Jon H: Does this mean we are done with this?

Are the people whose incompetence led directly to the death of an ambassador and three other Americans still in office?

Further, are the people who lied about and tried to cover up what led up to the death of an ambassador and the three other Americans still in office?

As the answer to both of those questions is "Yes" the answer to your question is "No"

Should criminal charges be brought against people within this administration over what happened?

The answer to that question is also yes.

Brian Ryanberger: Gyrfalcon: This idea that "It was a lie!" is especially rich coming from people who still insist that George W. Bush's espousing of WMDs in Iraq as an excuse for going to war didn't really count or whatever the current narrative is.

Yeah except nobody knew there were not WMDs there until we got there and you can't blame Bush for that mistake when the UN thought so too and even the New York Times was lying to Bush about it.

There were quite a few that knew that there were no WMDs in Iraq, but those people were pretty much dismissed.

You are comparing apples to potatoes

Yep. The Republicans who directly denied security for the embassy are still in office. I think we should bring criminal charges against them. Good idea, bro.

Click the link upon which is the TotalFark and then the TotalFark Discussion and do the introduction of the self of you. Also Susan Rice should not be the escaped goat of John Boehner.

Thank you sir I did as you said to and introduced myself by submitting a totalfark discussion link but it is still in the queue and probably will be for quite some time to come because it is very late even where I am right now.

I hope I did not make anybody mad at me by speaking my heart and soul and trying to tell you all that we must come together but to come together we first need to forgive and that means Obama needs to get on his knees and beg America to forgive him for this lie where Americans got killed so we can all just get over it and move on. He just needs to see that America will forgive him if he lets them and if he keeps up with the lie there will be no forgiveness and nobody will vote for him ever again or any of his Chicago crowd.

I love you all America.

It's not going to be changing anytime soon until we get to the bottom of the truth and Obama lets America give him the forgiveness he so richly deserves to get from us because he is the President. I am trying to show how we can overcome all of this Obama mess and get this country back on its tracks and rolling straight again but you just want to make fun of me and ignore the issues which is lying and playing racial brinkmanship with the oval office. Someday your grandkids will be sitting down on your knees and you will be telling them about how America used to be and they will ask you what you did to stop the spread of Marxism and your only answer will be that you pretended not to see what was right in front of you until it was too late but by then it really was too late.

The question here is really gotten foggy, who lied to who and when? So much spin on both sides of this I'm really unable to find a factual basis to build on. At this point I'm inclined to believe that the truth is probably some political bullshiat of a kind that neither party is suggesting.

Who made the decision to change the talking points for Susan Rice? Assuming she really is innocent of purposefully lying to America who made the decision for her. Bring that person forward for a press conference, admit that they changed it and explain why. This shows her innocence and explains to the American people why they had to omit the facts and use the video as a cover, an explanation other than "it was right before the election and it would have looked bad."

I'm a crazy liberal and I generally vote D but this really looks like Obama used Susan Rice as a tool to deflate the political consequences of the attack and then let her go when McCain and Company went super crazy media-frenzy about it. It's certainly possible some repubs believe that if the public had known what had really happened it could have swung the vote their way. In retrospect It wouldn't have changed my decision, at least as I understand it now, which is a definite BARELY.

The political consequences didn't need deflating. And how would insinuating that a random mob, rather than organized, well-armed terrorists, killed our ambassador be GOOD, politically?

The CIA gave her edited information (which she ADMITTED was incomplete and possibly false), partially to hide the existence of the CIA facility (which is kinda the CIA's thing), and partially because the investigation was ongoing. This isn't an unusual thing for the CIA to do.

You're looking at it all wrong. On one side you have the Republicans acting like Republicans about Benghazi, which would have been a rallying cry for American unity and an example of how the mooslims hate our freedoms, blah blah blah, if the President was one of theirs. That issue is separate from what Obama's purpose for Susan Rice was--to serve as a decoy to make the GOP derp out so they would have to relent when John Kerry gets picked for SoS.

LordJiro: This isn't an unusual thing for the CIA to do.

In fact, I find it unusual that anybody is even concerning themselves with disclosure on this. I remember when the CIA might as well have been Ancient Aliens, their unseen hand leaving nary a trace aside from the conjecture of the public. Now the rabble gets out of control at the slightest hint of OpSec disinformation. What's the point of having international and domestic espionage if the torch-and-pitchfork crowd can't handle anything that doesn't act like reality television?

Oh, I don't doubt Obama knows what he's doing. My concern is the GOP just got a slight encouragement to stay the course. Probably the worst possible thing. I don't want the helmsman on the bridge who refuses to turn while the national Titanic is headed straight for the fiscal iceburg. I'm sorry, when did I ever say that Powell lied?

Please, answer the question. Can you prove Susan Rice lied or not?

Did she tell the truth?

Yes. She said that according to the CIA intelligence estimate of the time, it was because of protests over the video.

Now, can you prove she was wrong about that? Of course you can't, because the CIA corroborates the claim.

Sorry. You guys don't get double standards. If Powell lied because of what he was told, then Susan Rice is also a liar by the same standard. You guys rode that shiat for years, now you want to cry about changing the rules again. We are going by your rules. Zeppelininthesky: Explain this to me: You say that Rice "lied" about what actually happened. We all know she read exactly what the CIA told her to read. I am confused as to the exact issue here. What is the difference between "it was a terrorist attack" and "It was a protest"? 4 people died regardless. If the issue is that she lied, what difference would it actually make?

4 dead Americans, the Oval Office here I come!

This was the lowest point of the election. A candidate who couldn't wait to get in front of the cameras to gloat over the death of Americans just to get a political leg up. All the other stuff is typical political BS and to be expected - lie about jeep moving jobs to china, lie about stealing money from medicare when your own plan would implement the exact same savings measures, lie that the 21st century American military is weaker than it was in 1916... but turning the deaths of your fellow citizens into a smirky punchline was beyond repugnant. And that inhuman pile of dog excrement came sorta-close to taking the White House.

This incident was doomed to be nothing more than political fodder from Day One.

It is not a "claim" it is a fact.

/by the way, you might want to brush up on your grammar. No matter how many times you repeat "and the thread before this" it is referring to one thread. You wanted to repeat "and the thread before that one." The more you know!

You see, people out here in reality refer to what you call a "fact" as a [air quotes]fact[/air quotes].

The fact[reality] was that no one knew what it was when it was happening, least of all Amb. Rice when she was given the brief and pushed in front of the cameras. Would love to see your proof to the contrary.

This is one of those delicious Republican Catch-22's where since they can't pounce on "the Administration took too long to make a statement!" they try to use "the administration made a wrong statement!"

And would you GOP camp followers PLEASE PLEASE stop pretending you cared about the victims or embassy security? Romney's smirk after his press conference should summarize that matter.

True believers, a pack of freaking Zealots.

But remember folks, I'm the bad guy!

Again I would like to offer you the opportunity to explain what harm came from Rice's statement.

It made the victims' families feel bad. Or insulted their memory. Because if they died because of a terrorist attack, they're great martyrs, heroes and patriots, but if they died as an attack which grew out of a protest, they're simply pathetic victims of Obama's neglect and incompetence.

Seriously, some neocons have actually made that argument on fark.

Articles published in the press on 9/13 saying there was no protest? Statements from Libyans? The fact that the people who were at the Embassy were interviewed no later than 9/14 in Germany?

I couldn't care less about the Benghazi scandal, as she had nothing to do with it. The reason I wanted her withdrawn was that she has huge investments in the companies involved in the Keystone XL pipeline, and she would ultimately be responsible for deciding whether or not the deal goes through.

For that alone she should not be considered. Massive conflict of interest, so I'm surprised the Republicans didn't want her in there.

What noted American Communist had the following Economic Rights (among others) inscribed on a massive Granite Monument, erected on the grounds of the Freedom Foundation, within the Valley Forge memorial grounds?

Right to bargain with our employers.

Right to go into business, compete, make a profit.

Right to bargain for goods and services in a free market.

Right to contract about our affairs.

Care to guess?

That infamous enemy of the Nation, Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Cletus C.: But don't fart in my face and blame the dog, please.

Where were you for the entire Iraq war lead-in? I don't really have to start listing the many, many lies, do I?
