Muslims sure get their feelings hurt easily.

Unpossible, I have been assured repeatedly on the Internet that Muslims only care about their own apostates and that religious minorities are accorded the highest respect at all times.

the_chief: Muslims sure get their feelings hurt easily.

What I love is people defend this yet think religion is all the same oppressive group and biatch about Christianity for daring to want their own little section for themselves.

Religious fundamentalists don't like being criticized. The hell you say!

Oh goodie! A thread in which we can have another atheist battle royal and do some good down home Islam bashing. The stars are aligned! Must be a Mayan thing.

I don't recall Supreme Butthurtiness being one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

As a matter of fact, I vaguely remember learning about a formerly oppressed religion that welcomed others and encouraged widening one's mind. You know... led to a golden age... development of algebra... yada yada.

Buuuuuuut I guess that part of the world would rather become another ultra-conservative douchenozzle of a government/country. You know, kinda like my neighbors want to do here in 'Sippi.

It wouldn't make very much sense to bash atheists in a thread for a story about religious idiocy now would it?

"Expect to see many more blasphemy prosecutions in the future now that it's embedded as a crime in the constitution," Heba Morayef, a researcher with Human Rights Watch, told the New York Times.

Did I miss something? Election is supposed to be the 15th, today is the 14th. Have they voted on the proposed Mustlim Brotherhood draft constitution already, and did it win?

And if there was no religion, all these people could quit wasting loads of time freaking out about their god or lack of it, and spend more time fapping to Mia Kirshner.

Eh, we've seen societies that get rid of the religion thing... and... it ain't pretty.

It's like anything else, just be moderate about it and you'll be fine.

Yeah 'cause they totally want to throw people in jail for criticizing Christianity. Not to mention the occasional beheading of non-believers in Mississippi.....

A charge that was completely due to insulting a mythic figure and not, say, pissing off the local government. Because blasphemy charges are totally never used for that.

FTA:
Mr Saber was initially accused of circulating links to a 14-minute trailer for the film, Innocence of Muslims, which denigrates the Prophet Muhammad.

But he denied promoting the video and later faced charges relating to other statements critical of Islam and Christianity which police investigators allegedly found online and on his computer at his home.

The same thing that happened to Christianity before its adherents learned how to read and interpret their own religious texts.

Ah, a rock and a hard place. Difficult to defend the anti-blaspemy contingent in Egypt using examples of America's own long struggle with similar laws without unintentionally making it appear that America was actually founded as a Christian nation.

I really believe there are people in the US who want this to become an officially Christian government and they would love to imprison those that blasphemed Jesus or said Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.

What's weird is that in the last 20ish years, Jews are apparently cool again with that crowd. I don't know what sort of revelation there was to the Right Rev. Baptistpants, but all of a sudden, it was a JUDEO-Christian tradition that founded this country (rather than it having been "most of the Christians were too busy ostracizing, robbing, killing and generally farking with the 'Judeos' for that to have been the case").

// and yes, the Founders are on record being cool with Jews - at least in a "they're people too, goddamnit!" way
// Muslims, too
// and, IIRC, Buddhists?

Yeah, because the 9th century Abbasids were lovely, genial people. The folks in Sicily just asked them to come on in and have a deep dish pizza, they were so impressed with those quadratic equations.

Face it, they were just the same as other religious empires. They did some cool stuff, and a lot of horrible stuff. Golden age for one group means dark age for another.

Belief not required, we have examples.

Polk Under Prayer
Link

Multiple counts of jailing Atheists on trumped up charges.

When they "blessed" a roadway, Polk Under Prayer included, in a prayer, that nonbelievers be jailed or removed from the county(paraphrased).
i41.tinypic.com

Some Christians really do want that power, have actively prayed for it.
