When I was in school some of the dealers thought it would be funny as hell to dose teachers. But no, why look for an obvious culprit when you can just fire the guy.

"Teachers serve as role models to children, and they are responsible for the children's care and custody," read the school board's position. "As such, there is well settled case law that holds teachers to a high standard of conduct in and out of the classroom."

This is an unfair but sadly true rule. One of the reasons why I don't use my real name anywhere on the internet except for LinkedIn is my paranoia from when I taught HS. I may go back to teaching someday and I don't want some stupid drunk-post or picture of an idiotic stunt from a drunken camping trip costing me my job one day.

If we were meant to be naked, we'd have been born that way!

Put some clothes on, pervert!

I like the idea of someone being so turned on, and needing to have a release that they say "F**k it! I'm running there naked. Gang way! Gotta FAP!"

The transcript of the teacher's statement at the arbitration:

"Mr. Gifford and representatives of the Board: Thank you for this opportunity to present my case. I will not try to claim that my actions were acceptable. They were not. I do not seek to avoid the consequences of my actions. I only ask those present to consider that SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!!!"

"At first he denied being in Greenway, but later admitted to being there and running naked through the parking lot in the nude," read Sheehan's investigation report..."

I was trying to make a pun about how usually one would streak away, not toward, but, umm. Eh.

Streaking... big deal. I mean, was he diddling any of the children? Meh - now everyone thinks that could be a possibility.

Farking puritanical country we live in, lemme tell ya.

I don't think a teacher should be fired for that, but it is pretty farking dumb.

What's unfair about it?

"Acting in an improper manner" sounds unconstitutionally vague.

Because we're on our own time, not the school's. Obviously, if you're running naked through the streets and caught, especially if it hits the news, you're getting fired regardless of your profession. But there are so many things teachers have to be careful about. One complaint by a parent and you're done. When I taught in Baton Rouge in the early 90s, a teacher was seen leaving a gay bar with another guy. He was fired within a month.

If what you're doing on your own time doesn't interfere with your job, it shouldn't matter. Teachers shouldn't be held to somebody else's idea of a moral code just because of some "think of the children" mentality.

I thought tenured teachers couldn't get fired. At least, that's what I keep hearing.
