That takes quite some planning. This isn't a sur of the moment thing.

Yes, real thought went into each of those displays, the statement about the job in particular. Those are a biatch to line up.

I hate to be 'that guy', but yep, it's most likely fake. I've done dispay and scenic work and you are always under staffed, under equiped and behind schedule. This is awesome, but it took time that you never have on these jobs.
Totally made me laugh in sympathy, though. I'll never do scenic work again.

Councillor Jason Kitcat, leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, said: "The video is a creative spoof, but it is making people smile and getting thousands of people talking about Brighton & Hove in the run-up to Christmas. That has got to be good news for the city and good news for its traders.

"The lights are paid for and put up by local traders through the Business Improvement District 'Brilliant Brighton', not the council. I'm sure they will be delighted at the extra publicity at their busiest time of the year."

Snerk. I figured correctly it was probably Brighton, England not Brighton, Michigan.

/Fun fact for young Michiganders: before they built the M-14 connector, had to take I-96 to US-23 through Brighton to get to Ann Arbor from Detroit suburbs.

About ten years ago I used to hang xmass lights in the north Chicago area. Something like this, though far more 3D and about 20 feet tall, came about pretty much by accident on the main walk of an outdoor mall.

the boss - "Ok, client want white lights up the trunks, a red ball where the branches break out, and then green out on the branches. Do the bushes in white."

Well, with the green turned off, and only 1 tree and 2 bushes lit up, plus one strand of extra white lights thrown off the top for a money shot.....

It was magnificant.

We tried wiring it all to separate outlets so we could've activated it at will, but it's damned cold in a lift in Chicago in mid December.... least it used to be.

Boss came walking by, we pointed up and said something like "Is this what you wanted?", best spit take I think I've ever seen in person.

He laughed it off, basically said what the hell was the client thinking, and asked us to turn the rest of the lights on.
