The VP pick would be heavily scrutinized then. It would be McCain all over again with weight supplanting age. The question is whether Christie/the GOP will have learned enough from the Palin debacle to not let history repeat.

Just look at Obama - he was reasonably fit and youthful-looking when he got into office, and he's aged tremendously.

Christie needs to lose weight. It would do wonders for his image.

I don't like Christie, but I have enough respect for his intelligence to know that he didn't learn anything from Palin. You can't learn something you already know.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Christie is the only Republican I'm afraid of in 2016. The GOP would be very smart to nominate him.

I've been watching with great amusement the Republican party send up Presidential candidates that appeared to be designed to lose, if you assume that Republicans are "traditional white Christian family values" people.

OR, if you don't assume that, candidates that are designed to shout "It's not the 1950s anymore!"

Which, oddly, means putting up for the grand prize people that showcase the racial, religious, and gender equality that they themselves fought AGAINST in the 1950s.

Gov. Christie would actually be a relatively normal candidate that reflects the demographics of the most vocal part of the Republican base, being white and fat...right up to the point where he gladly accepted help if it was offered, says the GOP, which made him a RINO.

Only about 150 more pounds to go and he will be 2016.

And here we go. We all knew this was going to happen, the 'real' GOP candidates coming out at last. Christie is only the first and I really think he jumped the gun, not waiting until Jan 1st and the results of the fiscal cliff.

I'm thinking that the rest of them are still watching the fiscal cliff mess and waiting to see how it turns out and how the public reacts and whom they blame...

Taft was a big guy for sure but you wouldn't even glance in his cart if you saw him at a grocery store today. It reminds me of The Bob Newhart Show I saw the other day from 1974 which featured Bob's weightloss support group and they were all downright svelte. None nearly semi-Christiesized.

See, the liberal MSM media will harp on Christie's obesity just because he's a Republican. But did you ever hear anyone in the MSM wonder whether Obama was maybe too fit to be president?
