My take on this has always been this, whats the point of living longer if you're bedridden in some nursing home for the last 15 years of your life.

Kind of reminds me of some of these medications you see advertised on TV, most of them, the side effects sound ten times worse than what they're supposed to be helping. You may very well have helped your high blood pressure, but now you have blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, nausea, leg cramps, night sweats, constipation and your dick stopped working.

January 2012: Told I was going to die. "It was a tumor"
December 2012: In so much pain and drugged up 24/7. They should have let me go the other two times.
So, yeah, living longer isn't necessarily a good thing.

High 5! I've given up grains, vegetable oils, sugar and processed foods. I eat high fat/low carb and I have never felt or looked better. I'm never hungry, sleep great, feel damn good. I refuse to be taken down by old age and disease.

My diet/lifestyle plus a living will assure that I will go out at the top of my game.

My grandmother made it to 101, and more than once told us how she hated having to constantly make new friends, because everybody she knew well kept dying. She fell and broke her hips more than 5 times over the last 25 years of her life, and she kept being put through rehab. I'm thinking about getting a DNR tattoo on my chest.

Until recently, parents had the decency to die in their 60s, leaving their wealth to their children and extended families - now we're eating our seed corn. What will we do when demographically 50% of the people don't work?

That's my perspective. Live fully and live well, but don't simply live to get to the oldest age you can because that isn't necessarily the best quality of life. Who really wants to eat dull tasting food for years without drugs, alcohol, sugar or adventures taken simply to die an old crusty person hopped up on pain medication while everyone you cared about is dead. No thanks.

Pay attention young-uns. "People are living longer now" is the excuse that the older generations are using for raising your social security and medicare age to preposterous numbers while retiring themselves at 65. Never mind that you'll be sick or invalid for those extra years. Or at best, un-hireable.

Not that they shouldn't raise it - it's headed for broke, after all. But the baby boomers should have to work until they're 70, too since they're the ones that couldn't be bothered to fund it during their working years.

Secure retirement and medicare! Free universities for us all! And we don't even have to pay for it... that's what our kids are for!

No, the real shocker is that all these diseases we're getting now? Yeah, we didn't used to get them because we didn't live long enough TO get them. People didn't used to die of cancer and heart disease, because those take a while to develop and when the life expectancy was about 50, nobody lived long enough to develop fatal colon cancer or terminal heart disease. Now that humans live into their 70's, amazingly, we can develop fatal tumors in our ass.

The other thing is that we've eliminated the killers that used to mask chronic diseases. In the Olden Days--and in 3d world countries today--people died of pneumonia and dysentery, which are quite astonishingly symptoms of...heart disease and cancer. Imagine that. If your heart doesn't work, your lungs fill up with fluid and you die. If your internal organs are riddled with tumors, your bowels are often the first place it shows up, and you die. Well, nowadays, we can treat pneumonia and diarrhea, so people live long enough for the other, chronic disease to kill them.

So it's not that we're more disease-ridden than before, just that by living longer and NOT dying of the curable diseases that used to kill us, we have to die of things that take a while to develop and aren't curable. Which is a good thing, because if nobody ever died, where would we all live?

It almost sems to me that this will become inevitable as the result of how hard we work ourselves. Once you hit adulthood, you get a job and work, work, work until either you are disabled or your retire at 65 or so. In the decades between you don't really do much to enjoy life or at least be satisfied with how you lived it, so you want to hang around for as long as you can.

Assuming heart disease theory is right regarding cholesterol, my family history and own medical conditions say I'm probably going to have a heart attack in my 40's. I'm 25 now, so you better believe the rat race isn't for me.

If I end up with cancer that can't be treated or cured I'll wait till it gets to the point I get a prescription for pain meds, say percoset ,vicodin or oxycontin. Then I'll take the whole damm bottle and wash them down with ethanol. Then I'll just go to sleep and it will be over. I guess the only downside to this is that while the pain and suffering will be over, I won't be around to enjoy it.

Emergency responders and doctors often ignore those, just in case you changed your mind since you got the tattoo. They're permanent you know. A Living Will is adviseable.

3-word plot: Everyone stops dying.

Think about it. EVERYONE STOPS DYING.

That includes:
- incinerated burn victims
- abortions and still births
- massive bodily injuries

/horror in my sci-fi? More likely than you think.
