All the MBAs I know got it to help them climb the corporate ladder, and every single one of them is doing the exact same job. MBAs are just a near meaningless ticket that only needs to be punched if you want to climb the ladder. They don't really train people to do management. Traits I've seen move people up? Narcissism, amorality, and a Machiavellian mind. Taking all the credit while shedding all the blame? VP! Doing a cost analysis that proves the management board strategy is bad? No soup for you! But in my company, where the board and Sr VP level used to be full of some of the most brilliant minds on the planet, they are now full of these small mind bureaucracy monsters that realistically have little idea about what we sell and why people buy it, but play the game and ended up on top.

Having Ethics will cancel out the MBA.

And if you hear somebody say "let me put on my MBA hat for moment" what they mean is "I'm going to rationalize a stupid decision"

Well put, and very sad.

It depends what area you specialize in. Almost all of asset managers and buy-side analysts I've known have been strenuously ethical.

Well, you covered every single incorrect stereotype quite nicely. At this point I have doubts whether you even know what an MBA is, much less know somebody who has one.

You should also talk about how every single blogger ever lives in their parents basement, too. Or that all Jews are cheap and all blacks are criminals. Don't put away your broad generalizing paintbrush just quite yet!

Why Would I Read the Article:

Sorry I offended your MBA sensitivities. I know 6 people with MBAs,and I'm very familiar with the course work. In fact I'm leaving to have lunch with one of my closest buddies who has a MBA . (in 26 minutes of course!;)) A lot of people see the MBA as some badge of honor that makes them better people. Those that don't in my experience are the ones that are moral, those that are ring knockers, those are the bad ones.
My MBA having friends that are moral, when we get something stupid from above, whenever they try to explain it, out comes the phrase "Let me put my MBA hat on". I don't hear it used with any other degree.
Yes there are good people with MBAs. The ethical people with MBAs I see don't end up in the command chain, they end up in individual contributor jobs and do them well. There is a ton of people that think a MBA makes them a leader of people and organizations, or worse yet, that you can't be a leader without one.
It just wrong, it doesn't work that way.

Allow me to put my MBA hat on and explain to you what MBA's do:

Synergize coherent conglomeration

Nail Heather from marketing

Create upgradable responsive models

Oversee grass-roots transitional framework

Bang Jill in accounting

Generate multi-tiered analyzing archives

Move the needle

Integrate action items at the organic level

Sleep with Karen in the mail room

Develop front-line tangible installation

Why Would I Read the Article: .

Our MBA has recently decided that having a heater on in the stores where we work is a little to expensive after we close so they shut it down and we have to finish quickly because the cold air comes in through the breathers.

I got pneumonia.

No offensive but if all the MBA's died I wouldn't shed any real tears. They are wastes of human flesh masquerading as people who can do have real emotions.

I watched a documentary on Harvard Business School about how a classmate of theirs got cancer and suddenly they all came together to come up with a cure for it; they came up with 4 treatments. While I am happy that happened, most of the cures for a lot of diseases are held up by the same people trying to protect their property rights with patents on genes and they only did the right thing when it was one of their own.

...you realize stereotypes exist for a reason right?
They aren't just arbitrary things made up for no reason.

But please go ahead, ignore history and facts and call me something like a sexist or racist or bigot or something.

As I said in the thread about the Stanford MBA program, I went to school because I was bored at work, I like learning about business, and the timing worked. The only things I learned were that my company follows few effective management/leadership strategies and an MBA on your resume does not increase the likelihood you will get a call back for a job that you meet the qualifications for, but your title does not match.

//Of course I went to a local, unranked school so YMMV.

Um, no. How in the hell do you make the idiotic leap of moronic logic that equates what those minorities went through with getting an MBA, which is a choice?

"My brothers and sisters, I have a dream that one we will not be judged by what we have done to companies or people but what our intention is!"

You know nothing, get with the program.

It has nothing to do with luck of the vagina draw and everything to do with luck of the rookery.

See, most Harvard MBA's are lizard people that hatched out of eggs.
