More hard-hitting questions from our retarded corporate media.

FirstNationalBastard: Now, imagine William Howard Taft and Chris Christie showering together, soaping each other up, scrubbing the folds with their rags on sticks, Taft learning just where his walrus mustache will tickle Christie in the right way...

Diogenes: GAT_00: Its a problem, but not in the way people are properly thinking about it. Do we really need a President where we worry about that high of a chance of a heart attack? That high stress plus weight is all but guaranteed.

Precisely. His weight doesn't disqualify him in terms of the duties. But it may very well disqualify him in terms of the life.

Bullshiat. Weight is like age, it introduces large amounts of risk, but we nominate and sometimes elect risky candidates. McCain could have just plain died of old age at any minute, for example.

No, Christie's weight problem is an image problem. This is the age of TV and the internet, and people leaning towards the candidate who looks more attractive has been true since the Kennedy/Nixon debate.

Now, this doesn't mean Christie doesn't have a chance. He just needs to lose weight. I had an assistant dean in high school that was easily as big as Christie, and he lost so much weight he was downright skinning in just a few years (though he later gained it all back). So this is definitely doable. In fact, if you see Christie slimming down significantly, I'd take it as proof that he intends to run.

Don't worry about it, if the tragic happens the VP will take over. Maybe a half-term governor from a large and sparsely populated state that rhymes with Asalka...

"I'm better than Taft" is not a good thing for anyone who knows anything at all about Taft.

So...it will work out great for Christie.

Is Christie incapable of doing the job? No, but he would never be seriously considered as long as he is that heavy. His opponents will used words like 'Big Government' and there is an actual (yet unfortunate) stigma of being heavy. Can you imagine Christie running against someone lean and thin? People would automatically think the thin lean person is more capable due to stereotypes that exist (again - unfortunate but true).

IMO, here is how Christie COULD win and be taken seriously.

He needs to just start working out! Can you imagine if Christie suddenly began dieting / working out and dropped 100lbs plus? It would be in the news and he could then say things such as "Getting ready for a fight!" or "I'm planning to turn the US around like I'm turning myself around!"

He could do it!

Dude, I'm recruiting roommates for my eventual penthouse condo in hell, trying to get in on that? Because, after the number of poor people who will never get that image out of their heads, you've earned a first class ticket.

Temper and weight. The guy is too far out of the norm to be elected president. People might like him but they're not going to vote for him.

I doubt the GOP will let him have it since the Tea party/Fox News crowd who really control the Republicans hates him

I saw that at last night's 12/12/12 concert Christie was at the end of his row in an aisle seat. I feel sorry for everyone who had to take the long way out.

I'm in the process of reading his biography. You are correct - he did get up to some dirty tricks such as vote tampering. As did all of his opponents. Not that that makes it any better.

But he also did serve as a congressman, a senator and as the President. Am I misunderstanding what is meant by all three branches of government?

pivazena: He confuses me because to just look at his face, he doesn't look that ridiculously huge. Fat sure, but not "holy fark."

Then I see a picture like this

He's not fat ENOUGH to properly represent the modern Teabagger.

I like the guy, but I will admit that his VP choice will matter more than some others because I'm concerned about his weight and age meaning that he's a higher risk for having health issues when combined with the stress of the Presidency. He's one of the few Republicans I respect, but I do hope, for his sake, that he gets healthier.

Waddle breathlessly for office? Okay, I could buy that.

I would vote for Taft before Christie.

schubie: Taft was a big guy for sure but you wouldn't even glance in his cart if you saw him at a grocery store today. It reminds me of The Bob Newhart Show I saw the other day from 1974 which featured Bob's weightloss support group and they were all downright svelte. None nearly semi-Christiesized.

Remember this gem? They made fun of this kid the whole movie for being such a fatass. He's downright trim by today's standards, which makes me sad.
