every week. 99% of my waiver picks are defenses. For the last month I have been using the "Defense that plays the Eagles/Jets" strategy, and my three teams are a combined 11-1 as a result, with two of the three in the championship bracket.

you play 5 QBs/week? How many people are in this league?

I tried the "defense that plays the Jets" strategy...the one week they played the Rams and actually were competent. Goddammit.

Couldn't possibly be more than 6.

That's still 6 too many people playing an absurd game.

I dunno, I'm semi-intrigued by it. I mean, it's a lot of blind luck anyway, so it really should just even out the points on aggregate, as some guys will have good weeks and some will have bad.

But man would it look amazing when all the good weeks happen to one guy's team and his opponent has a terrible week.

I think if you really wanted to test yourself you'd be in a 16 or 32-team league, rather than trying to assemble a ludicrous roster.

There were 6 slots, only four people joined. i just joined it because it sounded interesting and was drafting soon. I ended up with Brees, Eli, Romo, Flacco and Vick. Then I replaced Vick with Russell Wilson. It's a points only league and I'm winning by a few hundred points. Plus it helps I have AP, and I had Gronkowski most of the year. I would be losing big but the guy who started the league hasn't adjusted his roster since week 1. He's got RG3, Luck and Rivers riding the pine all year.

That's even less of a test and more based on blind luck or whoever happens to get to the right spot in the waiver wire (or to the FA pool the fastest). The more you dilute the talent, the more the one lucky day is going to affect everything. In a deep league, getting lucky with, say, the Seahawks D doesn't guarantee a victory the same way it would in a shallow league.
