you're joking, right? i mean, i was born here, i live here, and until last month i was planning on spending the rest of my life here.

but we have the highest tax burden in the nation by far. the highest personal income tax. the highest gas tax. the highest state sales tax. the highest business tax on the west coast. the districts are gerrymandered to hell, despite the recent sham "redistricting" (which was actually packed with democratic activists). tens of billions of dollars of unfunded pension liability. a bulletproof democratic majority in state government so they can raise taxes at will (which they are already threatening to do less than one month out from the election) without a single republican vote, as well as override any governor veto. we are one of eleven states locked in what is referred to as a fiscal death spiral. we just topped the list of the worst run states in the nation for the second year in a row. we have 12% of the national population, but 33% of the national welfare recipients. and i could go on and on, but i'd like to accomplish something today.

in short, there is absolutely nothing positive going on in cali right now.

Says the no nothing that does not comprehend the root of the problem. The ballot initiative process. You want to solve the issues in CA? the first step is is a constitutional convention to clear all the crap in there with spending mandates and then make ballot initiative/propositions illegal. Any thing else is futile.

the only thing you need to do to effect serious change in california is redraw the districts so they are truly competitive. both parties are complicit in the gerrymandering efforts, though the dems moreso after the last redistricting shenanigans. but right now that won't happen because the legislature is owned by the public employee unions, primarily the cta.

// "the magic of compound interest"

// Cali is soooooo farked

We are what is called a "donor state", while those lesser states are called "welfare states". We pay out more every year than we receive back in federal benefits, such as federal transportation benefits those others seem to love so much. So again, the lesser states can suck it. They been sucking at our teats so long, they should be quite skilled at their massive suckage by now.

Ya think that might be at least part of the monetary issues? No? Try paying out massive amounts of your income and trying to meet your bills. Doesn't work too well.

/lesser states go down with us, because they rely on us too much

Many of us have been saying that for years.

Dude, I actually went to live in Norway for many months (16, to be exact, and I don't even speak the language), with family members, and their tax rates are incredibly high, yet they are one of the wealthiest nations on earth. Just finished 7 weeks of radiation treatment at MD Anderson for prostate cancer. Had surgery last year and it failed. All men over 40 need to know their PSA and testosterone levels, and have them checked yearly. If you have frequent prostate infections, take heed it could be early cancer.

I'm 54 yrs old, my cancer probably started in my late 40's. Doctors in Austin were worthless, I got frustrated and stopped going. Don't make the same mistake I did, find a doctor who listens.

because the state doesn't spend money on shiat that actually matters. we don't fix the roads. we don't fix the schools. we spend all the money on bullet trains to nowhere, public worker pensions, and interest on debt.

do yourself a favor. go look at the increase in the state budget over the last four years. go ahead, i won't spoil it for you. then ask yourself: are the roads xx% better? do we have xx% more police and firemen? is our graduation rate xx% better?

this state is absolutely drowning in debt and pension obligations, and the money we just "raised" from prop 30 doesn't even come close to addressing the problem. financially, this state is farked. i would say cali will be the next greece, but that might be offensive to the greeks.

Sure, when we exploit the oil and natgas off the shores of California like Norway does their's then we too can be rich again.

You do know that Norway is a petro-state, right?

And it has a tiny, homogenous population relative to its oil wealth?

Might as well be Kuwait.

Nah. Who would want to leave? Person should just go up to a grocery store with no money and try and get a whole basket of groceries. Same concept with taxes and the government, yet a shockingly large number of people don't seem to just "get it". You have to get your money from somewhere, and if you're the government, that's through taxes. Duh.

Cali is the perfect state. We'll raise taxes, biatch about it, then suck it up and pay up. Tax evaders are viewed very poorly, and "no taxes, but I want shiat" people are viewed even more poorly. Lots of us dashed out to the Loma Prieta (san fran, for those that do not know, tho I think most of us Cali folk do) quake and Northridge (SoCal, again, for those who may not know) when they hit (I did) and helped clear the rubble, and we're supposed to be the crazy ones? I do not think so. Red Cross was there, FEMA was there, but it couldn't work without all of us volunteers as well, working in unison, while quietly mourning our loss. We're more of the "we all must pull together" types, when it really counts. This is one of those times when we all have to pull together, through a raise in taxes. See how easy that Cali mindset is? We need to start deporting the whiny biatches type people to Arkansas or something.

spoken like someone who doesn't even vote, let alone take the time to read the ballot measures and understand what they're doing. i'll give you the bullet train; that was colossal stupidity on the part of california voters, but to be fair they got sold a bill of goods (and were even specifically told that it would pay for itself, which it will never come close to doing).

but the vast majority of initiatives are poppycock feel good stuff. look at this year's measures: three strikes "reform", ending the death penalty, tax hikes, genetically engineered food, human trafficking law.

where are your precious "service with no way to pay for it" items? because i'm not seeing them. oh, that's right, you're full of crap and have no understanding of the state's fiscal problems. but keep on farking that "broken initiative process" chicken.
